Had she looked so much of an outsider that she could be picked out in a crowd? Rapunzel didnât think she stuck out so much (so what if she was old school and liked caring maps with her?) but once she looked beyond the beautiful architecture of the surrounding buildings and towards the trash littered streets and spray painted walls that it wasnât her country that made her stick out but her class. A short, blonde girl in designer shoes carrying an expensive camera did not fit into this world at all.
âOh yeah. Itâs obvious ah?â While her english wasnât terrible the stresses on the word more than hinted at her Italian roots. âBut I am okay! No worries I can find my way back to downtown.â
âOnly just a bit,â he replied with a slight grin. When it came to most visitors, Grim tended to have a bit of a mean streak, but she seemed...well, she seemed like that sort of gruffness might shatter her like a shop window that had a brick thrown through it. No, he really didnât see any sport in that sort of thing today. Perhaps, he was actually becoming, heaven forbid, friendly.
He could have easily accepted her response and walked away, but he couldnât seem to make his feet move in that direction. Either he had stepped into some cement, or he actually wanted to make sure she got back home safe. He wasnât sure which idea would be more disarming.¡âOh, can you?â he asked skeptically.¡âThen which was is back?â

Heâd managed to get away from the palace, and he was sure no one would question. The King was busy, he had finished his paperwork, and thus had time to kill. Plus, he had to feed Maugrim.Â
With him, he had taken a simple sandwich and some smoked cut meat, and moved to the outskirts of the palace gates. The aroma of the trees and grass hit his nostrils, and the Duke suppressed a sneeze as he stepped forward and deeper into the forest. Theodore frowned, and stepped away to return to the outskirts of the woodlands.
âMaugrim?â
It was the smell that caught his attention first. The sweet smell of pig and wheat mixed with the perfumes and other unnatural scents of the palace. Yes, it would seem that the Duke had not forgotten about him after all. He felt rather silly, like a brainwashed dog, but he couldnât help but wag his tail and whine as he realized the man was approaching.
Was it strange to be happy to see this man? Their relationship was a strange one, but perhaps, it was not so negative as one might think of those that damn near killed each other.
âRight on schedule,â Maugrim teased as he walked over to meet the man. âIâm not surprised. Punctuality seems to be a part of your very make up.â
I had planned to get to replies tomorrow, but I've picked up Mondays at work. Yay money but boo on using energy there instead of here. Luckily, I get off at 3, so I'll get on then ;3 -Lyka
âYou might.â âMore like he will. How am I supposed to explain something like this to someone who has probably never heard of such a thing? I should have never let Takoda talk me into thisâ Compared to a normal wolf, Circadian was on the short side. Compared to Maugrim? She felt microscopic. She screwed her eyes shut momentarily at his approach, cracked one eye open, then the other. Not dead yet? Thatâs a good start⌠right?    âC-Circadian. My name is Circadian, sir.â She watched him sit, but she remained on her feet. A nauseating wave of anxiety had her in the mindset that if she sat down, her legs might just buckle beneath her and she might not get up again.    âIâm a⌠interdimensional regulator and I was sent to investigate a reported incident. Thatâs why Iâm here.â The moment of truth? It warranted some explanation but she had insulted someoneâs intelligence by doing so unprompted before.Â
The wolfâs expression did not change as she gave her name. He wasnât going to give her an inch, especially since she was the one who had intruded upon him and not the other way around. Still, despite his otherwise stoic appearance, Maugrimâs tail twitched curiously. Circadian...he had never even heard of her spoken of before, and he liked to think that he had a fairly good idea of all the things that went on in his territory. Either she kept an extremely low profile or she couldnât have been in these lands for more than a day. Perhaps, that was something that could be answered by the rest of her explanation...
...or it would have been if her answer had not been so very peculiar. Maugrim didnât even attempt to hide his curiosity now, his ears pricked forward in interest as he tried to make sense of what was being told to him. Most of those words made perfect sense to him, but when they were placed in that order and all together he could have sworn that this stranger was speaking absolute nonsense. Maybe she was.
âIâve never heard of that,â he replied flatly, narrowing his eyes. âThe only authority in this bit of woods is me, and I would know if there was any sort of âincidentâ, so tell me, Circadian, what sort of trouble has there been to cause you to be so bold as to wander into another wolfâs territory? Iâm not in any particular need of housekeeping.â

The wolf paced anxiously at the edge of the forest, wondering if he ought to try and get closer to the castle. In his current state he was sure someone wold take aim at him, but if her were to change his form he would not know how to explain himself or his reason for revisiting this place that held unpleasant memories. Well, not all of the memories were unpleasant, but there sure had started that way. Letting out a small whine, the beast slumped down into a sit, hoping that the Duke would show up today. Maugrim had found himself suddenly craving his company.
All shall be done, but it may be harder than you think
Circadian swallowed. Getting caught had never been part of the plan. Her wolfish features stilled, unwilling to curl a lip or take a step. Stuck in neutral, she did not advance nor leave. While silently cursing herself for not hearing his approach earlier than she did, she asked him,    âWhat if I told you I did?â It wasnât her intent to sound snarky, and she certainly did not want to come off that way Reading canine body language had never been her strong suite, having had to learn from a coyote-form meridian whom had not been the best teacher.    She flicked her ears backward onto her sull with a little delay, a subtle sign of respect, but a fairly mixed message when paired with the rest of her posture. âWhy didnât anyone say anything about this in Hemlock?!â She thought, keeping her eyes on the unnamed stranger.
âI would find that very hard to believe,â Grim replied flatly, his nose still twitching with interest. After all, it wasnât often he had âcompanyâ, and even when he did it usually wasnât so unusual. This stranger smelled like a female, but beyond that...well, he really couldnât say. The fur and the fangs were there, but there was something in the way she acted that didnât seem write. Not just the signs of nervousness but just plain wrong.
Taking a few strides toward her, the large wolf made sure to hold his head high, not wanting to let her think for one moment that his guard was down. She had encroached on his land, and he had every right to be agitated with her. In fact, as far as he was concerned he was being quite gracious, having decided to talk rather than run her out right way.
âHmm...but I suppose Iâll bit,â he finally said, stopping a little ways away from her. âYouâve caught me in a good mood, so I will head you out.â Sitting back on his haunches, his eyes never left the stranger for a moment. âState your name and the business you have here. If I decide it is worthy then I shall let you pass, but if not...youâll be lucky to leave here with your tail attached.â

Grim liked to think he had a pretty damn good idea of who lived in this neighborhood and who didnât. He could spot someone from another town or even a few blocks over a mile away, but this girl...she didnât look like anyone heâd ever seen, not around here anyway. His first thought wasnât that she was a tourist since this usually wasnât the place tour kinds recommended for sight seeing, but the longer he watched her the more convinced that this girl couldnât be anything else but a tourist. âSay, you ainât from around here are ya?â he asked, taking a few steps toward her, though he made sure to maintain some distance.
