ok but what if thanos and namgyu meeting when they're younger when namgyu has just started working at club pentagon and subong still hasn't quite made it as thanos yet and they kind of fall in love with each other but neither of them ever want to admit it and even when namgyu does admit it subong rejects him because he's still deep in denial about his bisexuality and feelings for namgyu and has commitment issues and so they fizzle apart, subong stops coming to club pentagon but that's fine because as thanos takes off he's able to get into more exclusive clubs anyways. the last time they see each other is the night where they're standing outside club pentagon and namgyu is asking subong to please, stop trying to pretend that you don't care about me but subong is too scared to stop, and he leaves namgyu standing outside the club and leaves whatever relationship they had begun to build behind as well.
at least, that was what subong thought would be their last time seeing each other.
until several several several years later, when they've grown and matured and moved on (at least, so they think), and subong has made a name for himself in the music industry as thanos and has gotten out of the debt from his youth and has gotten much better at ignoring it whenever he feels attraction towards a man and has even met a beautiful woman to help combat all that attraction- a woman who he's been dating for the past few years and decided on a drunken whim one night to propose to her. it wasn't exactly part of his plan, marrying her... he hadn't even had a ring when he stumbled down onto one knee and asked her to marry him, and he'd been a little confused the next morning when they had woken up and his girlfriend was taking about marriage and a wedding and being fiancés... but subong kinda just goes along with it. after all, he's almost 40, he's been dating his girlfriend for a while now, his mother won't stop nagging him about grandchildren..... this is what he's supposed to do, isn't it? the next step in his life that he's supposed to take?
so he goes along with it. the wedding planning, the marriage preparations. he doesn't have too much involvement, really, his girlfriend- fiancé, he forces the correction on himself, because he still isn't really used to saying it- is more into all that stuff than he is. really, the only part of the whole thing that he has much say in is his own bachelor party, which he decides to throw the very night before his wedding. and even so, he doesn't do much planning for it- he gathers some of his friends and tells them to take him out for a fucking crazy night, and they do. they drag the groom-to-be all throughout the city, stopping at several clubs and bars and giving subong the good time he'd asked for.
it was all going great. until subong gets dragged into one specific club- club pentagon, and sees a familiar face behind the bar.
a part of subong still can't believe that namgyu is still working here after all these years, and yet... there he is. he's grown his hair out a little more, down to his shoulders now, in a style that suits him well. he's ditched the glasses, too, which gives subong a direct view of the eyes he'd once upon a time stared into as they filled with tears... because of him and his rejection. namgyu looks a little healthier, too; subong wonders if he'd finally quit heroin, like he had promised subong he would one day.
subong's friends drag him over to the bar, announcing to the place that their friend here is "getting married tomorrow!", cheering and celebrating and ordering another round of drinks. but subong isn't part of the celebrations this time. this time, all he can do is stare at the man across the bar...
the man he shouldn't have let go all those years ago, but that he did. the man he had tried to convince himself he wasn't in love with, but has always been. the man he should be with instead of the woman waiting for him at home in his bed.
the man who is staring back at subong with anger, resentment, and disappointment. the man whose heart subong had broke all those years ago, and that still hasn't healed.
the man who subong's heart broke for, too. the man who subong's heart wants... but can't have. because it's too late. subong is getting married tomorrow... and it's not to namgyu. it never would be.
because it's too late for them.
