I haven’t posted in a while, but I just wanted to wish you a happy new year! My new year’s eve and 2017 were pretty awesome! Last night we went over to a friend’s house to have dinner with friends and we listened to beautiful music (which was overcast by my hideous singing voice). This year I traveled to the USA for my work to visit GDC (I’ve never been out of Europe), I got my driver’s license, I’m living together with my boyfriend in an actual apartment and I finally found almdudler (my favorite drink ever) in Germany! What a great year! I didn’t get to draw a lot for my self, but I hope I get to do more work in 2018. Hopefully your year was great as well, if not, I hope 2018 will be your year :). Cheers!

The calm, creative Nielson is more than just a young, regular guy. A couple nights a month, he transforms into Salem Reed, an extravagant, fierce queen who glows with self-confidence. We’re going to look for the identity of two opposite personalities. Because who is Salem and who is Nielson? Who do they see whenever they look in the mirror? Where’s the dividing line between these two completely different characters? And what’s there to learn from each other?

Salem Reed: A documentary

“When you become the image of your own imagination, it’s the most powerful thing you could ever do.”

Dear Tumblr, Claire here! I’m thrilled to announce to you that I am  going to graduate as a documentary director this year. Along with my lifelong friend Carmen, who is going to graduate as an animator, I am creating a film about a beautiful drag queen. But I won’t just make a film about her. I’ll be making a film about the person behind her as well: Nielson and his drag-persona Salem Reed are the stars of this documentary, which will be a harmonious mix of both ‘classic’ film and 2D animation. The calm, creative Nielson is more than just a young, regular guy. A couple nights a month, he transforms into Salem Reed, an extravagant, fierce queen who glows with self-confidence. She’s the exact opposite of Nielson, who struggles with depression.  We’re going to look for the identity of two opposite personalities. Because who is Salem and who is Nielson? Who do they see whenever they look in the mirror? Where’s the dividing line between these two completely different characters? And what’s there to learn from each other?  For as long as I can remember, I’ve been intrigued by the topic identity. Around my eleventh birthday, I started focussing on my own identity, self-confidence and the way I came across to other people. It all happened in an almost obsessive kind of manner. Whenever I looked in the mirror, I felt everything but happy. It has taken me a while before I finally won this fight with myself and was able to feel strong and comfortable in my own skin. Drag queens take the words identity and self-confidence to a whole new level. The transformation of a man to a queen is more than just putting on some lipstick and stepping into a pair of killer heels. They become a completely different person with a new identity. A new personality. They get a moment to flee to another character and with that, get a break from being themselves. I find that fascinating.  I want you to start wondering: are you really the person you want to be?  Check the teaser here:
