Octonauts: Caribbean Chronicles

Operation Region-Locked begins now!

After a successful expedition in China, the Octonauts have taken up a new long term mission. Only this time, instead of tackling a singular country, they will be exploring an entire region. And the domain they've taken an interest in just so happens to be a diverse array of countries and territories known as the Caribbean. But in addition to their core mission to explore, rescue and protect the wildlife, the Octonauts also intend to mingle with society, striving to work with and learn from them in order to save and maintain the environment in a way that is beneficial to everyone and everything. This won't be an easy mission. Aside from natural phenomena, there are those who aren't exactly keen on the Octonauts coming in to do their thing and may try to chase them out if not rid of them entirely. But no matter what, the Octonauts remain steadfast in their pursuits.

The Octonauts are ready and eager to speak with you all. Whether it be questions related to Operation Region-Locked or even just small talk, they will answer as long as you remember to follow the rules of the blog and respect boundaries they may set up as they communicate with you.

Hi hi! This is Mod Myngxy here! Some of all also know me as Nix but to avoid confusion with my OC, I prefer to be called Myngxy on this blog. I go by She/They pronouns and as of making this blog, I am in my 20s. Welcome and thanks for visting my blog! As stated in a post on my Octonauts blog, the Octonauts are open for asks by default while the Octo-Agents will only become available when they're introduced. I'm also open for asks.

There is still clearly a lot of work to be done here and you'll see additions and changes being made as time goes on and I work on things. But I hope this turns out to be a fun experience for everyone as well as a pretty educational one.

General Info: As the venerable founder and former captain of the Octonauts, he has a deep understanding and passion for marine life. Though he tries to be as involved as possible, he must be mindful to take a step back due a head injury he got years ago. He spends most of his time in the Octopod, especially in the library. He is highly intelligent. But perhaps as a result of his age and maybe his delicate head, he tends to be spacey and forgetful from time to time.

Out of all of the Octonauts, Professor Inkling has the most opportunities to partake in his hobbies which include reading books from his expansive library, baking, furthering his studies, playing table tennis or Oceans & Orges with the others and indulging in high tea.

Due to being a dumbo octopus, he does not need a helmet or air tank whenever he goes into bodies of water. In fact, he has a better time moving whenever he has to swim. He also has the ability to squirt ink despite most dumbo octopi lacking this ability.

He is in love with Min, an old friend of his. Whenever he gets the chance, he likes spending as much time with her as possible.

Professor Inkling was born and raised in Filey, Yorkshire alongside his younger sister, Sol. Prior to founding the Octonauts, he worked as a professor in the same university Barnacles and Bianca attended. He met Min during an expedition to China where he ended up stuck clinging to bamboo after a storm and had to be rescued by her.

Every so often, he ponders about fully retiring from the Octonauts due to his shortcomings. But despite everything, he is a valued member of the crew.

General Info: Peso is the small and very kind-hearted medical officer of the Octonauts as well as the youngest member of the crew. Due to small stature and lack of upper body strength compared to the rest of the Octonauts, Peso tends to get scared easily and visibly anxious about missions that could potentially be dangerous or lead to them encountering a monster. But in spite of this, Peso is more than willing to help anyone and any animal who needs his help. Peso can also be rather shy and is always very soft-spoken.

He is a large family he loves dearly and goes out of his way to keep in touch with. He is especially close to his mother and little brother. He also looks after Rocko and Ooju from time to time.

Peso is one of two Octonauts who can pilot all of the five main Gups but he prefers to use the Gup-E most of all.

Out of all the Octonauts, Peso looks up to Captain Barnacles the most and views him as a mentor as well as a friend. He is also one of the few people Captain Barnacles confides in. Peso tends to worry about Captain Barnacles well-being much of the time due to his tendency to disregard his safety and health on order to help others.

In his free time, Peso loves to take part in his hobbies like snorkeling, practicing his instruments and dancing. And when he's not on the Octopod, he loves catching up with and spending time with his family.

General Info: Not much is not about Kwazii's past apart from the fact that his grandfather played a part in raising him and he used to be a fully fledged pirate prior to joining the Octonauts. But as a result of his upbringing, Kwazii is a natural thrill seeker, jumping at any opportunity to embark on an adventure. His excitable nature leads to him acting on impulse, which may or may not get him into trouble. He is one of the bravest Octonauts though not immune to being easily spooked.

He is naturally drawn to the Gup-B and is very territorial about it. He also loves other fast moving Gups like the Gup-R and the Terra Gup-12. But no matter what, the Gup-B will always be his favorite.

Kwazii loves to remain active when not going out on missions or embarking in adventures. He dislikes doing things that he considers boring, such as certain chores, science and other menial tasks.

He suffers from arachnophobia, a fear that may even extend to creatures that simply resemble spiders despite not actually being one.

Initially, Kwazii was uninterested in becoming an Octonaut though he loved joining them on missions due to how exciting they were. He eventually caved and begged Captain Barnacles to let him join. It took quite some time for him to earn the role of lieutenant due to his flaws being much worse when he first joined.

Kwazii has recently married Paani and is still adjusting to having a spouse. He gets along very well with his in-laws, especially Paani's parents. In fact, they just might love him a little too much.

Captain's Log Day 1

Date: June 21st Mission Type: First Contact We are currently settling down close to El Quemaito in the Barahona Province as of me writing this. Dashi and Shellington have went out to explore the sea life here. I hope that they don't get into trouble out there or stay out too late. Tweak is currently making some additions to the GUPs we plan to use on our real mission. Tomorrow, we're going to Lake Enriquillo to check on the American crocodiles. They're already a vulnerable species and we've been getting concerning reports that their numbers have dropped drastically as of late. The locals we've spoken to suggest it may be a result of poaching. Whatever the case may be, we'll have to try and put a stop to it. I've had encounters with poachers before. Their reasoning aside, they can get violent when caught and go out of their way to target anyone who can threaten their livelihoods. Truth be told, I wanted to do this mission entirely on my own. I can take a few bullets as long as I avoid getting a head shot. But the rest of the Octonauts don't have that kind of durability. I don't want them to get hurt. But at the same time, I can't stop them. All I can do now is hope that no one gets seriously wounded during this mission. And perhaps it isn't poachers after all. We've been at this for years now. They're no strangers to dangerous situations. Yet I find myself worrying about my fellow Octonauts more and more each day. Kwazii joked that I was an overprotective father to them. And I certainly can't say that he's wrong.

What happens if one of the Octonauts is lost in the Jungle? Tell me the Examples?

Captain Barnacles: "Hmm... Getting lost under any circumstances wouldn't be ideal."

Kwazii: "Aye, Captain. And jungles are especially dangerous. They're the perfect environment for all sorts of monsters to thrive."

Peso: "Monsters...?"

Captain Barnacles: "They are dangerous, yes. But I doubt it's because of any monsters. It's much harder for any of us to get lost now that we have Octo-Watches. They help us keep track of each other at all times. But in the event that they end up not working and an Octonaut gets lost, they should know critical survival skills to help them get by until we can find them."

Kwazii: "Well, I know all about surviving in jungles. Me granddad taught me everything this pirate needed to know."

Peso: "And everyone else learned from the Captain."

Captain Barnacles: "That's right, Peso. In addition to survival skills, we all have unique traits that may help us in these situations. Dashi, for example, is a scent hound and can use her sense of smell to either find someone or find her way back to us. It's the same thing with Tweak with her sense of hearing and so on and so fourth."

Peso: "And we tend to do a good job at finding each other too. So I suppose we don't have to worry too much about getting lost in jungles."

Nix is my main Octonauts OC, so I'm always throwing her into any AU I make.

She's gonna have a different design for Caribbean Chronicles, so here are other designs of her just to get a general idea of what she looks like.

You will see that Nix design once she's ready to make her debut.

Nix specializes in pathology, necropsy, and basically anything that has to do with handling death when it comes to animals, anthropoids, and even humans (encountering humans in this AU is rare, though.)

So, if an animal were to die, especially in instances where the Octonauts can't tell how and/or why it passed on, Nix will help them figure it out.

Stuff like that goes a long way when investigating seemingly mysterious diseases, instances of pollution, or even animal cruelty.

General Info: Barnacles is the brave and diligent captain of the Octonauts. He is dedicated to his work, always organizing missions for him and his crew as well being the first to rush in and help whenever there's a problem. Barnacles is usually one of if not the most level-headed of the Octonauts and has a knack for solving problems even in the heat of the moment. Due to his love for weightlifting and the fact that he is a polar bear, he is the strongest member of the Octonauts, often demonstrating what he affectionately calls "Polar Bear Strength" on many occasions.

When he is not going on adventures, Barnacles enjoys exercising, building model ships, writing in his Captain's log, singing and playing the accordion despite his inability to play it well. He also has a talent for art, a skill he only displays on rare occasions.

Though usually brave, he is currently in the process of trying to get over his claustrophobia, a fear he developed as a cub.

He alongside his twin sister, Bianca, were born and raised in the United Arctic Kingdom by their mother, grandfather and Professor Natquik in the absence of their father. Barnacles used to be a Polar Scout, often leading the way when they would set out on adventures.

When he joined the Octonauts, he initially served as the lieutenant up until Professor Inkling got a head injury that made him unable to carry his work as captain. Ever since then, Barnacles has been serving as the captain and working to expand the Octonauts beyond what it was originally founded for.

He plays an active role in his niece and nephew's lives, often trying to help them earn their Polar Scout badges. Though he and his sister are very close, he isn't too fond of his brother-in-law, Nowell. He also dislikes his dad and prefers to stay clear of him. Barnacles is married to Nix and is Nisha's step-father. When he is not on the Octopod or out on a mission, is in Trinidad with his wife and step-child.

Detailed Text Only Profile Maaaaaan, making this profile for him proved to be an absolute pain! I had to jump between the currect version of MS Paint and MS Paint Classic due to both having unique problems to them! Like, for some reason, even though I have the Octonauts font installed on my laptop, it just doesn't work on the new MS Paint. And then Classic Paint doesn't have the convenience of being able to just add a color's code to get it. Not to mention that the new MS Paint adds pixels even when you save it in a format that should prevent that all together!

So I'm obviously gonna make this profile into a template to minimize the problems.

There are some obvious formatting issue, I'm sure. But I'm not gonna fix them. I'm too tired...

Info/Rules

General Info

This is an Octonauts ask blog that takes place in AU. It is very heavily inspired by my general AU for Octonauts, which is a mixture of canon material and my own headcanons. This blog will have mature themes compared to the official material. So expect things like swearing, violence, death and other generally touchy subjects. I also want to deal with flora and fauna in a more realistic way compared to the show so feral animals won't be anthropomorphized and will be treated with more nuance. Not to mention, I will try to keep up to date with information regarding anything I feature weather it be locations, animals, etc. Though with how much new things we learn every day, I won't be surprised with I end up with my own Blobfish Brothers situation in due time. I am just Octonauts fan and not an expert on these things, after all. As of right now, I will only allow friends to add OCs to this AU. I'm unsure if that will change in the future since if someones wants to add an OC, ideally I'd want to add them as a mod so they can have full control over their own character. And I would rather give that to people I can fully trust because I've seen people in this fandom overstep and cause problems when given the opportunity. The Octonauts and the Caribbean Octo-Agents are the main focus of this blog. That being said, others characters like family members, friends and other Octo-Agents will probably show up. But please keep in mind that they are only supporting characters unless I decide to give them a bigger role in any particular adventure. And as a result, asks for them will be limited compared to the main characters. Also, you probably got the impression based on the pinned post. Yes, this blog is going to have antagonist. They range from folks who aren't malicious but are doing something wrong to outright awful individuals who don't care how their actions affect others. And finally, let's talk about shipping because not only is it a big part of my personal fandom experience but a large chunk of this fandom is also very much into shipping. I absolutely get it. But I do have ships that are canon to this AU. There are also characters who aren't in any romantic relationships. Here is a list of pairings canon to this AU: 1. Captain Barnacles x Nix 2. I am open to suggestions. But that won't mean I will follow that suggestion, especially if its just you trying to force my blog to cater to you. So please be constructive and respectful.

No spam please. There may be instances of me taking a while to answer an ask whether it be me figuring out how to answer in-character and/or adding an illustration to the ask if I decide. I may also just outright delete asks, especially if they break guidelines. Don't harass me for not answering fast enough or outright refusing your ask.

Do not use this blog to advertise yourself. While I am very open to people sharing headcanons and even art, it rubs me the wrong way to be used. You have your own blog. Post and interact with the community if you want people to engage with your work. Don't leech off other creators.

No explicit asks please. This may be a blog with mature subjects but not an outright NSFW one.

No roleplay. You can only interact with the characters through asks and maybe occasionally I'll have them reply to comments and reblogs.

While shipping is a big part of this AU, I would like it if we stayed focused on the main story. I don't want to get bombarded with too many asks about any particular pairing. Feel free to ask characters about their relationships but otherwise, I have full power over the shipping fuel I decide to add.

Fanart and submissions are welcome. That being said, it has to be related to the Caribbean Chronicles AU. The Octonauts have designs unique to my AUs and I also have OCs. This ties into the self-advertisement rule but don't drop general Octonauts fanart and expect me to post it. An exception to this rule may be instances if you showing your art to the characters but I am side eyeing this hardcore and may still reject the ask if something doesn't feel right.

No bigotry! While the more villainous characters may display awful behavior, that doesn't give you a free card to be terrible. So if I see any LGBT+ discrimination, racism or any other bad behavior, it is on sight. And I think that's it for now. I may add more info to the guidelines as well as more rules as I see fit.
