btw I truly love how the merman episode is the only time that Hilda finds a weird creature and just fucking hates him. just does not sympathise with or try to help him at all. usually there's a point in these where she realises she did something wrong or decides the lil guy has a good reason for what they're doing but no. like all through this show I thought we were watching Hilda befriend creatures bc she’s so innately empathetic and forgiving and will go to any lengths to do right by her weird lil critter friends but actually the whole time it’s been this
