saw a one piece live action character impressions post that pegged luffy as having daddy issues which is hilarious to me because luffy has, like, the opposite of daddy issues. he has daddy solutions. if you hang out with luffy long enough, your father-related angst starts to resolve. this has happened to multiple characters.

Sometimes i forget that a lot of people genuinely have no clue how insanely popular One Piece is

Like i cannot emphasize how popular it is

It has an OFFICIAL HOLIDAY IN JAPAN TO CELEBRATE IT'S SERIALIZATION. ONE PIECE DAY, JULY 22ND.

It has a world record for best selling manga series in history (that it beat ITSELF IN YEARS LATER)

It surpassed Batman, and is only just behind Superman as the best selling comic in history, and Superman has decades of history before it (starting 1938, OP started 1997), with Superman selling 600mil and OP selling 510mil copies

It's also just behind Harry Potter in sales numbers, with HP selling over 600mil

In the next decade, it is entirely possible that One Piece will become the best selling book series of all time, novel, comic, manga, or otherwise

*note: those are the most accurate sales numbers i could find, with 100% accurate sources for Superman and HP's 600mil sales hard to pin down.

as much as i’d love to learn more about zoro’s past, i think it’d be hilarious if the zoro / shimotsuki comparison was just like “wow he really looks like ryuma and ushimaru what a wild coincidence" and they just left it at that but the diable jambe / lunarian thing turned into a third backstory for sanji

Fun fact: Said to be one of the fastest species in the ocean with a maximum speed of 130km/h. Black Marlin’s body is meticulously designed to give the most powerful thrust and receive the least drag against water. Look at that crescent (lunate) caudal fin, it’s all science!
