In context: He was objecting to statistics in a presentation about police interactions with trans people, showing that LGTBQ people are more likely to encounter police violence, saying heās never seen/noticed this [so therefore itās not real], and another (female) officer saidĀ āItās because of your while male privilegeā and he threw a temper tantrum, and now sheās suspended.Ā
So basically the police are going through diversity training as a formality, and if thereās any learning happening, youāre policing wrong.
You can shoot and kill a black man, but if you correct a white man you get suspended.

Once my friend Henry was accused of wearing wireless headphones by a substitute so she said for him to hand them over so he took them off and handed them to her. Then later on she asked him a question and he didnāt respond so she said it louder and he still didnāt respond. She asked why he was not responding and he said āI canāt understand you ma'am, you took my hearing aids.ā
HOLY SHIT
one time we had a sub that was handing back papers and called my name. I asked if someone could grab it for me and she started mocking me for not even standing up. taunting me asking why I was not walking up to the front to get the paper myself.

I had a sub in English once, on presentation day. And everyone goes up and does their thing, and then its my turn. The whole time im stuttering and mixing up my words, having to stop and re-say my sentences. The rest of the class is used to this and claps. However, by the time its over, the teacher is 100% done.
Starts saying horrible thing about how im going to have to get over myĀ āfear of public speakingā and how sheās heard 8 year olds give better presentations (plus worse things but I donāt really member them). By then im in tears and on the brink of a panic attack, and then she starts telling me off for crying The rest of the class is horrified. Then this boy stands up. He never been my friend and we never really got along, but heād never bullied me. He told her in a pissed off, cold voice that in freshmen year I got a concussion and that I never really recovered from it, so all that was medical related and I couldnāt help it. Then he starts telling her off and the rest of the class joins him. Ā The teacher is mortified and tries to cover her ass, but the whole class walked out and that boy took me by the shoulders and we all walked to the principles office and told him what had happened. Lets just say she isnāt teaching anymore. Also, turns out that boy had a sister like me, who couldnāt really speak. Weāve been best friends for 8 years and iāll be his best woman at his wedding next year.Ā The moral is that Teachers, even subs, and adults shouldnāt scold kids before knowing the whole story, because shit like that can fuck up kids self-esteem for the rest of their life.Ā
When I was thirteen, I had to have spinal surgery. When my doctor said I was allowed to attend school again, he said I had to use a wheelchair when on school grounds. My first day back at school, my special-ed teacher had put up a banner in her classroom that read, āThere is no elevator to success. You must take the stairs.ā I asked what that meant regarding my wheelchair, and she gave me detention for ādisrespecting her authorityā. The next week she gave us a homework assignment to design a poster that could potentially be used as a Public Service Advertisement. On the due-date, I handed this in.
My special-ed teacher was fucking OUTRAGED. She wanted me expelled for ridiculing her authority in front of the other students. The principal proclaimed my work to be āa masterpiece of satirical geniusā and vetoed the special-ed teacherās attempt to expel me.

In my high school, study hall and in-school suspension were both in the same room. So I was in study hall one period, when in waltzes a friend of mine who was totally meant to be in English class that period. Of course, I was like āWhoa, what the hell did you do?ā And he explained that the sub for his English class that hour had berated our classmate, Chris, up and down for wearing sunglasses indoors, to which my friend replied: āBecause heās going fucking blind, you bitch!ā
I think so much of that is a truly inherent disrespect for the children theyāre supposed to be teaching. Itās certainly what I experienced from the bad teachers I had when I was growing up and these were a mixture of the full time teachers and the substitutes so familiarity or lack of it with the children is never an excuse.
Iāll add my, no where near as traumatic, but certainly symptomatic of the tales shared so far.
Iām blind in one eye and have real depth perception problems that have affected the types of sports I could play. (Oddly Hockey was fine because I was padded and protected within an inch of my life lol)Ā Ā Ā At school when we played softball or baseball I had to be the catcher when we were fielding because I was able to wear the mask and chest pad, I had some trouble seeing the white ball when it was coming at me, but I could use my padded chest to help catch it when I was the catcher.. The whole class knew this and didnāt grudge me (usually kids all want to play catcher because it was the only position that you actually got to use equipment for.)Ā
One day we had a substitute teacher and we were playing softball, we went out to the diamond and I immediately went to put on the catchers gear when he stopped me and told me he would decide who played what positions and I didnāt automatically get to play catcher. i respectfully explained the reason at which he opnely scoffed and told me to come up with a better lie than that. the ENTIRE class backed me up and everyone on my team tried to refuse to play catcher to allow me to be protected but this twit just had to prove his authority and threatened the whole class with a weekās detention. I told everyone to back down, looked him in the eye and said I should play in the outfield then, hoping that Iād be far enough out to avoid the ball and that my team mates would understand when i allowed the ball to drop rather than attempting to catch it.
The twit exerted his power again and made me play third base. On the fourth batter up it was a line drive to third and I never saw the ball before it smacked into my face and broke my nose. Blood and snot everywhere!Ā It hurt like hell and I had to go to hospital, but I got a little revenge by smearing blood and snot all over the guys white shirt before I left in the ambulance.Ā
At first the school board was going to treat it as just a fluke accident, but while I was out of commission for the week, the whole class trooped to the principals office and told the whole story and refused to actually sit in the class with this sub. Our Principal who was a really stand up guy, made sure the sub never taught again. The guy was just lucky it was in Canada and not the States or his ass would have been sued as well Iām sure.
Teachers often go on about a lack of respect from pupils, but Iāve seen a massive amount of disrespect pouring out of teachers themselves so what do they expect??
