Ah, there you go. Pleased that he had managed to steal the ball away from her after his attempts of clawing at it, Luke smugly maneuvered it away and started quickly dribbling again. Now he was in his zone. He wasn’t a starting striker on the team for nothing, and if there was one thing that Luke knew he was great at in soccer, it was attacking. After all, it had been his job to score goals at the opponent’s net ever since he made the team ( and even before that ). With the ball in his possession and him on offence and Gwen on defence now, he was sure that if he tried a little harder he’d be able to get past her and shoot for the goal.
Not that Gwen was going to make it easy for him. If there was one thing that he was positive that the blonde girl had above him, it was ambition and drive. While Luke was made up of fiery passion that made him the boys’ team top scorer, he knew that Gwen had more drive than he did. What Gwen wanted, Gwen had to have. She was one of those people who would shoot for the stars and make sure that she got there.
Which was what made her a fun opponent to play against. Whenever they played together, it seemed like she was always pushing not only herself, but also pushing him to play harder than he was used to during training. She had that in her—that contagiousness of that drive. Even if it was only mucking around, she made him want to win so desperately, making him always give it all his best.
But he wasn’t one to show that he was getting all tense despite giving it his all. Luke Holden only played like a caged wild beast when he was angry on the field, and otherwise, no matter how into it he was, he would always try to keep his calm and make sure that he was relaxed on the field. There was no point in getting tense if he knew that it was only going to negatively affect his performance and make him restless. So he tried to not let her comment get to him, only brushing it dismissively as he lifted his hand up in a gesture that seemed to brush off the comment, a smirk making its way across his lips. “Nah, I told you,” he easily countered. “I’m gonna be making ten goals before we finish up today. So now come and get it.”
And with that, he shot past her and attempted on making a beeline for the goal.
As far as she spotted the ball, the black and white colored ball made it pass her as he kicked it. Right now all Gwen could do was only crossing her fingers--
The ball made it swiftly into the goal post. Making Luke Holden won one against her. His performance was better. Had he been practicing on his own lately? Or maybe it was the girls’ captain who’s game and overall performance had dropped recently? Her heart was on fire. She felt that she could have done better. She shouldn’t have making it easy for him. How could he goaled one in just a few minutes of their game?
Captain Murray felt e n v i o u s of Luke’s performance. She knew it wasn’t his best, yet he had already beaten her down by one.
As much as she hated losing from Luke, her loathe wasn’t as much as how she hated to see his arrogant grin plastered on his face. The fact that he was better than her really annoyed her off plus his attitude about it makes her heart pumped faster. Her veins were already boiling as she anticipated that smirk of his.
She just wanted to destroy him.
“Nice goal,” she congratulate him shortly. She still kept that Gwen-ish grin on her face, she has to. Being professional on the game is important. As it is to redeem her emotions towards her losing, it was also not to let him get the idea to provoke her even more.
Retrieving the ball back to the center of the field, she was ready to start the next game. Sweat was dripping over her head but did she care? Her determination was strong, she was sure that she should let her guard up toughly this time.
