Carter hadn’t spoken much during their drive out of Harbor Falls, unless it was to tell Kit to change the radio from the obnoxious pop station she’d put it on. The only acceptable music in his car was classical, and ​that was it.​ Then his phone went off and the second he glanced at it, his features darkened, a mild scowl contorting his features as he snatched it up to text whoever it was back. “Brooke is an idiot,” he said as he slammed the phone back into the center console.

Kit felt sick to her stomach. Literally. Sick. She thought she was going to throw up for sure, but so far, she'd only asked Carter to pull over once. The moving car didn't help much. She had her head leaned against a window, and her eyes closed, but as they sped away from Harbor Falls, she could already feel herself starting to get better. She opened her eyes and looked over at Carter's phone when it went off. She frowned when his expression changed. "Don't text and drive," she fussed, like she was his mother. Her brow furrowed. "What happened?"

Carter shot her a glare when she told him to stop texting and driving, "I've been driving since cars were first invented. I've got this. And she poisoned Aria." The sign on the highway told them the next motel was about thirty more miles away and he squeezed the wheel in an attempt to release some of his irritation, "You think we're far enough away to camp here? How are you feeling?" If he was being honest, he was hoping she was feeling well enough that the scent of cigarillo smoke wouldn't bother her. He wanted a smoke. ​And​ a nice glass of scotch. Still, he didn't mind helping Kit all that much. She'd been a good friend to Charlie, and with the four of them being the only Amet's in Harbor Falls before the list was released, a certain amount of bonding had taken place.

Kit raised an eyebrow. "So you know how dangerous it is to drive when you're distracted!" she said. She paused and considered his question about how she was feeling, taking mental stock. "Better," she said after a moment. "Still a little icky, but better than before." She wasn't used to getting sick. It was new territory for her, and she was fairly well and convinced that this ​stomach bug​ was actually akin to death. "What was Aria doing with Brooke?" she asked. She didn't ask the question she was ​thinking​.

Carter ignored her statement about driving, the frown faded from his expression when she said she was feeling better. Though it wasn't exactly the answer he wanted to hear, since based on what she said, they'd need to drive further than just the thirty miles it was to the next motel. "I don't know. Aria just said she went to scare her. Your brother asked me if she was in town, so I assume he went to her about you, and he worked out some deal with her." Carter shrugged then rolled his head back and forth to try to release some of the tension in his shoulders. He needed to get out of this car. He needed to punch someone square in the jaw. ​After​ he got that glass of scotch.

Kit groaned and leaned her head back against the window. "Harley's an idiot," she sighed. "This is all my fault, isn't it?" she asked. "I couldn't just let Brooke get her anger out, I had to talk back to her, I had to say something, and now Aria's sick, and you're mad, and she's ​probably​ gonna make my brother do something horrible in payment, because she's kind of horrible. No offense." She sighed. "I just wanted her to like me. I'm so stupid."

Carter rolled his eyes and shook his head at her question, "It isn't your fault. It's Brooke's. She should think before she acts. And she should act like an ​adult​. I don't care how long we're alive, the lot of them should know better." Then Kit continued on about Aria, and what could he say? He wasn't any better, was he? And even if he was, he knew everything Kit was saying was probably true. "I'll see to it Harley is fine. I'm sure he'll see to it too." That was it. He couldn't wait any longer. He pressed the button on his armrest to lower the window, then plucked a cigarillo from the center console, "I'm smoking. And to hell with making anyone like you, especially someone as selfish as her."

Your sister... the Hunter’s got to her. She has no abilities. They said they’d be coming for the rest of us. So she left with Harley and Adam, just in case. I couldn’t have him around Katima. And now I need you and Katima to go somewhere safe. If you don’t want to leave... at least go somewhere else. Somewhere not our house - where they don’t know they’d find you. I’m... going on my own little hunting trip. See if I can’t stop some of them before they get too close.
