spock and kirk share a bathroom, and because they and mccoy are all collectively idiots, this causes new and exciting issues as they TRY to use it to avoid ship scuttlebutt.
something's Wrong with spock, and they're trying to keep that from the rest of the ship, so they're like! solution! they'll keep spock in his quarters, and mccoy will simply enter and exit from kirk's quarters to make sure ppl don't suspect anything about spock! this will absolutely not start any mckirk rumors, what are you talking about?
later on, something's Wrong with kirk, and they're again trying to keep it from the rest of the ship, and these three geniuses are like, hey, it worked so well last time, let's do it in reverse! so there's like a week straight where mccoy's just walking into spock's quarters and staying overnight, what are you talking about, nothing to see here, the captain is fine (in their defense: the spones rumors absolutely do overshadow any rumors about the captain's health lmao)
something happens with mccoy, and he hmm becomes sensitive to light, and it's easier to make him comfortable in his own quarters because of that - they also discover that physical touch helps keep the pain at bay, and it's no secret from the ship that mccoy's sick and confined to quarters, but it IS WEIRD that spock and kirk change their schedules to work opposite shifts and whenever they're not working they're in mccoy's quarters......like yeah other people go in there as well but it's mostly spock and kirk.............
(this has nothing to do with rumors this is literally them just being "well we have to help our bestie with in-bed cuddling, obviously we're going to be the ones to do it, why do you look surprised nurse chapel, doctor m'benga? surely you expected this? it's very obvious)
