Brave New World

You're so distracted by the blackness, and just how involved you were in that execution, that you only notice that your two captors have been freed when Monoki turns to look at you. She and Monohiro were quietly whispering to one another, and gives her a small, polite nod before hurrying out of the courtroom. Monoki watches him leave as she takes a deep breath. "... So. I don't know if I'm even allowed to apologize, given that what's happened here over the past few weeks is nothing I can ever apologize enough for. What I can offer is an explanation." Monoki pauses again, looking for the words. "... Well, not really. He already gave you one, I guess. He wasn't lying. You were all classmates. I can explain myself, to some extent." She bites her lower lip, not looking eager to explain. "SHSL Despair was looking into the creation of personalized humans. Blank slates that you could shape into whatever you wanted. It was mostly students of Hope's Peak Academy who served as these slates. It was killing two birds with one stone- extinguishing hope and catering to their own needs. That's how the despair spread so quickly. Brainwashed students made soldiers were everywhere, and I assume they still are." "Soldiers were the easiest to produce. There were also housekeepers, factory workers, and other types of brainwashed students who were harder to make. The early stages ended in crushing failure. It's easier to tell them to kill instead of teaching them civilized tasks." She laughs, although it's bitter, no humour to be found whatsoever. "It's gross, that I feel affection towards Kaede-kun. Nothing of the romantic sort, but that I'm indebted to him. I was a Hope's Peak student as well. I recall each one of you. I was your upperclassman, the grade above you. My class and I were supposed to help you all get accustomed to school life, but we usually just played games and pulled pranks with you." Monoki's face shows a hint of nostalgic sadness before snapping back to seriousness. "I ended up not taking the threat of despair seriously, not running off to the abandoned camp to hide like your class did, and they caught me. I ended up a failed slate, you see. Supposed to be housekeeper, but in the last stages of the process, I pretty much shut down. Couldn't control any movements I made, couldn't digest food or water- basically, I was dead already. So they threw me on the side of the road to let me die. That's when Kaede-kun came along. He found me, and nursed me back to decent health. He gave me a purpose. I was his megaphone, his game runner." "After I got hit with the flying arm- wow, that's a sentence I never thought I would say- it jostled some memories in my brain. Basically, it's why I'm not crying that you killed him, but that I'm explaining the madness to you." A faint smile drifts onto Monoki's face. "And why I'm about to help you leave." ----------- You all packed up. Everything that you had is piled into backpacks and suitcases. Monoki has given you enough water and food for quite some time, and you can hear some bottles sloshing around in your bag. Your whole group- with the obvious exception of those who didn't make it through the game- is standing in front of the city gates, tall, wrought-iron things. Monoki is standing next to them, holding a key. She turns to you. "Anyone who wants to stay here can. It's dangerous out there. Despair is still running wild, and you'll need a whole lot of luck to overcome that." One student had elected to stay with Monoki here, dedicated to helping her cope and to rebuild this place as a safe haven for refugees. Ai smiles at you from beside her. Monoki nods at the group. "I understand. Look, my family lives in Akihabara. I'm fairly sure it's still safe there. Tell them you're friends of Akari. Specific directions aren't something I have, but I'm pretty sure we're in Toyama right now. It's going to be quite the journey there. Are you up for it?" There's a collective nod around the group. Monoki smiles, a genuine one this time. "Great. Good luck, students of hope." She opens the gates with a huge shove, watching you as you leave. For almost a month now, suspicion and carnage have been your reality. But now you're leaving, free from this place, free to heal the world and to start a revolution of hope. You are the graduating class of We Made It. And although the world is still chaotic, full of despair and death and betrayal, you know that as you all hurry into the wreckage of the suburbs around the city, your victory here can change all that. You can be the ones who change it all again. And that tiny realization feels strangely hope-like. CONGRATULATIONS CDV2!

Suffer For Your Art

The lights come back on, and you're shocked to see that the setting around you has changed completely. You're still all in your little circle of podiums, but now the setting is a pretty little valley. A sparkling blue lake sits a bit to the east, and to the north, there are gorgeous, snow capped mountains. A dragonfly buzzes by in the soft breeze You can see cabins off in the distance. Could this be the camp where you hid away? You have no more time to entertain that thought, as you hear giggling. It's Kaede. To the west, only about twenty meters from you, he's sitting in front of an enormous easel. He's daintily seated on top of a large palette, right in the spot where the paintbrush would go. From seemingly nowhere, a huge Monobear stomps up, shaking the surroundings as he stops in front of the easel. Picking up Kaede like a paintbrush, he dips the boy into the palette. Picking a green colour, Monobear starts to paint on the easel. You can't really make out Kaede's expressions, given how he's covered in paint. Monobear then shoves the nature artist's head into the blue paint, going for a few more strokes. This cycle continues until you notice that red has started to mix in with the various colours. Monobear is getting tougher with his 'paintbrush', jamming it against the easel and into the palette, causing more red to blend in. Finally, Monobear stops, looking at all of you. He winks once- and slams Kaede into the paper with a terrible amount of force. Laughing, Monobear turns the easel around to face you. It's a picture of the very valley you're all currently in, excluding one key difference- every student who died is painted, standing emotionlessly in a row in front of the lake. And overtop of them, there's a sickening red splatter. The world goes dark again. KAEDE MASAGARU, MASTERMIND, HAS BEEN EXECUTED. CONGRATULATIONS, STUDENTS! YOU WIN!

An Ode To Our Empty Valley

Kaede stood there, a soft smile on his face as he silently watched everyone react. He felt no remorse; perhaps a bit of sadness, knowing what end he was going to meet. But he’d known from the start, and now was the time to explain everything, right?

He gave Touya a soft smile, starting to step down from in front of the throne.

“Tou-chan, do not push yourself… I do not want you getting further hurt.”

He turned to the crowd, soft, somewhat sad smile still in place.

“You are asking, who, why… And I will explain. Let me start off by saying… I did not have ill intentions bringing you here. Ah, and…”

He stepped forward, right towards Alex at his podium. He reached his arms up and gave his boyfriend a hug and a kiss on the lips. Then he pulled away, still with a smile, talking quietly in Alex’s ear.

“I do love you, Al-chan… Alex. I truly do. And I am sorry for all the pain I have caused you.”

Then he turned with a twirl of his dress, walking back up near the throne and sitting upon it, kicking his legs rather innocently.

“I am a member of a group called ‘Super High School Level Despair’! You all do not remember, but you did know of them. Actually, we were all going to go to a safe place together! But, I agreed to join them…”

He paused, looking up with a smile still on his face.

“You see, I am an artist, as you all know! And, I wanted to paint despairing emotions! I do not understand why people are so afraid of death. It is a natural process, is it not? Plants and animals die all of the time… but, for humans, it is somehow different. I think that death is beautiful! And, it inspires such interesting reactions from all who see! It is hard to find certain emotions in animals and flowers, like guilt, remorse, despair… all of these are emotions only humans are truly capable of expressing! I was very interested in seeing all of these emotions, and being able to paint them. Super High School Level Despair gave me an opportunity, and I could not refuse! Besides, I wanted to share these emotions with you, all of my friends!”

He giggled a bit, smile still on his face.

"This city was a gift that was gifted to me by the higher ups of Super High School Level Despair. Considering that I was using my entire class of Hope’s Peak students, they were happy to give me this space. Ah, I don’t believe that any of you were aware of that, were you? The whole lot of you, myself included, were classmates. And I, Kaede, like to think that we still are. Close friends, moving forward together, even as some of us fall. Isn’t that touching?"

Kaede suddenly looked pensive, perhaps a bit upset. However, a small, sad smile drifted onto his face. He looks up at you all, stopping to make eye contact with each of you as he talks. Disturbingly enough, he was also making eye contact with the portraits of the dead students.

"Well, you have all heard me talk for quite some time now. I, Kaede, have said all I needed to say. As sad as it is, all good things must come to an end. Our game is no different. Monoki will guide you from here. I bid you all farewell, and wish nothing but happiness upon each and every one of you. You’re all my friends, forever and always."

His head turns, quietly, to Alexandar. A kind, small smile is worn on the mastermind’s face, no despair visible.

"I love you. Goodbye."

A shifting noise is heard in the background as the courtroom goes dark.

Minnie continued shaking as the entire madness began to unfurl. What the hell was happening? Was she going to live? Would they all die now that the mastermind was exposed? She had no idea what to expect, but her eyes slowly moved up from her hands to look at Kaede.

With all her classmates screaming, she had no idea what she could do at this point. She was too afraid to speak, and instead just listened in silence. Why the hell would he do this to all of them…? Cause the trauma that he did…?

Rotten Boy, Grotesque Machinations | Alistair (Re: Mastermind Reveal)

Alistair wasn’t angry, but a fire burned inside of him, black and raw and melting away any other emotion. It was hate, burning hotter than anything he had felt for Gang-Li.

"…Why? Why did you do this to us? Why did you hurt the ones we love? Why did you… Why did you…"

He was at a loss for words. Nothing he said could bring back any of his dead friends, yet he had so many questions that demanded answers.

"Who are you…? Who are you really, Kaede Masagaru?"

TOUYA REACTION- IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Touya heard the footsteps come down the hall and tried to force her eyes open. This was the endgame, she had to know who it was. She clutched at her leg and pulled herself up to her feet, leaning on the podium for balance to see Kaede come strutting in. She slammed her fists on the podium, forgetting about the fact that that would make the bullet slide slightly deeper in and yelled at the top of her lungs.

Are you shitting me? You’re the one who’s been doing this? I only voted for you to humor Alistair-kun and here you are proving all our trust in you wrong! Weren’t we important to you? Weren’t we your friends? I mean for fucks sake I got shot for your little game! HALF OUR FRIENDS ARE DEAD! Alexander-kun’s having a mental breakdown! Alistair-kun got tackled! I GOT SHOT! And he was still right? What the actual fuck?

You have got to be kidding him. You have got to be fucking kidding him.

Ugh, already he could hear Alistair gloating in his head 'I told you so' or some shit like that. They had little evidence, and somehow they got it right? What the abso-ever-loving-lute fuck?

Luke couldn't give a damn when Kaede fell in, and then came back in some weird outfit that was probably supposed to resemble Monobear or something. He knew he should be angry. Angry that this guy, this guy right here, threw them into this horrible game that made them lose their classmates, people that had better things ahead of them, only for it to be cut short like this.

He could muster no words as Kaede continued to smile at them, like a young prince on the king's throne, as if all was right in the world.

The most the observer could offer was a stone cold glare.

Alexander Moore-McGowan - Sweeter than Heaven, Hotter than Hell

Alexander opened his mouth to call for Kaede, but he had already disappeared. The boy who stepped out from the passageway was… not Kaede. Was it? No, it couldn’t be. Alex felt like he had fallen from several stories and just impacted the ground as he watched Kaede (his boyfriend, his friend… his boss) emerge before them. He didn’t want to believe that the one he had fallen for was the one who had done all of this, he wanted to believe anything but this.

The real topper on the cake was Kaede honestly looked hot as hell in his new getup. But what time was this to be having feelings like these?! Alex felt his stomach churn.

"Kaede…?"

He gripped at his podium to stay standing. The chef’s heart pounded against his ribs like the beating of a rock and roll drum, his breath emerging in shaky bursts. Alexander, you little shit, don’t cry. You’ve been crying nonstop since—

Alex leaned over his podium, unable to hold back his tears. His head bowed, and the chef could be visibly shaking.

"I l-loved you," he mumbled lowly. "I loved y-you, why… why d-did I…" His shoulders shook softly as he was overcome with silent sobbing. Why did I think you loved me? “Why did I k-kill to protect you?!”

Alexander reared up, emerging to his full height and remembering just how much height he did have on his ‘boyfriend.’ Nobody was going to have sympathy for him—for the traitor in their ranks, the one who had been giving his time and information to the body behind this. But Alex knew that already.

As ironic as it was, Alexander felt horribly betrayed. Why would Kaede have wanted his love if this was all his doing? And why would Alex have been so stupid as to fall for it.

Ever Wonder Bout What He's Doing? | Hana | MM Reveal Reaction (Re: Kaede)

There is a quality of silence as Hana stands at her podium. She didn’t want a mastermind vote. She didn’t want too - she didn’t ever want to ever think of any of her classmates ever being able to organize and cause what happened here at this camp. Especially not someone like Kaede - he was always sweet, and seemed vaguely lost and confused - naive, if you will. Therefor, when Mastermind voting came around, Hana took a breath, closed her eyes, and then smacked her hand against her podium. Who did she vote for - Kaede, herself, someone else-?? She can’t tell, for she immediately opens her eyes and looks away from the podium, stepping out of it.

The pit opens up and drops Kaede into it, and Hana gives a startled cry - mastermind or not, that’s startling, especially, because like everything else in this place, could be deadly. However… the giggling that started? Creeped her right the heck out. Goosebumps crawling across her skin, she starts edging north towards Soumeis’ podium, and away from the throne area, which— which was moving? Hana’s brow furrowed - then her brown eyes widen, both in fear and anger.

Then it hits Hana - who is laughing, who it is standing there in front of them, and whatever bit of her heart that she still hope left in, that hadn’t fallen to despair, just completely dropped into the dark pit in her stomach, and she stares at him for what seems like an exceptionally long time as he confirms that yes, he is the mastermind, and that they’ve done it. They’ve finally resolved this, the mutual killing game, but to what extent? To what /horror/?

"W-why?"

Those are the first words that Hana can get it, and it pains her to say them. Why would anyone subject - she does some mental math in her head, making sure to get the dead kids as well - after all, there’s quite a few of them! She then blinks, rubbing at her face agai- twenty two, maybe twenty three, twenty four kids if she’s maybe forgetting someone to this? This is the biggest question, and even as she asks it, her face falls, mouth curving into a small pout as she manages to choke out the words that burn in her throat.

"I - I mean, it’s — it’s not /fair/, it doesn’t make SENSE - what would drive you, someone so young, with such a future before you, to push everyone into this game? To want us to kill each other, to want us to destroy budding friendships, loves-" And she doesn’t dare look at Alex with that word- "Everyone in this room, everyone that has died, they had someone in here and someone out there in the real world that cared for them!"

At this point, Hana is outright sobbing, and her words are hard to make out.

"F-from Akito, Celestino, Kaoru, Felix, Minoru, Gang-Li, Yumiko, a-a-a-nd don’t even get me started on Vi-chan’s death and onii-chan!" That’s Hideo, for everyone that’s forgotten. "Why? Why, why? WHY WHY WHY?" She screams the last three, before falling down to her knees, a dark cloud covering her face.

Valley Of Lies And Truth

The votes came in for the Mastermind. They came in for Kaede. The boy watched them all with a rather confused expression, and the votes kept piling up until everyone was finished. “Eh…? Do you all believe that I, Kaede, am the one behind this…?” His voice sounded somewhat disappointed, hurt, eyes wide and sad. Suddenly, the floor dropped beneath his podium, and the nature artist fell into the pit, eyes growing wider as his hair and fingertips disappeared through the hole in the ground. A few students scrambled to reach for him, but the floor closed swiftly after Kaede was through, and they were too late. Silence fell across the courtroom. A few moments later, giggling echoed across the courtroom, a gentle but strange laughter. Surprised faces turned towards the throne, which had started slowly sliding to reveal a hidden passageway. And through that passageway stepped a person in a red and white dress… Kaede? It was indeed Kaede Masagaru, the sweet, innocent nature artist, in an entirely different outfit than the one he’d worn before, complete with a Monobear clip in place of the green ribbon he usually adorned in his hair. The look on his face wasn’t quite as innocent as it usually was. His eyes were slightly narrower, more knowing, the innocent smile he wore more mature. But yet, there still seemed to be an air of naivety surrounding him. The boy stepped forward to stand in front of the throne as it slid back into place. He smiled, gleefully, giggling and clapping his hands together. “Congratulations~! You did it! Yes, I am indeed the Mastermind.”

Hi everybody, it's Kale. It's been a while, huh? This group is NOT dead. There were some major communication issues between the soon-to-be executed and myself, and information was unable to be properly transferred for a very, very long time. However, it's finally finished! Now, we are close to having completed endgame preparations. We are hoping to have this game done within the week. If you aren't in the announcement chat, it's worthwhile returning to it. Thank you for holding up, because we're almost there!

Blast Off | Alistair (Re: Hana)

He was beating her and beating her, the blood smearing all over. He didn’t even feel the impact anymore as his fist met the swollen flesh of her cheeks. He was lost in the red haze, lost to himself, lost to everything but the blood.

And then he was thrown to the side like a puppet with its strings cut away, the haze dissipating instantaneously. A glazed look returned to his eyes, as he looked up at her.

She was mouthing something-No, saying something. He couldn’t hear, he could barely see, everything was hidden behind a milky curtain, and he was afraid.

Afraid for everyone, afraid for Minnie, afraid for Touya.

Even afraid for Alex and Kaede.

Soon the milky fog began to fade, his senses slowly returning. Along with a the clarity came a dull throbbing pain throughout most of his body.

"God… Since when have you been the SHSL Linebacker?"
