Throughout the past week, we have done countdown interviews with some of the artists involved this year, whether they are nominated or performing at JUNOfest, and today we have Vancouver, BC based trio, The Katherines. Music News | CBC Toronto Unveils New Toronto Anthem

CBC Toronto has recently hosted a public series called 6ix in the 6ix. The series asked GTA artists to write an original song about Toronto or “The 6ix”. They had a huge response, with hundreds of people entering. Twelve artists made it to the shortlist through a public vote, and then a CBC judging panel took it from there, and crowned Britney Davis the winner!

We caught up with Freddie Mojallal of Autumn Portrait at his most recent concert in Hamilton to discuss the exciting things coming up for him in 2016, including the production of a new album. The Juno Awards. Canada’s Grammys, as some people like to refer to them as. It’s a huge honour in this country. A huge celebration of music and what Canada has to offer. And well because it’s a Canadian event it also happens to be one giant party that even includes a hockey game! (Oh Canada).

Music News | 30th Annual Mussel Bed Soiree Lineup Announcement

The Town of Lewisporte and the Mussel Bed Soiree committee have announced the lineup for the 30th Annual Mussel Bed Soiree concert. On August 6th, fans will fill the field in Lewisporte to see headlining act, Simple Plan, along with country acts Doc Walker and Autumn Hill, alternative rock group Walk Off The Earth, and Canadian rock legend Tom Cochrane.

The Mussel Bed Soiree will be held from August 3rd – 8th with the concert being held on Saturday, August 6th. Early bird tickets go on sale April 1st for $70 until April 30th. Tickets then sell for $90 until July 29th and will be $120 at the gates. They can be purchased by phone at (709) 535-2737 or at the Town Office.

Interview | Coleman Hell

Coleman Hell has been taking the music scene by storm with the diverse, catchy pop beats of his hit single “2 Heads.” As fans await the release of his debut LP, the Juno nominated artist is gearing up for a spring tour with Twenty One Pilots. Canadian Beats got the chance to catch up with him to talk about the Junos, what’s in store for his new music, and his love of Elaine from Seinfeld.

Music News | 2016 Music PEI Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 2016 Music PEI Awards have been announced and you will not be disappointed with the sheer amount of talent the Island has to offer. With the 30 categories ranging from the music, musicians, industry personnel, and venues, this year’s May Run Music Festival, where the awards are presented, is sure to be a hit.

Review | Jeff Healey

Jeff Healey is a name you’ve likely heard before. If not, you’ve probably heard some of his hits, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Lost in Your Eyes”, and “How Long Can a Man Be Strong”, just to name a few. In the 80’s and 90’s Healey and his band took the Canadian music scene by storm and made their name one you won’t be able to forget. Unfortunately, Healey passed away in 2008 due to his three-year long battle with sarcoma cancer. Heal My Soul is a collection of songs recorded in a three-year period of Healey’s life where he experienced intense bursts of creativity which resulted in many more songs being recorded than he needed. This album is the first time unreleased songs are being released in more than 16 years and was released on what would have been Healey’s 50th birthday.

On Sunday, March 20, Canadian Beats writer, Nanci Dagg was afforded the opportunity to chat with Toronto, Ontario based country singer-songwriter Nicole Rayy. They really had fun filming this segment of On The Spot, and we hope you all enjoy watching it as much as they enjoyed making it!

March 19, 2016 Canadian Beats writer/photographer, Linda Heldman made her way to London, ON to attend the CMAO Road Show and New Faces Showcase West! She caught up with Shae Dupuy & Stefan Guy to film a great segment of On The Spot and we were also treated to an acoustic version of Tinman!

Saturday March 19, Canadian Beats writer/ photographer Linda Heldman attended the CMAO Road Show in London, ON, along with the New Faces Showcase West. She had a chance to catch up with London, ON based country artist, Genevieve Fisher to film a brand new segment of On The Spot!

Music Video | Hedley

One of Canada’s favourite bands from the west coast, Hedley has released their music video for their new single “Lose Control” off of their new album Hello, released in November of 2015. The video features talented dancers dancing around the band as they perform the song. Hedley is just about ready to hit the Canadian roads for a coast to coast tour in April and May. Show Review | The Sheepdogs & Beat Cops

After more than thirty stops along the way Saskatchewan natives The Sheepdogs, one of Canada’s fastest rising bands, wrapped up the Canadian leg of their Future Nostalgia tour with a show at Moncton’s Casino NB. Joining them on stage, as they have throughout the tour was Montreal’s Beat Cops for an evening of straight up rock n’ roll. Playing to an enthusiastic all ages crowd both bands kicked things up a notch for their final outing together before The Sheepdogs head to Europe for dates throughout March and April.
