Starting a new Fiction series over on my Substack.
Some places don’t appear on maps. You find them because you were meant to, or because you took a wrong turn you can’t quite explain.
Along a lonely stretch of desert highway, there’s a roadhouse where the coffee is strong, the jukebox knows more than it should, and the regulars don’t ask too many questions.
This is where Alex pours drinks, hums songs that don’t belong to this world, and waits for something—or someone—she’s seen only in dreams.
Out here, the highway is long, the coffee is strong, and the music knows your name.
SIGHT
The hardest lesson we have to learn: Everything's subjective, seen only through our eyes.
The hardest action we have to enact: setting aside our sight, to try and see through another's.
BENEATH THE SURFACE
Beneath the surface,
there is no anger.
There is pain,
but there is no fear.
The surface itself is rough
It's marred and scarred from much rough handling.
There are jagged edges.
It's been mistreated, carelessly used.
But it is tough.
It has to be.
For what lies beneath is fragile.
Priceless.
A true romantic, a young idealist.
A soul that shines.
The real me.
Be careful when you touch the surface.
In anger, do not deal it a blow.
You may break the fragile soul
that lies just beneath the surface.
on watching a parent age
i saw somebody say “what if you’re gone and i haven’t become anything yet” and basically that broke me on a random thursday evening
