Love Hotel by Mariko Mori, 1994
Mariko Mori, Tea Ceremony III (1994)
Mori’s images from the mid-1990s refer to the stereotypes and restrictive atmosphere experienced by young working women. Her early work consisted of self-portraits in which she inserted herself into various environments that served to call attention to her incongruous placement in the scene. One of the best known, Tea Ceremony III (1994), featured Mori offering tea to businessmen passing by on the sidewalk, dressed in a typical ‘office lady’ uniform with the addition of a cyborg-inspired cap and tights. The men pay her no heed, despite her rather strange attire and unusual location outdoors, which Mori suggests highlights the subservient and often invisible role of women in the workplace. - Karen M. patriarchal strategies
1. transform “feminism” into a sellable commodity (something you can buy, rather than learn or do)
2. alter its meaning so it appeals to the most possible people
3. water it down to inoffensive nothingness so you can sell more of it
4. profit

i’m at work and it suddenly just started snowing again, and they’ve stopped all the bus routes here so for right now i’m stuck.
either way, here’s something i was working on, at work, that was kind of fun… so i guess it’s not so bad.
also, wow, i’m almost at 900 followers!!!! that brightens my mood about being stuck here! you all are awesome.
