The Revolution Might Be Funny, Part 2
More sketch notes from an epic panel discussion on March 18th at the New School, hosted by the Asian Student Collective, on the topic of race and comedy. Featuring comedians Hari Kondabolu, Aamer Rahman and Franchesca Ramsey, moderated by Jay Smooth.
The courage it takes to talk about social justice AND do comedy blows my mind. You are beacons for me.
Special thanks to Jiun Kwon for letting me attend the sold out event!
too many lab reports on the dance floor
i’ve turned in 2 every week! i’m not really sure what i am doing in the summer yet, but i miss the sun and laziness.
also this site changed a ton!
I painted an Ace Attorney still life, and also made a gif showing my work process (key word: indecisive). Nothing is in here from the fifth game because I started this before it came out, and though I’m still playing through it slowly, it isn’t really grabbing me so far.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO: Kendrick Lamar - “i”.
This video is black excellence.
PROTECT KENDRICK LAMAR AT ALL COSTS
This video so fuckin beautiful, black excellence
LET’S DISSECT WHY THIS IS GREAT: 1. A rapper who’s currently one more single away from becoming full blown mainstream who ISN’T switching gears just yet to cater to the mainstream audience and what they consider hip-hop to be/what hip-hop has become, which is between Iggy Azalea, Bobby Schmurda, and Drake. 2. A rapper who’s this close to full blown mainstream that isn’t rapping about simple shit, and who’s rapping over The Isley Brother’s “That Lady,” about loving himself regardless of the oppression that’s oozing through the cracks of our broken community/country. 3. The video of a rapper who’s close to full blown mainstream depicts the beauty and the tragedy of how Black people live. Where you feel incredibly happy to want to be in the crowd of people who are dancing at the club or walking the streets with Kendrick, you begin to feel a bit of annoyance seeing the police handcuffing the black man, or seeing the man yell and scream at his lady with kids around. 4. The video featured beautiful black people, in all different shades and all different personalities, just BEING. The women weren’t heavily sexualized and didn’t only have large breasts, big asses, light skins, and long, flowy hair. Our girls with kinks and curls came through, with skin shades reminiscent of coffee or honey, who were skinny or had a little sum’n sum’n. It was one great big party, and reminded me of Janelle Monae’s “Electric Lady,” video, where a bunch of beautiful Black people are together and CELEBRATING. Waving hands, dancing, singing out loud, SMILING… This year has been a whirlpool of anger, disappointment, eye rolls, “Fuck You’s”, and we haven’t gotten much reason to smile, aside from seeing people like Mo’Ne Davis achieve and succeed. It’s refreshing seeing us smile on our screens. 5. This video and the song illustrates where Kendrick is at. It illustrates he’s down for his blackness, his community, his art, his fans, and himself. In an industry where money talks quicker than your imagination to create great shit does, Kendrick continues to make money while he creates great shit, while representing us and himself. He’s not afraid of the truth, when it comes to telling it or BEING it. 6. That beat goes hard, tho.
I'M CATBUG ! High five to the four people who asked me for sugar peas. And the folks who liked my peanut butter squares.

Yesterday silkchemise took me to Little 5 Points, a hip part of Atlanta which reminds me of bits of Mission district and Berkeley. So many thrift shops and I found a treasure trove of stuff at one of the two music shops! Yay used vinyl! 1_ my delicious vortex burger of turkey and guac and jack cheese. my super sweet arnold palmer came in a bucket. the drink glasses are enormous here. 2_charis shop, a relaxing feminist house of books and progressive postcards. i bought a cool mystery here! 3_the eclectic sidewalk 4_the creepy storefront of vortex burger 5_welcoming sign of the neighborhood 6 + 7_beautiful murals

Haha NY Comicon was super fun! I went as Kiki with a big bow and teeny Jiji, had an amazing time hanging out with my pals. Lia and H juggled med school while making their Pokemon and Wind Waker cosplay, whew!! I got to meet up too with my sweet and talented pal Susanna (@boggywoods on tumblr) who served a killer Cersei, goblet and all!
Managed to attend the Elementary panel, Broad City (soo excited for January!), Deathnote, and a Marvel woc panel! Also bought too many arts as usual.
I’ll post some better photos of cosplays I really loved haha. :D
