Although originally born in the United States, Jackie Shane became famous in Toronto for her rhythm and blues performances. She was very well-known for her performances throughout the 60s. At the time, she initially presented as a gay man (often in drag), while avoiding questions about her gender, but she now identifies as a transgender woman. (x)
