Yeah, it was probably best all around that the younger man relented so quickly. Kaidan was a sweetheart. Honestly. But sometimes he was a real shit at explaining things. Poor babe.
Lucien felt…safer, more complete, having Kaidan’s arms around him. The biotic was so much warmer than the infiltrator. It would not be lying to say Sinclair mooched body heat from Kaidan, perhaps 98% of the time they were actually together. Right now, he brushed a cold nose against his lover’s warm neck, biting back an approving noise at the brush of soft, firm lips against Lucien’s neck.
Asshole going straight for Lucien’s sweet spot. Rendering him pliable for a kiss that had the lieutenant leaning in, opening up, chasing for more of the kiss, more of the open-mouthed connexion between them. “Anything?” he mumbled before nipping at Kaidan’s lower lip. “Then you have to cook for me. And shower with me. And sleep with me. And not go rushing off into God knows where without letting me know. And kiss me some more. And at some point, answer that question I asked before we both left.”
Because shit: Lucien was still a nervous wreck over that. It was a yes or no question. Well, maybe a yes, no, not right now, kind of question. And he’d…kinda…stumbled…his way through asking it, sans going down on one knee.
He probably could have guessed that one. Cooking, followed by a shower, and embraces in the rather expensive furniture Kaidan hardly ever had time to enjoy due to long trips that came with being some kind of hero and the obligations along with it. Kaidan was grateful that his time served with Shepard was honored, but really, all he wanted to do now was take a bath and cook some actual food. None of those biotic energy bars he carried around all the time, and none of the stuff that had to be heated up in a microwave, either.
Kaidan laughed, and was just about to inquire about what Lucien would like for dinner, but instead responded with an, “Ahhhh...yeah, about that.” Kaidan took a step back so he could get a better look at Lucien, his warm eyes sincere. “Sorry I never got to answer, but I’m sure you already know what I was gonna say..er...at least I hope you know what I was gonna say.”
He reached up, scratching near his implant on the back of his neck. Sudden panic.
“Wait, that question’s still relevant, right?!” A pause. “I understand if it’s not but, I was gonna answer and--” Kaidan had to bite his tongue. Rattling on with no direction was still one of his bad habits.
“Well, just so you know, regardless of whether or not it still stands, I was going to and still am going to say yes.” A thumb massaged gently at the base of his skull. No headaches, just habit.
[MSG]: Shit, that picture wasn’t supposed to send to anyone. Delete it.
Shit.
Shit.
Lucien’s stomach clenched at the way Kaidan chewed at his lips, the way he hunched over. He never liked making Kaidan upset, uncomfortable.
Miserable.
He sighed, hands raking through his hair, a noise of distress wanting to bubble out, but never reaching the world. The lieutenant swallowed, clenched his jaw, before moving–half-stumbling–to practically fall on Kaidan. His arms latched around the major’s shoulders with another stuttering sigh, a groan.
“I missed you. Asshole.” There were a few more mutters, mumblings about Kaidan being a Canadian bacon-eating, stupid silver fox, but Lucien held onto his lover tight. He had to.
Kaidan was just about to open his mouth and continue digging himself into a hole of terribly articulated explanations about Spectre meetings and biotic training, along with a whole slew of drama that came with his young students, but he was quickly embraced and affectionately called an asshole.
The apartment smelled like chocolate and Lucien like scotch. A gentle breeze blew through a cracked window.
“I missed you too,” he replied, wrapping strong arms around a lithe frame, squeezing tight as if he hadn’t seen him in months...well, Kaidan really hadn’t seen him in months this time. “How can I make it up to you?” he said, voice low against Lucien’s neck. Before Lucien could respond, however, Kaidan pulled back and gave the younger man a much needed kiss; warm, like smooth bourbon. It lingered there, filling in the gaps of all the things Kaidan couldn’t say.
“I’ll do anything. And I promise it’s not gonna happen again.”

weeell i never said it would be lovey dovey mshenko
“So.”
Lucien didn’t want to admit he’d missed Kaidan. Wished for some kind of message from Kaidan. Fuck, he’d laid his heart out for Kaidan before that mission–those missions, really–that separated them for a time.
“Is it going to be an explanation? Or an excuse?” And nope: he wasn’t about to answer the question about how he was. No matter how…frustrated Sinclair might be, impatiently brushing hair off his face, he wasn’t going to lie to the older man.
Ouch, that hurt. The crease between his brows seemed to become deeper in their time apart, and his current expression demonstrated that well. His posture was no longer perfect, his lower lip dry from nervous chewing. Kaidan’s stomach churned, as it had been doing all day. He’d both been looking forward to and dreading this.
“It wasn’t something I could help, Luc, and if it was...if it was...” He stumbled over his words, an audible exhale cutting him off. His foot nudged at the heavy bag that he’d dropped on the floor when he entered the room.
“I’ve been places too, y’know. Just because the war’s over doesn’t mean...” Again, Kaidan stopped. He wasn’t the kind to argue, nor was he one to make up excuses. “Nothing’s gonna sound good enough at this point, Lucien. All I can say is that I missed you like hell. Every day I thought about you.” He managed the confidence to look up into the lieutenant’s eyes and muster a smile, “And I’m happy to see you.”
The lieutenant stared. And stared. And his eyes narrowed, arms crossing over his chest.
“And who said you had to explain anything?”
Lucien’s stare coupled with his seemingly unimpressed stance made Kaidan cringe internally. The last thing he had wanted to do was to upset the lieutenant.
“--nobody, I guess, but I feel like I definitely owe you one.” Kaidan picked at his fingernails, his broad shoulders slumping a little. “You alright?” damn, probably not the best thing to say.
“--oh, hey. I...can explain, I swear.”

”Of course, and yes, I’m fine, really. Just erm, caught me a little off guard, is all. Do I seem… off or something?”
"Well, uh-- sorry for being blunt, Traynor, but you...always seem a little off when you're around me.
I'm not gonna assume anything, cause maybe that's just how you are. I haven't known you long enough to pry, I guess, but if something's up..."

"Kaidan. Good to see you. Want some coffee?"
"Shepard, hey. Good to see you, too. Yeah, you got any decaf? I know it kinda defeats the purpose of coffee, but too much caffeine triggers migraines."
