     “ what the hell did that paint brush do to you? ” he couldn’t stop himself from asking even though it was none of his business. it wasn’t good for his new start in this town, but it was a little too late to take back the words now. “ you should probably find another outlet for your frustration. ”

eyes lift to meet the stranger’s with no small amount of irritation, blue eyes narrowed at the intruder of his temper tantrum. he’d practically crushed the paintbrush against the paper, then proceeded to throw it halfway across the place. “ oh?? and what bright idea have you got?? ”

a roll of his eyes, and the hunter shoves his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket. it was just cold enough to warrant wearing it without looking like an asshole, though he didn’t really care. “you do this often, then? photography and editing?” the other might not notice it, but there was a hint of curiosity in his tone. he needed another person to film with him on his hunts… he could do it alone when uri wasn’t around, but setting up so many cameras just to have them knocked over without him knowing was ruining the effect of his work. 

oliver raises a brow, letting the camera hang from his neck loosely, placing the lens cap over the top with a snap. “ as a photographer, yes. it’s kinda my line of work. ” he takes a few moments before approaching the man, never one to pass up the possibility of commission work. there was no harm in getting his name out there at the very least. “ you lookin’ for a photographer or somethin’? ”

        doesn’t realize he’s being talked to until halfway through the other’s sentence. a shift, and the hunter looks him over long and hard for a moment before he decides to step out of the way. “sorry, i don’t mean to ruin your shot.” a sarcastic remark, but he’s got a smirk on his lips.

he snaps a few shots from different angles and perspectives, hoping that at least one does the scenery justice. the way that the sun glinted through the trees of the park was practically magical -- though oliver at this point would probably be in a bar, drinking his troubles away, the view had been too good to pass up with such a sunset. “ ‘s alright. you weren’t that close. i would’ve just cropped you out. ” he doesn’t really pay the sarcasm any mind, shrugging it off with a hint of nonchalance.

        tj knew that it was his name that had gotten him the deal in the first place and while he was still making money off the dome, he didn’t think that he could go back with all those memories playing through his mind. no, his best chance of moving on was here. “it wasn’t just me, i had some help making the place what it is. and they make food too, if you’re that hungry. just bar snacks…and i’m ramblin’ a little much, but i’m glad you chose this place instead.” he returns the grin and had to bite down on his lower lip to stop himself from saying something stupid. “as long as you want, gorgeous.” too late.

oliver can’t help but laugh again when tj begins to go off. well, at least he knew he was passionate about his job. or at least liked his own venue. but that’s certainly flirting, isn’t it? he usually has pretty good judgement with this stuff, but he finds himself kinda... second guessing. just to be sure. maybe he was just taking pity because oliver was particularly pathetic today -- except he definitely seems to be checking him out more than just keeping him company or cheering him up. “ well, i guess you’re stuck with me all night, mister. hope you don’t mind keeping a poor soul like me company. i prefer to spend my nights with someone. ”

                 it’s fairly quiet in the park, not much going on, and the photographer now out of fresh batteries for his camera. so, he had intended on simply returning to his apartment, but a certain man, seated upon a park bench catches his attention. while oliver isn’t outgoing or eager to meet new people, the man intrigues him with how at peace he appears with a pencil and worn sketchbook in front of him. curiosity tends to get the better of him.

                which is what leads him to approach, nearing the bench with caution, though not able to stop himself from peeking over his shoulder to catch a glimpse of what he was drawing. “ that’s... really amazing. ”

         working out was another distraction for thomas from how lonely he had been, he knew his body had changed from it, but he didn’t often pay attention. though he was kind of glad he could offer oliver a better pillow than he used to. that and holding him again was something he had been afraid to ask for since oliver had first hugged him the other day. “ hey hey, you’ll still get your breakfast, if you behave. ” he teased, his arm resting on oliver’s waist so he could hold him properly. thomas buried his face in oliver’s hair before speaking again. “ did i mention that i missed having you around? ”

oliver’s cheeks are tinged pink, and the brunet simply hides his face from the man, pressing his cheek to the other’s chest. “ oh, i promise i’ll behave. i’ll be very good. ”  he teases back, smiling against the fabric of thomas’s shirt. “ and yes you did. a few times, i think. ” he laughs, shaking his head as he simple relaxes into the warmth the man’s hold provided him with. it’s an odd sensation to be returning to the friendship as if nothing had changed, when in fact, many things have changed. like this odd attraction that has festered itself inside oliver or how a weird tension rested between them.

          well, at least he wasn’t told ‘ no i’m straight. ’ this time. tj had always been forward and yet he still felt those nerves in the back of his mind that told him even the shadiest guys wouldn’t want to date him. tj takes another long sip from his drink, failing quite spectacularly at hiding the way his gaze quickly roams over oliver. he huffed a small laugh at that question. “ usually i don’t get people as charming as you in here, ” though there really was no word of a lie in that. “ though honestly i’m the family fuck up and i wanted to prove i could make something of myself. they didn’t believe i could…but here i am with the second bar and three years sober…for narcotics, what d’ya know? ” his smile masked a lot of pain, but for once he was okay telling the story.

                      he feels eyes travel over his form, and his entire face transitions to a deep red, blue eyes widening marginally in surprise. well, if nothing else he knows what he wants. and oliver likes that in a man. that is, if he was flirting at all. “ well, you’re doin’ real well for yourself! i’ve seen this place packed to the door before. and the drinks are fuckin’ good. like, so good that i’d rather come here than go get dinner. ” he offers a stupid grin, taking another sip of his drink with a brow raised slightly at the man. “ anyway, do i get to keep your company the whole night? ”

          “ then i’ll make a pot when you wake up…and i could go out and get you a cuddle buddy, but i haven’t got THAT bad at it. ” though thomas had a feeling that this time it was going to be different, it had been for him ever since he had first run into oliver again. his heart playing tricks on him wasn’t fair. he nodded though and without hesitation got under the covers and lifted his arm, gesturing for oliver to come and use his chest for a pillow. “ c’mon, get over here. i’ll worry about breakfast later on. ”

                 he watches with a hint of satisfaction when thomas joins him beneath the layers of covers, curling up close when he’s offered a spot right up against him. oh. that was definitely different. while he remembers soft, warm cuddles on cold nights... well, thomas had definitely changed. while not so much mentally or personality-wise, but definitely physically. especially when he feels strong, warm arms envelop him in an embrace he never wants to leave. “ gee, all that explanation for nothing. ”

           “ and no one would ever swipe past you, believe me. ” tj can’t help the comment that left his lips, he’s a FLIRT when it comes to attractive men and he knows it. but someone who seemed this nice could do a lot better as far as tj was concerned. though not knowing about tj’s past was a plus for the former first son and he was already curious about the other man. “ well i’m glad you like my bar, oliver. and i don’t think most people realize that it’s not the eighties anymore when they put those signs up. ” he chuckled. though maybe it was just tj getting old, he would be thirty five this year and he wasn’t looking forward to it. though he couldn’t help but puff his chest up a little at this man’s good opinion.

            he takes his first sip, letting the alcohol ease his nerves as it slips down his throat, eyes showing his amusement at the man’s words. a flirt. certainly not unwelcome. maybe he’d be able to go home with a total hunk tonight. and a bar owner no less. it seemed fitting -- the bars were his second home, though maybe he’d frequent this one more often than the rest. he leans against the bar counter, facing tj with a little smirk curling upon his lips. “ so, what compelled you to go into the bar business? dealing with drunk saps like me? ”

         it’s COMPLETELY worth it when he sees the look on oliver’s face, he’s never been more glad that he agreed to move from glasgow than he is right now. oliver looked nothing short of adorable and thomas wished that he was an artist so he draw him. out of instinct, he reaches up to brush some hair out of oliver’s face. “ anything else? you didn’t mention anything about COFFEE and it looks as though you need right now. that and a punching bag named thomas ryall. ” it would seem that thomas was asking to be slapped.

             he doesn’t even flinch when soft fingers fiddle with his hair. in fact, it’s a familiar touch, and the brunet nuzzles his face into the gentle caress of the pillow again. “ coffee would be nice -- maybe instead of a punching bag you could get me a cuddle buddy or somethin’? ” he snorts, scooting the slightest bit closer to thomas. that was familiar too. they would always snuggle together. especially when oliver was a lot younger. it helped him sleep better. “ if not, do you have another blanket? ”

               “ it’s a shame, though grindr is the safer option these days…and maybe you’re smarter than the rest of us. ” the idea made tj smile and he took up the stool next to the other man, ordering his own drink, waving at one of the bartenders as he passed. tj nodded. “ turns out no one here cares a recovering addict owns a bar. ”

             at least he wasn’t swimming with sharks in DC anymore, he didn’t think that he could make it home again. offering out a hand, tj let his smile widened. “ ‘m TJ, it’s a pleasure. ” he hoped like hell the other didn’t recognize him.

            the other’s identity would remain unknown to him, besides what he’s been told. oliver was hopeless when it came to remembering, or even knowing, american political figures. “ maybe -- though i never would have guessed. ” he takes his hand with a brighter smile, shaking it lightly. “ ‘s nice to meet you. i’m oliver. and it’s a nice bar. i mean, not conventionally, but it’s got its own good feel and aesthetic to it. i like how dim the lights are... other bars have these big neon things and it burns my eyes. ”
