The woman in the pictures above is my beautiful mother on her wedding day 18 years ago.
Upon unboxing what we thought was her wedding dress, we realized that we’ve been holding onto the WRONG DRESS for 18 years.
The Cleaning place where my parents had gotten the dress professionally preserved MIXED UP THE ORDERS and gave my Mom the WRONG dress.
This dress was made in the Philippines, along with the shirt my Dad wore to their wedding. My Mom, who was born there, said that her dress was one of the last pieces of her home country that she held on to. And now it’s gone.
Today, on Thanksgiving, (November 26th, 2015) I watched my Mother break down in tears when she realized her wedding dress was lost.
The dress was preserved near Wauconda IL. If you have any idea where her dress may have ended up, or by a slim chance you are the person who has this dress, please contact me. Send me a message.
Even if you don’t live in the area, please help me and SIGNAL BOOST THIS. I want to do as much as I can for my mom, and possibly find it.
Thank you for your time.

Here are a few useful herbs that are good to start out with
Check out my recommended books
Paul Bergner has excellent information and courses available here
The East West School of Planetary Herbology is a great place to take courses
The Lunar Apothecary is a great for leaning about herb magic and lunar herbology

Tips
Check out local plant societies to see what activities they have planned. Some of them offer free plant walks that will help you to get to know your local plants
Start experimenting with your (safe) local weeds first. For many of you, this means sorrel, dandelion, plantain, violet leaf, and ground ivy.
Get your warnings and safety information from reputable books and herbalists, not social media (tumblr). There are many rumors on this site about what is and isn’t poisonous, please don’t believe everything you read!
Keep a few materia medica books on hand to check for contraindications and safety instead. My go-to books for checking whether an herb is okay with me are located in the recommended books post above
Pick 1 herb a month to really focus on. Keep in mind that you can do a lot with a few herbs, some of them have dozens of uses
Learn about your herbs by tasting and using them, not just reading! Personal experience is more important than book knowledge (except when it comes to safety)
Equipment
JARS (check the thrift store for cheap finds)
Alcohol - I usually use 80 proof vodka for tinctures but you can also use brandy depending on what you’re making
Oils- I like grapeseed oil and coconut oil
Funnels
Cheese cloth for straining herbs
Kitchen scale
French press (easy way to make loose leaf tea)
Idea of what to start making with herbs
Bruise/injury salves

Methods to Bond with Deities
Research: Reading lore, studying history and focusing on how others have bonded in the past can deepen your own bond.
Offerings: Leaving gifts or foods you've made or cooked shows passion and effort that many deities seem to appreciate.
Divination: Using tarot cards or pendulums or writing or dreaming can be way to interpret deities.
Journals: Whether for yourself or for your deity journals are a good way to review past experiences.
Crafts: Whenever making something by hand the time you spend and efforts you put in the details help make connections.
Exploring: Places you discover might feel closer to those you want to know better.
Hobbies: Gardening, writing, or even cooking can be both offerings and activities you share with your deities.
Sharing: Talking to others about their deities can reignite passion and help you realize your own feelings.
Shrines: Having a specific place to do these activities can help you focus on them.
Prayer: It doesn't have to be formal or it can be a well known prayer simply reaching out is simple and often rewarding.
me: *catches myself being judgmental* me to me: i did not raise u this way
Being a Depressed Witch
I suffer from severe depression and so I thought I would share a few of the ways I keep myself from falling off the face of the earth when I’m having an episode.
1) Bathes! I love myself a good bath. Lavender and peppermint baths are good for raising spirits.
2) Tea: I’m also a huge fan of tea. Vervain, lavender, passionflower and borage make a pretty swell anti depression tea. Remember to make sure it’s safe for you to consume those herbs though, certain Meds act funny with herbs.
3) Burn candles/incense/oil: I like to burn lemongrass scented stuff to help me feel better.
4) Get some sun. I personally have a vitamin D deficiency and have to have a certain amount of sunlight or I start having suicidal tendencies. If it’s too hot to be outside, sit near a window.
5) Clean your room. Make your bed. Wash your pillow cases. I know it sucks and you don’t want to get out of bed but trust me, being in a clean environment DOES help.
6) Meditate. Sit somewhere quiet and just breath deeply. You would be amazed at how much just quieting your mind and breathing will help.
7) Spending time with my crystals and plants. They are always so loving and caring and help me feel better.
8) Spending time with my dragons and astral traveling together. Sometimes you just gotta get away.
If you have lemon balm, that stuff seems to work well for me too! (It grows like wild where I live, just sniffing the stuff makes me feel better).
Money spell! Reblog to charge it with your intent; the more people see it, the more powerful it becomes. Magic should be fun!
witch tip: against the cold
Whisper in the palm of your hands, while focusing on your will: Emisael Domine. If done correctly, it will warm your entire body.
The more you need to warm your body, the more you’ll need energy.
wow i can’t believe I am seeing this back on my dash haha
Hey, I want to become a Wiccan and I'm not sure how to start. How do I get a BOS? Do I have to make it or can I buy one? How do I make an altar? How do I do a dedication ritual? Do I wear a pentagram? Thank you so much
Hi lovely!
Wicca is, first and foremost, your journey. Nobody else can take it for you, but that also means that nobody else can, at the end of the day, really criticise much about how you do things. Everyone practices differently, and everyone’s path takes them by a different way, but the destination is the same, which is connection to the gods and connection to oneself. It’s completely OK to be unsure of your destination, or to be unsure you will get there - however, if you know that this is not why you wish to enter Wicca then perhaps you should reconsider. Secular witchcraft has many of the same features of Wicca’s magickal practice, but it doesn’t have the religious aspect to it.
However! I’m sure you’ve already been through that, so I’ll move along!
Book of Shadows
A
Book of Shadows
, also known as a BoS, is a very common tool for Wiccans. It’s rather like a Wiccan’s diary, and contains in it any aspects of their practice or ritual or even life that they think is relevant or that they’d quite like to put in it. I’ve
already written about it in more depth here
, but I’ll summarise it here too:
Handmaking a BoS is fine. So is buying it, because at the end of the day it’s YOUR choice what you do. If you’re crap at making things, don’t make a shoddy product because you have some vague sense of duty.
Use a loose-leaf binder, you have no idea how useful this is.
Decorate it in a way that is meaningful to you, don’t decorate it with skulls and black just because you think that’s “witchy”. If you like skulls and black though, go ahead.
Coven books should not be the high priest/esses personal book. It just makes things confusing when they leave.
A book of shadows isn’t some kind of rule. You don’t even have to have one.
It’s acceptable to write your BoS in some flowing, runic script… provided you can actually read it. You have no idea how many people I’ve seen going “I wrote my BoS in Elvish, and now I can’t read a damn word”.
As for obtaining one, I went down to OfficeWorks, found a loose-leaf binder with a white cover, bought 500 sheets of loose-leaf paper, and went home. Then I doodled on it with pencil, and filled it in with permanent marker. I don’t use it much, since my brain holds almost all of my witchy stuff, but it’s good for sigils and herbalism.
Altar
Another one that often stumps beginner Wiccans (so don’t feel bad about it, you’re asking the same questions as everyone else at this point) is the
altar.
What is an altar? How do I make one? Do I need one? How can a hidden witch or a witch living with unaccepting people make an altar and keep it safe?
These are all really involved questions, and I may simply make a big post about it pretty soon in order to answer all these common questions. However, I’ll write a quick summary here and then later post a big, big thing about altars to clarify more fully.
What is an altar?First of all, an altar is many things but at its core it is a sacred space in which you practice and are most connected to the Gods. It is usually tied to a physical object, but this is not always the case - I myself have been working with converting my herb garden into a big, walk-in altar space, in addition to my small altar in the house.
One can have as many altars as they feel they require, though I do recommend that if you don’t USE that altar very often, you consider not making it an altar or closing the circle for good. This is because unused altars are a bit like unused houses, because they provide ready-made shelter for lots of smaller creatures, not all of which are beneficial. Unused houses attract black widows and snakes; unused altars attracted negative spirits. Though, bear in mind that like black widows and snakes, negative spirits are not evil, they’re just not good for humans. They’re still a necessary part of the magickal world.
So really, an altar space (not spelt “alter”!) is just an area that you have made magickal and sacred through your use and dedication of it to a specific goal. Objects on the altar can be important to your practice, but they are not important to the altar space itself because this is just “sacred ground”.
What about the objects and the altar table though?Whilst an altar space is simply sacred ground, the altar itself can feature a number of objects, both decorative and functional. The most common functional objects are the athame, the chalice, and the offering dish - the athame being a ceremonial knife, the chalice being a ceremonial cup, and the offering dish being something on which to place offerings to the Gods or the spirits.
What objects you use are entirely up to you. For the sake of keeping it short, I won’t go into them, but some people want only a simple altar with a few crystals and a knife and a bowl, and others want expansive altars with real deer antlers and black velvet for a cloth and 5 sizes of candle with a full size God and Goddess statue or whatever. Both kinds of altar are completely fine, because an altar is what matters to YOU, not what matters to someone else. My most used altar is simply a ceramic bowl, filled with a few small ritual items and a pentagram necklace, which is only a few inches across and allows me to have an altar wherever I go.
What about altars for hidden witches? In this case, I recommend an altar that is not an altar. I recommend you find a shoebox or something similar, and simply place within it all the elements of your practice that you cannot do without. A letter opener for an athame, a mug for a chalice. Small, innocent things that appear to simply be random objects. Don’t use pentagrams or skulls - they’re not necessary parts of your craft, and they’re indisputably witchy. To be fair, NO physical objects are “really” necessary, because at the end of the day it’s our will and our minds that truly matter. However, it can be hard to practice without at least a few objects. Perhaps a candle too, a box of matches, and underneath it a tea-towel or an old bit of cloth, to act as your altar cloth. An altar is what YOU make of it, after all.
Pentagrams
Ah yes, that most quintessentially witchy object of them all, the pentagram (or more accurately, the pentacle). A pentagram is any five-pointed star, a pentacle is a five-pointed star encapsulated by a circle that touches all 5 points.
This object is really common in Western witchcraft, and many Wiccans claim it as being a Wiccan symbol. However, it’s no more Wiccan than it is any other form of practice. The pentagram represents the 5 elements, which are spirit (the top point) and the other points are fire, water, earth, and air.
Many Wiccans wear pentacles as necklaces or bracelets, but this isn’t mandatory! I carry one in my bag, but I don’t wear it or even bring it out that often. I just feel better for having it, you know? If you think wearing one is right for you, go ahead <3 It doesn’t make you less of a witch NOT to do so.
Dedications
A dedication is a personal choice to “dedicate” oneself via a special ritual (often one related to coven practice, but many solitaries also self-dedicate) to a deity or to a group of deities. I am dedicated to the Goddess, because I was called to serve Her, but since this is not a Wiccan-exclusive thing many people are dedicated to all manner of deities or pantheons.
I recommend you decide for yourself whether you wish to dedicate your worship and study to a specific deity/pantheon, and then if the answer is yes do some research. Find out what the historical dedication has been - I used a dedication to Artemis which I identified from a Greek text, and then I performed a similar Celtic one to honour my Celtic heritage.
It’s up to you to whom you dedicate and how you do it. Covens may require you to be dedicated to a specific deity in order to join, but if you are not ready for that then don’t allow yourself to be pressured into it. It’s a big decision! You CAN practice Wicca without dedicating yourself to anyone, it’s completely OK!

I hope this helps anyone who needs it!

Stormcraft//
(taken from various sources and some personal stuff toooo. Someone requested all my knowledge on storm witchery so here ya goo)
Tools of the Trade// • Broken branches can be used as wands • Stones • Ashes • Storm Water • Storm Mud • Drums • Rain Water • Hail/Snow • Whistling
Storm Water// • Chaos • Struggle • Emotions • Weathering a storm • Power • Good for protection • Good for curses
Whistling the Wind// • A traditional practice in many aboriginal and indigenous cultures (in some native American myths about hunting bears, it was considering very bad luck to whistle on the way, as it would summon the winds and give away your position-Yikes!) • Low pitch whistle: a light breeze • High pitch whistle: large gust of wind
Storm Casting// • Burning pansy, heather and saffron ( rain-bring and wind-calling herbs) • Stirring water clockwise in either a hole in the ground or a bowl and whistling • Sending a large burst of energy into a cumulus cloud (my personal favorite but you have to be VERY careful to properly visualize what kind of storm you want or you could end up with a doozy)
Storm Catching// • Catching and binding a storm in a bottle or jar and putting it away for later use • Can also use ropes and know magick for this • I personally like to suck in air (an anti-whistle?) as if I am attracting the storm to me
Preventing a Storm// • “blow it away” using whistling and weather maps
Good herbs for Storm witches// • Saffron (to call the wind) • Heather (rain-bringing) • Pansy (rain-making)
Good stones for Storm Witches// • Pietersite (also known as the Tempest stone) • Hemimorphite • Azurite • Malachite • Nebula Stone • Lapis Lazuli
To make a Storm’ Witches Bath// • Sea salt • Heather • Saffron • Pansy • Rosemary • I totally take this chance to stir the water in the bath and whistle to summon storms
Nephelomancy: Cloud Colors// • White: good fortune • Golden: prosperity and abundance • Silver: blessings and riches • Red: warning • Orange: vibrancy, lively • Brown: cloudy future, caution • Green: fruitful, beginnings • Blue: travel, movement • Black: self-realization, difficult times ahead
More Nephelomancy// http://soothingvioletlight.tumblr.com/post/123989828757/cloud-magick
Creatures related to Storms// • Aer (Fae that control the weather) • Thunderbird (Native American creature that brings lightning) • Sylph (Wind Fae) • Shang Yang (Chinese rain bird) • Lightning Bird (African bird that brings lightning) • Cursor (messenger/cloud fae)
Super awesome storm witch blogs you should totally follow:
stormbornwitch
stormsorceress
amazon-storm-witch
because most of what I learned I totally learned from them and they are super kickass and their posts are really helpful. The storm casting, whistling winds, and such is info I learned from Stormborn, and I think I learned the properties of storm water from Sorceress? I seriously absorb so much info its hard to keep my cards straight but you should totally check them all out.
@stormbornwitch isn’t there the venti? Basically Roman angels who control the weathers. Or am I mistaken?
The venti weren’t angels they were Roman gods of the winds but yeah - here’s a list (that’s actually not horrible - not bad Wikipedia) of some weather related deities for anyone interested: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wind_deities
A few recommended witchcraft books
The Basics
Mastering Witchcraft by Paul Huson
This book is super popular. It is ceremonial in nature - don’t worry about needing to make Huson’s many ‘required’ items - but it has some really good stuff, especially the introduction and the Witch’s Pyramid.
Pure Magic by Judika Illes
This is the lady who wrote the Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells. Her book is good, leaning more towards New Age than Mr. Huson. I found the book to be generally well-rounded. It does cover a lot of basics, including plenty of rituals and spells.
The Sorcerer’s Secrets by Jason Miller
I have personally learned more from this book than any other. Instead of relying on spells, Mr. Miller teaches you the actual techniques of improving your magical skills. He also gives a reasonable explanation for how magic works and the ways you can practically apply skills to get what you want.
The Complete Guide to Psychic Development by Cassandra Eason
Mrs. Eason is the “if six candles are good, twelve is better!” type. I don’t agree with her that imagining a pink fluffy cloud (and I do not mock; this is literal) will remove all dangers. This book is perhaps best mixed with a more traditional one, such as Mastering Witchcraft. But if psychic stuff is for you, this book may be a great help.
Beyond the Basics
The Witch’s Familiar by Raven Grimassi
A surprisingly complete system of calling, working with, controlling, and dismissing familiars. If you have no idea where to start, and you prefer a slightly more ceremonial take on things, this is the book for you. It also holds value for those interested in spirit work.
Financial Sorcery by Jason Miller
You guys already know I have a thing for Mr. Miller, and I offer no apologies. He knows his stuff and he’s a good writer. Read this book if you want to make money with your magic in a way that actually works.
Seven Spheres by Rufus Opus
Not witchcraft - Hermetics. But it is a fantastic book, good for those who are looking for ‘the next step’ and are ready for spirit work and conjuration. I really learned a lot by reading this book, even if his tone is somewhat bro-ish at times.
Protection & Healing
Protection & Reversal Magick: Beyond 101 by Jason Miller
This was the first witchcraft book I ever bought! Gosh do I love it. Mr. Miller speaks in a straight-forward tone about certain dangers, and fills a book with different methods on how to fight, defend, and heal yourself after the battle. To those interested in Hekate, there are a couple original Hekatean rituals in this book. I highly recommend.
Psychic Self-Defense by Dion Fortune
An old, albeit still well-written handbook. Her accounts of psychic attack are fascinating and her solutions are practical and useful.
Spiritual Cleansing by Draja Mickaharic
This book is extremely practical and lays out several methods of cleansing for each problem addressed. Mr. Mickaharic loudly advocates against changing or substituting his spells, and basically says if you can’t do it the way he presents it in the book, don’t do it at all. So if you are the sort of practitioner who can’t get a hold of a pint of beer or seven walnuts to pop in the bathtub, this book is not for you. However, I was very pleased with the book and saw new content I had never seen before.
Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, and References
Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham
Yes, it’s getting on in years now. If it were a human it would have bought it’s first home and have two kids at this point. But it’s survived this long because it’s a solid reference for plants. When you get your hands on a new plant and don’t know what in the dickens you can use it for, Mr. Cunningham will give you a good overview. When planning a spell and you need to know what plants follow your correspondences, his tables in the back will list plants in accordance with your intent.
Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic by Scott Cunningham
What can I say. It’s like the plant book, but for crystams, gems, and metals.
The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall
This is the only book I’ll recommend that I haven’t *gasp* read personally. I’ve heard really good things about it. It is a big book of crystals. I just don’t care enough about crystals to get it, but if you care about crystals, then this is the book for you, I’ve heard.
(Elemental) Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells by Judika Illes
Correct me if I’m wrong on this one, but the ‘elemental’ encyclopedia is the same as the regular, non-elemental edition. What I find to be of real value in this book is not the spells themselves, but the extensive forward which has a lot of magical knowledge. You can also pick up great tidbits by browsing the book. The formulary in the back has recipes for all kinds of oils, powders, and potions. It’s a good book, I highly recommend.
The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft by Judika Illes
I’ll tell you what, Mrs. Illes sure does love her elemental encyclopedias. This is a solid book, covering a vast range of topics such as animals, holy days, and tools. I find the ‘animals’ section to be particularly useful.
Fabulous Creatures, Mythical Monsters, and Animal Power Symbols by Cassandra Eason
The book is full of what the title says. A good resource for mythical and regular animals.
Encyclopedia of Spirits by Judika Illes
The most sellable property of this book is that it lists many spirits by name. If you come across a certain name and want to know if it is connected to anybody, Mrs. Illes has the book for you. I find general entries such as “Ghost” or “mermaid” to be frustratingly sparse, but if you want to know who ‘Atargatis’ is, forget about it.
A Dictionary of Angels by Gustav Davidson
Want to know about angels and fallen angels? This is the book for you. Detailed. Thorough. No complaints.
