Zidane smiled wryly. “Yeah, I’ve heard she’s been real gung-ho about it all, but I don’t think they mind. She was real worried about me after Iifa too, but in the end her heart’s in the right place.”
He tugged on her hand gently, leading her towards the new buildings where the genomes resided. “Let’s go.”
Zidane was quietly glad she had chosen to visit the genomes first, because he didn’t think himself ready to face the black mage cemetery… not just yet.
Even if hand-holding flustered her to no end, she tightened her gloved grip around Zidane’s. It seemed like she was the only one making such a fuss about it all. Although, she was quite elated that Zidane was too oblivious to notice.
Once inside, Garnet took in the view. Everything was just as it were before; as if the place resisted any change at all. A smile tugged at the queen’s lips followed by a soft chuckle. “They’ve really come far, haven’t they?” She turned to face the blonde. “I’m glad. They have a place here.”
Zidane too took in the familar view of the wooden huts, the trees, the timid mages scuttling around... it was so peaceful. The genomes had found a place they belonged, and slowly, they and the black mages were becoming introduced to the rest of the world, and accepted for who they were, and not as the tools for war they once were.
“Yeah... it’s really, really, good.” He nodded slowly, taking it all in. He felt Dagger’s tension around his hand loosen, like she was hesitant to hold his hand. Was it his imagination? He loosened his grip then, and felt her hand slip from his. “Hey... you can explore by yourself, if you want?” He asked tentatively, suddenly unsure of himself and feeling self-conscious.
