you work 5 days a week for 8 hours at a very intense job with multiple skills required. you have 5 minutes to grab all of your very heavy tools and navigate to the opposite end of the building when you change shifts. you get a single 30 minute lunch. you have to exercise, regardless of illness, neurodivergence or disability for an hour and you don't get to choose what you do. you have hours of the same work to do at home. also if you fuck any of this up, or do it the wrong way, or stop showing up, you will be punished and your caretakers could go to jail.
maybe you have the choice to do this all at home. the only difference is that you don't have to transport as much. so you're stuck in one spot, alone, head down, working like you usually would otherwise.

The environmental damage point is just so unserious. The impact AI has on the environment is overblown. And it's easy and convenient to appeal to ecology when expecting others to give up something YOU personally don't need or want anyway.
Use cases? To name one - it talked someone I care about out of suicide, when I physically couldn't be there and nobody else was available. That's already "worth it" enough for me.
I support others using AI as a coping mechanism. If it keeps you alive, that's nothing to be ashamed over.
I have an issue with people using it to make stuff that's completely unnecessary and would be better if a human did it, like fanfic or art. Have you seen what it's like to live near an AI database?
