I just watched the backrooms movie and im not much for posting analysis's on tumblr when it comes to media but i enjoy this rant i had (❁´▽`❁)
Backrooms spoilers no doy!!
Im wondering by the end they must have definitely still been in the backrooms and clark said that the more spaces it produces the more disfigured they tend to be, but the end is a fully real looking building so i feel that this institution is much older in comparision to the rest of what was initially explored!! I believe there is a possibility of the backrooms being known internationally due to all the different languages used on the paper cutout speaker (I have not checked for translations of what was being said yet)
Character wise i loved Clark and Mary a whole bunch obvi main characters but they are my favorites! I like their dynamic before and after the dinner scene but i do find the way Clark pushed Mary to act like his wife in the dinner scene interesting in that it may show a one sided almost parasocial feeling, I dont think this is definitive and its instead more to get payback for how she made him act out the scenario of the night his wife kicked him out in multiple of their therapy sessions
Mary is also a really fun character to look into in the fact that she mustve had some idea about the backrooms existing from her mother! Which is likely why she was laughing at the end because she realized that her mother was right (i think so!)
Unsure if there is a sequel confirmed considering there is no end credits which i liked this i feel that it gives the movie a much more set in place moment being whole
Mary being a therapist i feel also stems from her wanting to help and prevent people like her mother from getting sent to a psych ward of sorts (honestly i had no clue what it was here) And her mothers name was Nara i believe because in a flashback scene you could see pill bottles that had this name
another thing is that Captain Clark doesnt seem to fully hold the same sentiments as the real Clark, as if even his desires by the end dont line up to what the monster of him wants leading to it killing him and chasing down Mary
It may hold the resentment for Mary that Clark himself holds only to a much higher degree in that the real Clark was ready to let her go but the monster wasnt
My poor girl Mary bro she just wanted to help him and im glad she atleast got to tell him how it really is I was scared for her when she told Clark that he was to blame for his actions (the guy got a knife babes) but the fact that is what actually got through to him in letting her go felt so well done
Its not clear if she will or wont die by the end because thats part of the cliffhanger, but i feel that the institution or whatever it is thing will keep her alive if there ever is a sequel!
If thats the case im really into the idea of switching main characters and she is already such a great one that i adored seeing on screen <33
