Dinah is pretty sure that most of her team has gone home for the night when she steps out of her office in full Canary uniform, which is why it’s surprising to see a light still on the main garage, the stereo switched from the generic top forty that it’s usually playing during the day to something else. It’s even more surprising for her to see that Johnny is the one still there, on his back underneath a sleek black Camaro that had looked a hell of a lot worse for wear a couple of days ago--she’s pretty sure that he has a beautiful girlfriend he should be getting home to, or a sister he could be seeing. She debates just sneaking out of the back door and leaving him to his late night--the last thing she would do is begrudge him the peace of figuring out whatever is weighing on him with his hands in an engine--but she likes the kid a lot, and even though she’s not the most caring person in the world, it can be nice to have someone solid to just talk at.
She smiles warmly and folds her legs underneath her, the cement floor through her fishnets. “Feel free to tell me to shut the hell up and mind my own, but don’t you have better things to be doing, hot stuff?” She raises an eyebrow when he rolls out from underneath the car, a streak of grease across one of his cheekbones. “And if you tell me that you’re still here on my account, I’ll kick your ass so hard. So make it good, better be fixing this bad boy up to take out onto the streets or something, I wouldn’t judge, even though I have never even thought about doing such a thing ever because I’m a responsible business owner.” She grins and shakes her head, exhales. “And I’ve never won any money street racing with stolen property because that’s wrong. Not what the Black Canary stands for, of course.”
