I read about this awhile ago in a book.

People who receive organ donations go through personality changes and characteristic similar to those of the donor. 

 In a study, a patient received a heart transplant from a man who was killed by gunshot to the face, and the organ recipient then reported to have dreams of seeing hot flashes of light directly on his face.

In another case, Claire Sylvia, a heart transplant recipient who received the organ from an 18-year-old male that died in a motorcycle accident, reported having a craving for beer and chicken nuggets after the surgery.

She also began to have reoccurring dreams about a man named ‘Tim L.’ Upon searching the obituaries, Sylvia found out her donor’s name was Tim and that he loved all of the food that she craved

These cases may support the cell memory theory. But as someone who wants to study the human consciousness, I have this one question.

What does this say about the human mind? Is it only stored in the brain? Can our cells also have the capacity to store information such as memory and personality? Are they aware of what makes us, who we are? Are they conscious in that sense?

Listen, I’m friends with people that disagree with me on a lot of things. I’m friends with people who have AWFUL opinions! Some of my friends think Drake is the GOAT, some of them think green grapes are edible, some of them think Chris Brown makes more than 3 types of songs, but it’s a difference between disagreeing on things that don’t matter and disagreeing on values and principles

I couldn’t be friends with folks who ask “what did she do?” in response to domestic violence allegations. I couldn’t be friends with folks okay with caging migrant children. I couldn’t be friends with folks who twist their religion to support their bigotry. It’s a fucking difference. If you and I disagree about whether a group of people deserve equal rights, then we can’t be fucking friends.

No there’s definitely something wrong with someone’s way of thinking if they can justify killing innocent people, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they have a mental illness.

Extremist beliefs isn’t a mental illness.

Bigotry isn’t a mental illness.

Entitlement isn’t a mental illness.

Hate isn’t a mental illness.

Having a dysfunctional moral compass isn’t a mental illness.

We need to stop categorizing all these things as some undefinable “mental illness” and start looking at what we do as a society to develop and justify these things to a degree where people use them to justify killing.

Dehumanization is something you Have to look for. If the murderer doesn’t see the person they killed as a person, then mental illness is probably not the main factor there. 

Plenty of people murder women, poc, lgbt people, people of other religions etc. because they don’t see them as people.

Think about genocides - they aren’t perpetrated by big group of people/a government who all got mentally ill together the same way at the same time somehow, they just didn’t consider what they did murder because they didn’t see the victims as people.
