❛ hey , it’s me . i’m coming in . ❜ with only slight frustration, kayla bumps her hip against the door hard enough to create an opening and slips inside. her hands are occupied by an assortment of carrie’s favorite things, from her go - to candy cravings to her favorite face - masks. the second she’d heard about nick dumping her, she’d set off for the wilson house, and arrived after a brief care - package pit stop at the local shopping center. whether it’ll be enough to cheer her best friend up, kayla isn’t sure ; but what she DOES know is being upset with a new coat of nail polish is a lot better than nothing. the goods are unceremoniously deposited on carrie’s nightstand for later ( save for a huge bubblegum lollipop ), and kayla rounds on the bed, trying her best to frown. is it a bad thing she’s GLAD nick is gone ?
❛ okay, so what i’m not gonna do is ask how you are. instead, i’m gonna unfollow nick on instagram and unlike all his pictures while you tell me what’s on your mind. ❜ one hand fiddles with her phone while the other places the lollipop she’s been toting into carrie’s lap.❛ — bubblegum for my bubblegum bitch. ❜
the worst thing about all this is that carrie can’t figure out why it all hurts so much. normally, that’s the easy part, at least if she knew where the pain lived, she could block it out, get rid of it. but this, this was different. because while it’s not the first time nick has dumped her, this time it hurts, this time carrie actually thinks he means it. and, yeah, she knows that sounds, like, super bitchy, but, it felt like the truth. even though the cotton candy coated girl puts up a facade of confidence, radiating, sticky sweet, confidence; even though she had told nick that they both knew this was just like the other times, (even though it sure felt far from true) carrie’s insides feel twisted and turned out.
but as she manages to pull herself out of her own head, sort herself out, there’s kayla, there always is. to be quite honest, in the absolutely nicest way possible, kayla had always sort of felt like a shadow to carrie, something she could always count on to be there for her. an easy smile tugs at the corners of her mouth, she lets it pull her through the tears. “ god, kay’, i love you so much. ” carrie slowly unwraps the huge lollipop, brows furrowing gently at her best friends’ words. “ um … i just … ” lips purse, she hopes kayla doesn’t see how torn up she is. but, come on, it’s kayla, she just knows, she always has. there’s a long pause as the girl beside her busies herself with unfollowing nick. there’s a million things she wants to say, not a single one comes out. she hates this, feeling like this. “ i think it’s for real this time, guess he finally realized how big of a bitch i am, good for him. ”
