First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.
--- Martin Niemöller
Donald Trump is a monster. His words are filled with hate and bigotry, and I find him to be abhorrent and repulsive. His supporters call him brave, but that is not bravery -- that is fear and anger. When I watch footage of him and his rallies, I see his followers shouting, jeering. I marvel when I see his supporters, particularly those are ethnic minorities. I think to myself, “You think he won’t come for you next?” When I see his female supporters, I think, “He will come for us too.”
No one is safe if Donald Trump is named the Republican nominee.
I will be going to New York next week, and Washington in May. Should Trump be named President, those will likely be the last times I’m allowed into the United States. I am so grateful to be Canadian.
