i finally read descendants a lost revenge and my heart is so full

right it would BUT not in the way d4 presents the timeline to us

we know for a fact it's 10 years between d1 and d4, which means d4 is set maybe 8 years after d3 which is all fine and dandy

the graphic novel, on the other hand, seems to be set not long after ben and mal's wedding which matches my theory that they got married less than a year after d3 but i digress, since uma is still struggling to find her place and auradon is still wary of her

SPOILER ALERT (but not really??) !!!!!!!

so the issue here is ben and mal ask uma to be the new headmaster of auradon prep by the end of the story, which doesn't match with the beginning of d4 at all

fairy godmother was NOT looking to step down. she basically just got promoted lol but a lost revenge makes it seem like she was looking to retire and immediately after that uma would take over

so this is the timeline:

belle and beast's wedding - year 0

d1 - year 20

d2 - year 20

d3 - year 21 (or 22?)

the royal wedding - year 22-ish

a lost revenge - year 22-ish plus a few months

d4 - year 30

in d4, uma becomes headmaster in year 30, while in the graphic novel she becomes headmaster about 8 years prior

see how it doesn't make any sense?
