To everyone who likes jonadio Have a nice day and a cookie it's absolutely shit to face dumb hate in the tag everyday
Question to Jonathan x Dio shippers
No matter how much I try, I will never find Jonadio not disgusting. I will always think of the rampant psychological and physical abuse that Dio inflicted on Jonathan. To think that there could have been a sexual tension between them sickens me because of the massive power imbalance and awful things that Dio did to Jonathan.
So, I guess my question to the shippers is : how do you get past this to enjoy shipping them? I do not intend to antagonize or shame you in your ships : I simply want to ask you why and how, despite the psychological and physical abuse, you ship them sexually/romantically?
So since you want an answer so badly I’ll give some:
- Because it’s fun
- Because it’s fictional and can be explored canonically or fanonically though AUs and the like and changed
- Because people don’t always have to give reasons why they like something
There’s such a thing as acknowledging canon and enjoying things outside of it.
And since you really push the abuse button: I’m an abuse survivor. Physical and psychological, my whole life. If I don’t find a problem with it then why is there such a huge issue about fictional abuse and not real abuse.
Also saying it’s disgusting is antagonizing even though you say it’s not so choose your words carefully and pick your tags carefully before shoving this where we all don’t wanna see it.
Next time you cry wolf about fictional “abuse”, think about the actual goddamn abuse victims and not people who just don’t like to see characters together and can’t turn their cheek away.
I’m sorry. I should have chosen my words more carefully as too not antagonise you and other shippers. Even though I am an abuse survivor too, it’s not a excuse to be inconsiderate of other people’s feelings.
I am really sorry.
I wasn't going to answer this because I truly felt like doing it was a waste of time bcause since from the start of at the ship a lot of people like calling it disgusting yet putting a pretense of "haha I don't want to antagonize with you guys :)" so explaining you something we don't really owe to you a proper explanation with this rude wording feels completely counter-productive. But since dead-wolfwood already gave a good answer I'll also point out another thing: you and every other person who goes into the tag to spew hate (when isn't the bullshit incest Discourse) repeats exhaustingly something that is easily explainable: It's part of Jonathan's character to get past Dio's abuse and retaliate in their start of their seven years. The core of the Joestar spirit represented by Jonathan is to not give up that is being able to stand up again after falling down. The ship goes past the typical hero/villain trope a lot of people are fan of because they have this history together and because one shaped the other. Dio's evilness and competition shaped jonathan the gentleman he wanted to be and the warrior he was known and praised even after death. Dio himself is much more complex than the simple "asshole vampire with a god complex who wants to ruin everything" villain because Araki accidentally gave him a depth with his backstory. He went from simply wanting to destroy his foster family to be rich to openly praise jonathan in the boat scene when he was nothing more than a decapitated head because of Jonathan's doing. As much as simple phantom blood plot-wise is, jonathan and dio's relationship is complex and not shallow at all. And I'm only pointing out a few reasons why I like this ship. But I guess you like everyone else who has been openly vocal about their hate here on Tumblr didn't really read phantom blood past "Dio is the big mean adopted brother who bullied jonathan and burned his dog and kissed his girlfriend" part. (Really, try to follow the tag and /search for one week. It's impossible to not find at least one hate post there. We're tired of people policing what we like on a fictional scapegoat level and you're not helping.)
