Camille was annoyed with herself that she carelessly stumbled across her older sister. Out of all the people, how unlucky she was to bump into one person she wanted to avoid. “I don’t... I don’t need you, I’m fine,” she mumbled. She wasn’t feeling steady on her feet, but she would sooner die than show it.

"Maybe that’s exactly what I’m hoping for,” Camille huffed. She didn’t want Marcus to be nice to her, not when they weren’t ‘family’ anymore and he surely didn’t like her just for her. “Besides, you should offer it to your sister or friend, they’d surely be ecstatic about it.”

“Would you like a candy cane?” Luke asked the other with a friendly smile on his face, holding out the collection he was handing out. “There’s the classic peppermint of course, but we’ve also got some Bertie Bott’s ones. And before you worry, I made sure to take out all the bad ones. The labels and colors match up perfectly– I promise you won’t get a snot flavored candy cane,” he informed proudly, haven taken time from this afternoon to make sure he wouldn’t be handing out disgusting-flavored candy to people.

"I promised myself I would wait until Christmas but since you’re offering so nicely, it would be rude to say no,” Camille reasoned, her hand already reaching for a candy cane. “It would only be rude if I only tried one, right? I must try them all and then decide which one is the best,” she nodded her head as she kept speaking.

Theseus snorted loudly when he noticed another group having an argument. The game was long finished and they seemed to think that their shouts were going to change something about the outcome. “I give them two minutes until they start pushing each other,” he murmured to Camille.

"And here I thought you suddenly cared about someone else than your own precious person,” Camille teased. Sure, drama was fun, but she also didn’t want to become a part of some big argument if that pair decided to involve others around them.

“Honestly I don’t know how it’s taken me this many years to do this costume.” Penelope tutted at herself, looking into her compact mirror as she reapplied her lipstick. “Barbie is a fashion icon after all, that and I tend to be a sucker for going blonde on Halloween- so, how do I look?” She asked once she had finished turning around with a flourish.

"Blond hair does look good on you, maybe stay like that for the rest of the year?” Camille suggested offhandedly. While pink was not her colour, she did have to admit the other looked rather nice in the whole outfit.

“I suppose Harley Quinn is a rather basic Halloween costume choice but it does look good,” Adeline replied with a shrug, “I went for the 2020 movie version. She was my favourite. What do you think?”

"Harley was a thing a few years ago so there shouldn’t be many people wearing a similar costume,” Camille commented. “I doubt I’ll have the same luck, although I was not going for originality anyway,” she added, shrugging.

It took her a moment to realise she was now back at the shop where she actually did work. “Dammit, sorry, it’s a habit. What was that book again?” She asked, taking the note from the other. “I think someone reserved our last copy, but it’s possible we have another one stashed somewhere.”

“Look, it’s not going to be long before those kids grow up and have a show of their own and like, what are they even going to call it?” Enzo ranted, tearing off another piece of muffin and popping it into his mouth as he thought. “Keeping up with Keeping up with the Kardashians? Keeping up with the Kardashians the Sequel? I don’t know, it’s giving High School Musical The Musical The Series for me and I’m not sure I’m here for it.” He commented with a wave of his hand.

"Don’t give them any ideas, I bet they’ve got ears everywhere, even in our world,” Camille warned. “Besides, let them come up with something terrible on their own, it’s only a matter of time until people will be done with them,” she added, shrugging.

The raven-haired woman was surprised, finally making a connection between the mix of scents in the air with what the blonde had said. “I would love it actually,” Lucy confessed with a soft laugh, always fond of the smell of the aged pages of books. “If I hadn’t become a healer I probably would’ve become a librarian or worked in a bookshop,” she admitted.

"You’re free to apply for the job, I’m sure Jonah would love to have around someone who doesn’t push the books around around with a stick,” Camille shrugged, only half joking. She was levitating them of course, but she definitely couldn’t say she was their fan. Sure, there were a few books that actually interested her but the rest? Nah, not her thing.

"Maybe charm your dress to show contact details of a person that could pick you up when you’re no longer standing?” Camille suggested. Back in the day whenever she was having a bit too much fun, she usually did it in the comfort of her own place. Or whenever she was with friends. “And you don’t have to explain yourself, just do whatever you feel like doing and have fun,” she added, shrugging.

“Oh uh– okay,” Lucy wasn’t quite sure how to respond to the woman’s approach, admittedly wishing she just knew where the books were and wasn’t just relying on her sense of smell. “Do you usually search for the books around here like that?”

"Around here? Yup. It’s probably the easiest way since I’m spraying them with something nice every other day. Try being around old books every day and you’ll quickly hate them with passion,” Camille explained, shrugging. The smell of old books was not something she was a fan of, so every little bit of perfume helped.
