Both of their allies made it out, so why did they feel so sick? They didn't think any of the contestants would... actually die. Well, they knew that, but!

"Gh…"

Was this the lord's way of punishing them? By making them witness what happened to sinners, to make good again?

"M-Miss Stella—" the kid snapped out of it with a bolt, swiftly scanning the area. Where'd she go? They shouldn't get too attached, but—

"Um, Miss Stella? Lydia?"

"I'm over here kiddo," Lydia says, her voice cracking.

{Thats not loud enough. I need to be louder.}

[She stands up, picking her jacket up. She wipes her face dry with her arm and smoothes her voice over, to a degree.]

"I'm over here, kiddo," she repeats. "I know that was scary, I'm safe and alive. You're safe and alive. Bones is safe and alive. I'm here."

She doesn't spot Auggie just yet, but she continues to speak, hoping he'll hear her.

"I know you might be thinking it's your fault. I promise you it isn't. You're not a bad person for surviving. You have no responsibility in other people dying, I promise you."

[Lydia knows why she's saying this. She's saying this because she needs to remind herself of that, too, so Auggie might be thinking something similar.]

“ L-Lydia? ”

As she raised her voice, they caught wind of where she was, quickly rushing over there. They came to a halt before they approached, wiping any sign of tears off their face. They weren't a coward, they weren't!

They quickly moved to get away from the platform that lifted them, and the railings—moving to where they heard her voice. Looking down at the height if they fell made them feel sick.

“ I didn't think… even if it isn't anyone's fault, s-sailor and the others may have sinned, but no one deserves that, right? I sinned too, do I deserve that? I don't think you do, no way— ”

They begun to ramble, but shut up as she stood. Nobody wanted to hear that after what happened.

But, what if this was the last time they ever talked? They didn't even get to say anything to the others before they bit it!

“ I… ”

"Nobody here deserves to die like that. I know you don't, I don't, and I promise you that this show isn't how people should be treated. It's torture used for entertainment. Nobody, especially kids, deserve to go through this."

[She pauses, before sitting down again.]

"It's okay to talk about it. If anything, it's healthy to let it out of your system. Like holy shit, that was terrifying, I'd be worried if you didn't seem upset at all.

"It's not bad to be vulnerable. You aren't weak for talking about how you feel and you aren't weak for crying or anything like that.

"I love you, kiddo. You're like my baby brother. I want to be here for you."

[Lydia takes a deep breath. It's unsteady, but not very noticeable.]

"We're okay. Talk to me and let your feelings run it's course."

“ But if we don't deserve that then— what? ”

They didn't fall to sit down with her, only staring at her like she'd grown a second head, forgetting anything she had said. With the way he was staring at her, you'd have thought she killed his family.

“ What are you talking about? Baby brother? You kidding? ”

A sudden voice shot out through the air, the young contestant scurrying across the floor, interrupting the woman's train of thought.

“ Miss Stella !! ”

Auggie exclaimed, running up to her and tugging at her sleeve.

“ This is highly important, come, come ! Look what I found in the bar ! ”

[She stands up, looking concerned]

"Oh jeez, are you okay?? I'm coming, what's going on???"

“ Very, very important, c'mon ! ”

They tugged on her, dragging her away across the court and into The Hanged Man bar. No alcohol had been poured yet, so it didn't reek like most bars. But putting nooses near criminals probably wasn't the best idea.

“ Over there ! ”

They pointed to a curtained booth next to the serving area.

“ Don't you see that vent?? It's open ! I hear some noise! ”

[Lydia eyes the nooses- she seems wary of them, like they might be a trap or something.]

"Yeah, you're right. That's weird."

{Or not. Who knows what's in the vents. It could be a contestant, it could just be a rat, it could be anything.}

[She walks over and looks into the vent. It's hard to make anything out, and the way the lights are dim in the bar isn't helping. At least there's no florescent lights.]

"Yeah kid, I can't tell what's in there. Do you have a flashlight or anything?"

“ Uhh… I have a scent thing! ”

Auggie added, as if it would be helpful, eyeing her as her gaze lingered on the nooses.

“ But nooo, I don't have a flashlight… ugh, there's only LED lights in here! ”

They huffed frustratedly, going to hop up on the plush couch in order to peek into the vent. They reached out and tugged on the metal. Loose, but not so loose they could pull it out.

"What's your charm thingy?? Could it be helpful?"

"It's alright, don't worry about it."

[Lydia fidgets a little, trying to come up with a solution]

"Amp cords, unfortunately. I don't know if that would even be helpful in this situation, not gonna lie. How does your scent thing work? It might be helpful if it can like, detect people or something."

“ Uhhh, nahh, I don't think so? I dunno! All it does is stink up the place, but I guess these things are supposed to be useful? I mean, what do amp cords help with either? ”

Auggie huffed, questioning how true the 'helpfulness' was. Still standing on the couch, they clicked the incense off their belt, standing on their tippy toes to hold it up to the vent. All it really did was stink up the place with a twine scent.

“ Mannn… lame! Maybe it's not that big of a deal. I swear I heard people talking, it was probably employees! Maybe there's something around this place that could get this thing open, it's kinda loose... ”

[Lydia sighs. She's sitting down and staring at the wall of the fountain. She's tired.]

“ Miss Stella !! ”

Auggie exclaimed, running up to her and tugging at her sleeve.

"And yeah, I used to be in a band before I got myself arrested, thank you. My name's Lydia. What's yours?"

“ Well it's like, cardboard fuzzy something but still! ”

Auggie huffed, talking with their hands.

“ A band, huh? You look like one of the people I'd see in a music venue back where I lived. I'm Auggie! ”

"Interesting. And yeah!! I probably played somewhere near there, me and the others like to drive around and do local shows and stuff."

[She waves]

"It's nice to meet you!"

The child pretended to think, which was shortlived.

“ You're a rockstar, huh? Did you know latin for rockstar is petra stella? That's a good name, I'll call you Miss Petra! ”

"I think I like Stella a bit more though, if that's okay. My old science teacher was named Petra, and she was such a pain to deal with. She once told my class "Sometimes I fantasize about putting arsenic in chocolate chip cookies and feeding them to you guys."
