LINKEDIN WORKSHOP - SV: LinkedIn is an extremely useful tool for people in the professional world to make connections and find employment opportunities. Temple University offers a workshop every week that helps students design their LinkedIn profile.

The world of employment is extremely competitive, so students need to make their LinkedIn profile stand out in order to get noticed by a place of employment and this workshop provides all of the important information that one needs to create a strong presence on LinkedIn.

This workshop usually meets around 1:00 in the Annenberg Hall Basement, and runs for one hour. I thoroughly suggest taking the time to visit one of these workshops to create a LinkedIn profile that employers would notice, and be comfortable hiring.

Temple Elements Festival As summer approaches and the semester comes to an end, Temple has been throwing exciting events for students such as the Temple University Elements Festival.

This festival took place on April 23rd, and it was all over campus starting at 6:00. I found out about this event through Temple University’s Instagram and Twitter accounts. There was a variety of activities near the Student Center which including bounce houses, food trucks and even a zip-line.

This event was quite enjoyable and a great way to end the semester. The activities were free, and there was a large student turnout at the beginning of the festival. If this event had been promoted better through social media and more information on this event was circulating it would have been even more successful.

Temple Senior Picnic, College of Engineering: On April 18th Temple had an event for seniors, filled with games, food and other outdoor activities. This event took place in the parking lot of the College of Engineering. The turnout for this event was quite low because of the lack of promotion, there was only about 10 people there.

There was a plethora of food and refreshments but a lack of participation. This event was still enjoyable and I would recommend it to all seniors

For a very long time there has been a void of a decent, trustworthy electronics store on campus. On April 18th, 2019, Temple University filled that void. There is a brand new electronics store inside Pearson Hall called the OWLTech Store. This store is very reminiscent to the Apple store, and will give students access to important hardware that is necessary to be a successful student.

This store features Apple products, as well as Windows and etc. During the opening ceremony of the store, items such as water bottles, lanyards, and other various forms of memorabilia were being distributed.

This store was very necessary for Temple to open because of the lack of an electronics superstore on campus that is Temple building so they offer benefits for students. Access to this type of equipment is very important.

This isn’t your grandmother’s bingo!

Once a month, the first Friday, Main Campus Program Board (MCPB) puts together BINGO night. Temple student have the chance to win cool prizes like student gear, iPads, gaming systems and much more.

Because technology develop in a straight line and is constantly changing, new technology is always being implemented. One thing college students is always going to need nowadays is a computer. Everyday in order for student to keep up in class they must be aware and utilize new technology.

For example MCPB is an event plan organization that’s constantly using social media and othe technology to make their event successful.

If your looking for a student organization to get involved with MCPB could be the way to go. They host many of the major campus events that you hear about. From Temple’s homecoming to Owlchella they plan it. But if it something that doesn’t sound like you want to join, don’t be afraid and go to their events

Campus Curlz host a Natural Hair symposium this semester. Anyone could have came bought from local black business, gain information about the hair industry and also free food was provided.

Founder’s Garden Cookout - 4/24: Temple had an event at Founder’s Garden on 4/24 where they gave away a large quantity of food to students. This event was quite crowded, and there was plenty of refreshments being distributed. I saw many of my peers in attendance.

Temple University provides excellent extra curricular events for students, and I would recommend any student visit, it is a great way to interact with your fellow students and make new friends.

Dare To Dance (D2D) presented thier showcase 6th Annual Showcase

On March 29, 2019, D2D performed at Temple’s Conwell Theather. Memebers of the dance company include from the Philly community and students from Temple.

Before the show began, audience were encouraged to record and take pictures of the dancers as well post and share the showcase. A lot the dancers friends, family and supporters came out and watch the show. They heavily engage with their audience and followers. Their social media is filled with dance workshop, upcoming events and other updates.

New media such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter are all used to be interactive with its audience by constantly producing content and information. Groups like D2D rely on the usage of the internet and computers to making sure they have an audience. If they use old media, which contents less with users, it would be harder to fill up seats and stand out.

Foundations of Study Abroad

The study abroad office: Tuttleman room 200, is the first step for students who want to learn the basics of studying abroad within their track of study. By attending the Foundations of study abroad seminar you can learn about different cultural experiences through an interactive presentation and learn firsthand how different cultures can help broadened students’ world views.

College is one of the largest investments and dedications, of YOUR time and money! Despite the cost of college, the benefits and returns on a higher education degree are reason for students to prioritize their learning ability. In order to get the ‘most’ out of college and explore the boundaries of your major, it is critical to explore around the classroom and online experience, and learn about the accommodations that Temple offer abroad. For most prospective students, studying abroad can lead to new communication and interactions with new cultures. Technological determinism has bridged your ability to choose different study abroad experiances besides those offered through Temple. Based off of your interests, you can find the most optimal connections for your study abroad program!

NET NIGHT: Fun alternatives to working out at the gym!

Every Friday temple’s Campus Rec opens the courts for anybody who wants to play volleyball, badminton and table tennis. It’s a very welcoming activity to go to, people of all levels come and play. From 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm courts are open the third floor of Person and McGonigle hall. There are no coaches, trainers or fees and its student promoted and lead. Roughly 20 to 25 people come on a given night. That being said getting more people to come calls for an update on how we use technology to be aware of activities available to us students.

Whether it’s picking up a new hobby or returning to an old one, seeking out new things to spend your time, Temple’s students, it’s crucial to use resources that are available to us. For which this event may not be on your timeline or your feed but flyers just like Net Night are posted all over campus.

DKA Philanthropy Bake Sale

Members from Temple University’s cinematic society helped to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Philadelphia. From chocolate chip cookies to glazed donuts, there was a lot of food to choose from.

Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian philosopher, proposed the idea that media technology operates the primary force in structuring human interaction. The more media we see, the more inclined our awareness comes. In order to have a successful philanthropic event, you need to have a large number of people show up and donate. Members from the organization used different forms of media technology - cell phone, computer - to interact with college students. They had to make the students aware of their event through posting on facebook, instagram, and the word of mouth. Through this technology, a large number of people were able to be reached influencing them to provide for a good cause.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Undergraduate Symposium

On April 11, Temple University undergraduate students presented their research to the community. From presentations to powerpoint, it was a busy day to see what students have been up to.

Through technology, the spectator becomes the alternative to the politically engaged. We choose what we want to see. We listen to what is being said. We visualize what is being described. Presentations from the symposium were going on all hours of the day - it was left to us which one we wanted to be the spectator for.

DKA Oscar Viewing Party

Delta Kappa Alpha, Temple University’s cinematic society, held their first annual Oscar viewing party in the SAC. People brought food to eat and cheered on their favorite nominees.

Being a film student, you learn how to create and distribute a film. From writing the script to hiring the actors, everything throughout the movie making process requires some amount of money. Robert Heilbroner, an American economist, proposed the idea that technology is driven by economics. Without the consumer, movies could not be made. There would be no money in the budget to spend. Through the technology, we provide the means for movies and television shows to exist. We pay for theater tickets, buy dvds, follow celebrities on social media, and pay for streaming services.

Next time you are watching your favorite actor win an Oscar, think how it was made possible because of you.
