Completely agreed; The OGM is elusive and all but it does not make or break a legacy. It does not change the impact Kaori has had in the skating community. There are so many talented skaters who were not even close to a OGM, like Donovan or Madeline. And there are people who didn’t even qualify, like my favs of Yuna Aoki, Rinka, and Wakaba. I love them regardless and they’re such amazing skaters.

Would I wanted her to get the OGM? HELL YEAH, that would be the perfect conclusion to her journey.

But it doesn’t change that lovely free skate she delivered that almost brought me to tears. The world will remember Kaori Sakamoto, with or without a OGM, just because she’s such a badass. 3 olympics???? As a Japanese skater whose federation is so well developed and cutthroat??? 2 individual medals??? That’s the biggest achievement ever. She’s had such a phenomenal run.

(ESPECIALLY WOMEN’s) Figure skating has really lost the plot with the last few olympics full of just anguish and heartbreak. Jumps over skating skills and artistry. What’s the most important is that these athletes enjoy what they’re doing, and can look back at the olympics with fond memories. :))) And I think we achieved that with Milano Cortina. Thank you 2026 for being good for once.
