Seriously anyone engaging with age verification bill discourse in terms of whether or not you think age restricting content is good or bad are completely missing the point.
These bills have nothing to do with keeping young people from doing certain things or protecting the children or whatever. Their point is and always has been one thing: If your operating system knows who you are it is impossible to have any real form of privacy on the computer.
Thats it, thats the whole thing. They want to link your every single usage of computers to your real world identity, and like they have been doing for all of time, they are hiding under the guise of protecting the children.

Solarpunk has failed. It's time for the Solar Gothic. Show me an environmentally conscious world that is haunted by its past; where its failures still intrude upon the present. Where the characters live in the shadow of a decadent but much more materially wealthy past whose crumbling edifices mock them with the waste and the missed opportunities they represent. Show me characters who remember the promise of modernity, the story of ever-growing progress, and either lament that it is not for them or continue to cling to it like madmen. Show me a world that's trapped, claustrophobically, in an anthropocene that they are only gradually learning to manage, and where all former illusions of mastery or permanence have been dispelled.

i always thought “indie animation” meant weird shit that would never get made by a studio and not “cartoon network with less money”
notable examples of "indie animation" on Wikipedia include;
The Secret of NIMH
The Brave Little Toaster
Hoodwinked!
Barnyard (the one that got a Nickelodeon show)
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
Tomm More's Irish Folklore trilogy (The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, and Wolfwalkers)
and of course, classic independent film Spirited Away
all "indie" means in terms of art (indie rock, indie film, indie publishing, etc) is that it was released without a major label, studio, publisher, distributor, etc. one of the highest-grossing indie films of all time is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990). Radiohead's "In Rainbows", several BTS albums, and the official soundtrack to The Lion King are all independent albums that hit #1 on the Billboard top-200.
sorry(ish) for being a pedantic ass but it annoys me a lot when people act like "indie" is some kind of quality marker and not, like, a literal description of how it was released.
NEVER KILL YOURSELF
openin’ the door to the microwave one second early because you don’t need all the hootin’ and hollerin’
I'D LOVE TO ELABORATE because this is one of my favorite astronomy stories.
Okay. So in the field of Radio Astronomy, there's this phenomenon called a "fast radio burst", a very short, strong radio pulse picked up by a radio telescope. They're still poorly understood, and are considered very exciting to radio astronomers because of how rare they are.
In the 2010's, astronomers working at Australia's Parkes Radio Observatory identified a number of radio signals picked up by the telescope that appeared to resemble fast radio bursts, which they called Perytons.
However, they quickly realized that the signals had to be terrestrial in origin due to the strength of the signal.... as well as the fact that they always occurred during weekdays, around the same time.
The signals tended to be clustered around midday... hmm...
Further evidence that the signals were man-made... this trend also followed daylight savings!!!
(Unless aliens also follow Australian daylight savings conventions, which is highly unlikely...)
It took the astronomers several years, but they eventually tracked down the source to a microwave oven in the facility's break room.
They were unable to recreate the signal, until they tried opening the microwave door before it beeped. Turns out the microwave was letting out a tiny amount of radio emissions when the door opened, which the nearby telescope was sensitive enough to detect.
The Peryton signals had been popping up in the data for over a decade, presumably because astronomers taking their lunch breaks had been opening the break room microwave prematurely for the same reason cited by OP.
I imagine they must have a big sign reading "LET THE MICROWAVE FINISH BEFORE OPENING" hanging in the break room now.
TLDR: If you work in radio astronomy, let the microwave beep before opening it and removing your lunch.
(PS: I highly recommend reading the paper explaining the origin of Perytons, it's short and also pretty entertaining.)
