After Junior year was a struggle for me. My best friend moved to a different state, and I was all alone facing the world by myself. One day, this girl was singing “Closer,” and I started singing with her. We bonded over this song, and that day I was glad that I met her because she is weird, just like me. She helped me through my senior year and made it fun instead of stressful. We studied together, had fun together, stressed together, cried together, complained about workload together, and most importantly, we graduated together. Every day with her, I feel like we were getting closer and closer. Thanks, Sanaa, for being there for me <3.

This song plays a big part in my life because it helps me get through the rough times and bad thoughts that I have. I always listen to this song before my meets (race) because I was in cross country and track and field. This song made me realize that we are champions, and there is nothing that can stop us. My favorite part of the song is “We got that trophy like a champion” because our team is the greatest, and we like to show everyone that we are champion by showing off our team trophies and medals. Special thanks to my teammates for the handwork and coaches for the time they spent training us to be champions.

Teamwork makes the dream work

Whenever Sanaa and I went to karaoke, we have to sing this song at least once. This is one of our favorite songs to sing because it is easy to sing. The tempo of the song is slow at the beginning, but it gets faster towards the end. We’d scream the lyrics and dance on the table and jump on the couch at the karaoke place. Sometimes I’d put this song on and listen to it when I’m bored. It reminds me of the good time we had together because we’re 3 hours away from each other.

Right after I broke up with my girlfriend, I listened to this song every day for almost a month. Even though this song is sad but I’m glad that I listened to it. I always yelled, “I guessed I kinda liked the way you helped my escape” because the relationship that we were in was not going well. In the end, I was glad that we broke up because I found someone who treated me better and treated me for who I am. It hurts to listen to this song, but I learn not to put my “guards down.”

After my break up, I was down. I couldn’t do anything because I was sad and depressed all the time. Until I listened to this song and fell in love. The message of this song is about rising and be stronger than before. The reason I love this song is that it is slow at the beginning and gets faster. The part “you can rise,” always hit me because I remember to rise and be strong. This song and my friends helped me get through this sad time.

Around February is when senioritis kicked in. I was struggling to get all of my work in and couldn’t study because I was excited to graduate. My grades were starting to reflect on my actions. So I decided to shut everything out and focus on my school work. This song made me feel like an adult because, as an adult, they have responsibilities, and they focus on one thing until they complete it. The part when it says “I get my way, get out of my way” to me means focusing on one thing and block everything that is trying to get in my way.

This was one in the lifetime event. High school prom. I had the greatest time with my prom date and friends. We had so many problems that night because everyone was late, driver canceled on us, and many more. It was stressful, but my prom date and my group made that night magical. Before the night was over, seniors gather together at the center of the dance floor and start singing, “Tonight we are young, so let’s set the world on fire.” It was an emotional night because our senior year was almost over. In about a month, we're leaving each other to move on. Every time I listen to this song, I still remember that night. That was the best night I’ve ever had. Thank you, class of 2019, for making it magical and unforgettable.

The week after graduation, I had a little trip with one of my best friends, Sanaa, and we put this song on repeat and never get tired of listening to it for the 1000th time. We love this song because it is upbeat, country, and a great song to play during a long car ride. We always rolled the window down and stuck our heads out when the part “rolled my windows down and cruise.” I had a lot of memories with this song because this song brought us even closer than before. From driving to a lake in the middle of the night, to doing stuff that almost got us killed, but it was all worth it. She made it fun because my senior year was stressful.
