Before I say anything, Cerbera's character and universe will often deal with slightly meta elements and loss of control. If you find the concept of predetermined events (and defying those events), existentialism, issues of identity, physical control of a character's body and actions and potentially more in any way uncomfortable, I encourage you to either avoid this blog or avoid posts tagged with #tw meta or #tw loss of control.
If you're thinking about staying: welcome! My name is Keriah, and I'm the mun behind this roleplay blog. I'm a young adult with a special interest in Pokémon (and many other regular interests). I use any and all pronouns with no particular preference. You can find my main blog at @keriah!
Although I myself am an adult, my muse is not! Suggestive jokes are fine, but anything delving into deep nsfw territory will not be allowed here. I will also actively avoid asks or content involving heavy gore and intense and/or descriptive abuse against people and Pokémon.
In character hate, Pelipper mail, Musharna mail / malice, union circles and roleplay interactions are always welcome! Any blogs may interact! I may be particular about Pelipper malice, but feel free to shoot your shot! I'll likely be picky with magic Anons as well (generally, low stakes or joke asks should be fine in moderation).
Keep in mind this may be updated in the future! If you've read all the way through, thank you!
HEY GUYS REMEMBER when I SAID that I HOPE NOTHING CRAZY HAPPENS in KITAKAMI
[IMAGE ID: A photo taken inside of an unfamiliar bedroom. The image is focused in Vanda the Pecharunt, who's floating above the neatly made bed. In their tiny hands, Vanda holds a Love Ball, seeming to curiously inspect it. It seems like Pecharunt didn't realize the camera was there when the photo was taken.]
THIS is VANDA ☝️ and EVEN THOUGH they're a LITTLE SHIT they're OFFICIALLY ONE of MY POKÉMON 🙄 we've been BICKERING A BIT but even with EVERYTHING that HAPPENED I CAN'T STAY MAD at them FOREVER
VANDA is KINDA LIKE OLEANDER in the WAY that THEY DON'T GET ALONG with SOME OF my TEAM or it ISN'T VERY CONVENIENT for me to CONSTANTLY HAVE them AROUND but I ALSO CAN'T RELEASE THEM back into THE WILD for SAFETY REASONS
BUT the LOYAL THREE were MAJOR TROUBLEMAKERS and DIDN'T GET ALONG with SOME OF my TEAM EITHER 🤔 and with THEM they're STILL TECHNICALLY REGISTERED to ME they just SPEND a LOT OF TIME helping out the PEOPLE in MOSSUI TOWN after they WERE ENTRUSTED to THE COMMUNITY
MAYBE the SAME THING could WORK with OLEANDER and VANDA 🙂☝️💡 THEY CAN still HANG OUT with ME and the TEAM but they'll be SEPERATE ENOUGH that there WON'T be CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS, THEY'LL get even MORE HELP from OTHER PEOPLE, and THEY'LL be SAFE and NOT RUNNING AROUND and CAUSING some BULLSHIT
MAYBE I could SHARE my PC ACCESS with some of MY CLOSEST PALS❓️ IT'D be HELPFUL if I EVER NEED to TRAVEL AGAIN TOO ✈️🌎‼️
[The video begins within Kitakami's Loyalty Plaza, showing Cerbera and Kieran quickly running into frame. Near the destroyed monument of the Loyal Three stands Nemona, back turned to the pair. As soon as they see her, both Trainers are brought to a sudden halt, standing in the wide open center of the plaza.
“Nemona?! Thank goodness you're OK…” Kieran sighs in relief at the sight of her. However, as they attempt to take a step forward to approach, Cerbera suddenly grabs their shoulder to stop them. Kieran looks back in confusion, until Nemona, still silent, slowly begins to turn around.
“Mochi MOCHI!!!” Suddenly, Nemona breaks out into dance, lifting her elbows and flapping her arms. Cerbera and Kieran both tense up and cringe at the sight, met with striking purple eyes and a smile that's far too enthusiastic, even for someone like Nemona.
“I shoulda figured!” Kieran startles back, making sure to stand near Cerbera for protection and support.
“That little shit…” Cerbera hisses, rapidly looking around the immediate area. Seemingly, she's searching for that strange Pokémon from earlier on. “I swear, when I get my hands on it…”
“Mochi… mochi… MATCH!”
The shouting from Nemona is enough to break even Cerbera out of their frustration and panic. Both Kieran and Cerbera stare in confusion, before exchanging a glance with one another, as if silently wondering if they had both heard the same thing.
“Did she just say ‘match’?” Kieran lowers his voice a bit, as if trying to avoid Nemona hearing.
“... Yup.”
“Guess even the mochi couldn't override her battle mania-completely…” Kieran sighs, almost seeming like he's not even surprised by the information. Suddenly, a familiar looking Pokémon floats out from behind the rubble of the Loyal Three monument and moves to hover behind Nemona.
“There it is!” Cerbera shouts, already grabbing a Poké Ball, looking ready to teach the Pokémon a lesson.
“Aw man, it's got control of Nemona… There's no way I can hold her off…” Kieran frowns in disappointment, looking towards Cerbera for help.
“You don't have to worry about that. I've beaten her before, and I'll sure as hell do it again.” Cerbera steps forward, watching Nemona carefully as he does. “You just focus on–”
Suddenly, Cerbera's directions are interrupted by loud shouting. Slowly, a large crowd of familiar townspeople begin to walk into frame, gathering near the entrance to the plaza. Each one is cloaked in a familiar dark aura, all performing the same synchronized dance, with Arven and Penny near the front of the group. Cerbera and Kieran have turned around to observe, eyes wide at the amount of people gathered.
“This is bad! Everybody from Mossui Town is coming here!” Kieran looks to Cerbera, already reaching to grab one of his Poké Balls in preparation.
“Hijo de puta… Think you can watch my back for me?” Cerbera asks, to which Kieran responds with a quick nod. Then, without warning, Cerbera cups both hands near their mouth and begins shouting with all of their might.
“LUPINE! MONSTERA! NARCISSUS! GET YOUR ASSES OVER HERE!”
Kieran jumps at the sudden volume from Cerbera, looking at her as if she had just sprouted a second head. However, before long, rapid, thundering footsteps are heard. The hulking frame of a Pokémon suddenly leaps straight off of the nearby cliff, landing in front of Kieran and Cerbera with a loud thump.
Lupine the Okidogi faces the crowd, looking confused before he raises up both paws in a defensive gesture. Monstera the Munkidori, having hitched a ride on Lupine's back, jumps down to stand beside his companion. The last Pokémon on the scene is Narcissus the Fezandipiti, the Pokémon soaring down from above to hover on the opposite side of Lupine.
“Wha–?! The Loyal Three?!” Kieran's eyes practically bulge out of his head at the sight, repeatedly looking between Cerbera and the three Legendaries. The nefarious Pokémon hovering near Nemona looks even more shocked, shouting out a cry of surprise and confusion.
“Yup.” Cerbera gives Kieran a thumbs-up and a grin, momentarily amused by his reactions. “They still owe us a couple favors. They'll help you hold back the townspeople if things start getting dicey.” Then, he turns back towards Nemona and the peach-like Pokémon.
“R-right!” Kieran looks up towards the three Pokémon, giving them a sheepish grin as he does. “Alright, Cerbera, you know what to do! Do your best with Nemona and… whatever that thing is! Maybe everyone'll go back to normal if you beat it!”
Cerbera nods in response. They don't have to be told twice, as they quickly rush over towards Nemona, who's been dancing the entire time. “Mochi match! MOCHI MATCH!!!” Nemona shouts, before sending out her trusty Lycanroc. “Mochi! L-let's… have… mochiful match!” She grins, even as Lycanroc gives her trainer a confused side-eye.
“For your sake, you better be hoping that Nemona wins!” Cerbera narrows his eyes at the Pokémon controlling his friend. Then, without wasting anymore time, he sends out Snapdragon the Skeledirge.
Immediately, Lycanroc barrels towards the Fire Type, hitting Snapdragon with a strong Drill Run attack. Although heavily damaged, Snapdragon manages to strike back with a strong Earth Power. Unfortunately, though Lycanroc staggers from the super-effective damage, she remains standing long enough to hit Snapdragon with a Stone Edge and take him out.
Cerbera grimaces as the peach Pokémon cackles and giggles in twisted amusement. He grabs his next Poké Ball, quickly sending out Pyrus the Hydrapple. When Lycanroc attempts to hit the dragon with another Stone Edge, Pyrus retreats back into his apple to dodge the attack and strike back with an Energy Ball. Suddenly, Lycanroc is thrown backwards, unable to continue.
As Nemona opts to switch in Goodra next, Cerbera recalls Pyrus and sends out Fiddleneck the Farigiraf. Both Pokémon exchange moves, with Goodra using Dragon Pulse attacks and Fiddleneck striking back with Dazzling Gleams. Although Goodra does manage to take out Fiddleneck, it's at low enough health that Lilium the Annihilape is able to switch in and take it out with a Drain Punch.
As soon as Nemona's Pawmot hits the field, it begins gathering electricity within its orange fur, before releasing it in the form of a strong Double Shock attack. Lilium manages to shake off the damage, but as he rushes forward and hits Pawmot with a Drain Punch, the opposing Fighting Type uppercuts Lilium with an Ice Punch. As Lilium is thrown back, ice slowly begins to crawl across his body, until he's rendered immobilized on the ground.
“You've gotta be shitting me…” Cerbera grumbles, ignoring the sound of what they assume to be Narcissus giggling in the background. After Cerbera tosses a Full Restore towards their Pokémon, Pawmot continues to hit Lilium with a barrage of Ice Punch attacks. However, Lilium manages to pick himself back up, and after nailing Pawmot with two more Drain Punches, he's the Pokémon left standing while Pawmot is returned to its Poké Ball.
When Nemona sends out her Kommo-o, Cerbera's eyes widen at the unexpected Pokémon, before he sends out his own Dragon Type, Pyrus. After being hit by a Drain Punch, Pyrus shoots out draconic energy from the jaw of his main head, hitting Kommo-o with a Dragon Pulse that nearly takes it out in one hit. Even when Kommo-o hits Pyrus with another Drain Punch, it isn't enough to defeat Pyrus, and he strikes back with another Dragon Pulse that sends Kommo-o flying back into the dirt.
With Kommo-o unable to continue battling, Nemona sends in her next Pokémon, a Milotic. The large serpentine is quick to attack, sending Pyrus down with an Ice Beam that hits both of his typings for super-effective damage. As Cerbera sends out Lycoris the Basculegion, he winces, likely knowing that he's on the ropes.
Milotic hits Lycoris with a Surf, and Lycoris hits Milotic back with a Psychic Fangs attack. After another Surf from Milotic, Lycoris disappears from sight to avoid his opponent's next Surf attack. After suddenly reappearing behind Milotic, he hits it with a Phantom Force, and it's that move that manages to take out the fellow Water Type.
As Meowscarada switches in for Milotic and Lilium switches in for Lycoris, Cerbera begins to tense. She watches as Nemona reaches for her Tera Orb, and lifts it upwards to allow it to charge. As soon as the Tera Orb is launched forward, Meowscarada begins to Terastallize. However, unlike from previous battles, this time, Meowscarada is quick to Terastallize into the Dark Type, something that catches Cerbera off guard.
A super-effective Play Rough from Meowscarada is enough to send Lilium back into his Poké Ball, and with no other options left, Cerbera is forced to send out Lycoris the Basculegion. However, instead of commanding an attack, Cerbera begins reaching into her bag.
“Alright, buddy, you'll have to give me an opening so I can get Snapdragon out here!” Cerbera shouts, and after receiving a nod from their companion, they take out a Max Revive to use on their fallen Skeledirge.
Lycoris is taken out by a Thunder Punch, but Cerbera has already regained his footing. As he sends out the newly revitalized Snapdragon, he reaches for his very own Tera Orb, supercharged from his time in Area Zero. “Alright, Snappy, let's get rid of your weakness pal!” He grins, before throwing his Tera Orb out towards Snapdragon.
The Pokémon lets out a mighty roar as Tera crystals begin to coat his scales, crystals sprouting up from his head to form a Fire Type Tera Crown. After Meowscarada uses a Shadow Claw that's now no longer super-effective, Snapdragon strikes back with an attack of his own, a powerful Torch Song that causes Meowscarada to hiss and bat its paws at the flames.
Meowscarada attempts to take down its opponent with a Flower Trick, but it doesn't do quite enough damage. With one last Torch Song, Nemona is finally defeated, and by the skin of Cerbera's teeth.
“Mochi… skills, mochi…” Even with her defeat, Nemona smiles, twirling a strand of hair between her fingers. However, Pecharunt doesn't look even remotely as pleased as Nemona does. It moves to float in front of her, crying out in shock at the sight of its strongest puppet having been felled.
“Nowhere left to hide, buddy!” Cerbera sneers, shoving a hand in their bag to grab a new Poké Ball and extra healing items. Cerbera quickly cycles through their team, healing each one as Pecharunt looks around for a way out, trying to escape the Trainer's wrath.
However, before the Pokémon can float off, Cerbera launches a Poké Ball forward. Suddenly, a large shadow covers Pecharunt as Scilla the Chien-Pao emerges, letting out a mighty roar that splits through the night air. Even Kieran and the Loyal Three, still occupied with keeping the large crowd of townspeople at bay, briefly turn to look and see what's happening.
“Ruination!”
As soon as Cerbera shouts the command, the ground below begins to tremble. Small pebbles jump up and shake from the force, and even Kieran has to steady himself to make sure he doesn't fall over completely. Suddenly, an outpouring of Dark Type energy bursts from the earth beneath Pecharunt, hitting the Legendary for super-effective damage.
Pecharunt cries out in protest, and with Scilla's sudden attack, the battle begins. Pecharunt fires off a Toxic, inflicting its Pokémon with a strong poison. However, as soon as the poison takes effect, Pecharunt's eyes glow, and Scilla staggers in confusion. Instead of hitting Pecharunt, Scilla hits itself with its own Dark Type energy, growling in annoyance as it does.
After two Nasty Plots and Scilla hitting itself in confusion again, Cerbera runs out of patience, tossing Scilla a Full Restore to cure if of its confusion and its poison damage. Taking the opportunity to attack, Pecharunt gathers spectral energy in between its tiny hands, before it speeds through the air and hits Scilla head on.
As Scilla shakes off the damage, it lets out a roar, summoning enough energy to hit Pecharunt with another Ruination attack. Although Scilla faints from its opponent's next Shadow Ball, it's already done plenty of damage with two strong, super-effective attacks.
However, Cerbera does struggle for a few moments. With its boosted attack stat, Pecharunt is able to take out Pyrus with a single Malignant Chain, and Lycoris with a single Shadow Ball. Even so, Cerbera isn't ready to back down. He grabs his next Poké Ball, and as his starter Pokémon, Snapdragon, hits the field, Cerbera reaches for their Tera Orb for the second time.
“Your ass is grass, shithead!” Cerbera grins, using Pecharunt's weakened state as an opportunity to Terastallize Snapdragon into a pure Fire Type once again. Even after having just fought in and Terastallized in the previous battle against Nemona, Snapdragon's flames burn just as brightly as they had before.
Pecharunt sends off another Shadow Ball in an attempt to dispose of Cerbera's only chance of winning. However, even though Snapdragon is hit hard… he remains standing. “Shadow Ball! Show ‘em who's boss, mejor!” At Cerbera's demand, Snapdragon gives a curt, confident nod. Gradually, Ghost Type energy begins to gather between his jaws, until its power reaches a fever pitch.
With a sudden burst of energy, the attack bursts forward, hitting Pecharunt square in the face and landing a critical hit. The Pokémon falls back, landing in the dirt and sliding closer towards Nemona's feet. At the sound of Pecharunt's defeat, Kieran quickly turns around towards where Cerbera is standing.
“Look– it's slowing down! Now's your chance! Catch it in a Poké Ball!” Kieran hollers. Cerbera squints, whipping her head around in confusion.
“You want me to catch that thing?!”
“Wh– yes! Right now! Before it runs off to cause trouble again!”
Cerbera suddenly turns their head back to Pecharunt, only to see it attempting to get back up. In a panic, they fish through their bag, and throw the first Poké Ball they can get their hands on. The Love Ball sails through the air, and hits its target perfectly. The Pokémon is sucked inside of the ball, and after three shakes, the ball lays still in the dirt.
“D-did you get it?!” Kieran gasps, watching the Poké Ball carefully to see whether or not the Pokémon within would break out. “Then everybody else should be–!” They turn right back around, moving to stand in front of the Loyal Three and look over the crowd.
Slowly, the strange aura begins to lift off of each individual and dissipate into the air. Each member of the crowd gradually begins to come to, shaking their heads and murmuring in confusion. Arven and Penny look around in confusion, and as soon as they notice the Loyal Three standing before them, they both shout in surprise and panic.
“Woah, hey! It's OK! They're here to help.” Kieran quickly lifts his hands up in a placating gesture. Although Arven and Penny still regard the Pokémon with some suspicion, the rest of the townspeople seem rather happy to see the group.
“Look! It's the Loyal Three!”
“Wait, but what are they doing here?”
“What are WE doing here?”
Amidst the group's murmuring, Cerbera is quick to rush back over towards Kieran and the others. At the sight of Arven and Penny without a purple hue in their eyes, Cerbera instantly runs up to them both. Before Arven can react, Cerbera brings him into a tight hug.
“Woah! Hello to you too, little buddy!” Arven's eyes widen in surprise, before he smiles and returns the hug. “The last thing I remember is getting to the shop… What happened?!” As soon as Cerbera pulls away from the hug, he grabs their shoulders, looking between them and Kieran with obvious confusion.
“Aw, jeez…” Kieran sighs, scratching the back of his head, clearly trying to think of the best way to describe everything that had happened. “Well, first, after you and Penny ate that mochi… well, you fell under that Pokémon's control. Started doing that weird dance and everything.”
At the realization, Arven and Penny exchange incredulous looks. “You mean I had to do that stupid chicken dance?!” Penny whines, lifting her hands up to try and hide her face behind her hands. “Oh my god, that is, like, beyond embarrassing…”
“Tell me about it!” Arven complains, though he does smile when he learns a laugh from Cerbera. Even Kieran quietly giggles before they continue their explanation.
“Then, after me an’ Cerbera tailed that Pokémon, Cerbera had to battle Nemona… you and that big crowd showed up too, so me and the Loyal Three had to hold you guys back.” At their recognition, the Loyal Three chuckle and pose dramatically. “When Cerbera beat Nemona, she had to fight the Pokémon itself… she won, and when she caught it, that's when you all turned back to normal.”
“Yeah, that's… pretty much what happened. Thanks, Kieran.” Cerbera grins, beginning to appear as if an enormous weight has been lifted off of their shoulders now that the situation is resolved.
“Seriously? So all that ‘mochi mochi’ stuff was because of some Pokémon?” Arven furrows his brows, seeming entirely unamused by the notion.
“Wait, it WAS a Pokémon? See? SEE?! I told you it was real! Unlike dumb horror movie tropes like curses! That round little monster was behind everything! Just like I said!” Penny exclaims, gesturing with her hands as she speaks. Arven, who looks reluctant to admit defeat, just sighs and averts his eyes.
“Errr… When did you say that?”
“Oh, don't even start with me!”
Arven is obviously trying not to laugh as he ignores Penny and focuses on Cerbera and Kieran. “Anyway, Cerbera went and caught the thing. As she does.” He smiles, looking relieved… and a little conflicted.
“She sure did!” Kieran agrees with a laugh.
Suddenly, Arven's eyes widen in realization. “Wait… Nemona! You mentioned Nemona! Where is she?!” He gasps, turning around to see if he can try and spot her amongst the crowd.
“Shit– you're right!” Cerbera's expression floods with panic, and even some guilt at having nearly forgotten about her rival. He immediately turns tail, running back over to meet up with Nemona, who hasn't moved from her previous position. Without much hesitation, Kieran, Arven and Penny are quick to follow after him.
“Nemona! Nemona, are you okay?!” Cerbera runs straight up to her, grabbing her shoulders and gently shaking. Nemona groans, struggling to open her eyes for several moments.
“Mochi MATCH!!!” She yells, raising her elbows and flapping her arms up and down. Cerbera, shocked, instantly recoils. The entire group suddenly looks a mix between panicked and confused.
“Gah! The curse wasn't lifted?!” Penny gasps, making sure to hide behind Cerbera and the others.
"I thought you said it WASN'T a curse!" Arven exclaims, looking between Penny and Nemona.
"Well, what else am I supposed to call it?!"
However, before long, Nemona's eyes open. Instead of purple, they're a familiar looking orange, and instead of a wide smile, Nemona looks confused. “Huh? What's going on? Did we find the remote?” She looks around at the unfamiliar area, and raises an eyebrow when she sees the expressions of her friends.
“THAT'S what you want to know?!” Arven groans in frustration. However, although he looks a little irritated, more than anything he looks incredibly relieved to see that Nemona has her autonomy intact. “Sheesh. Glad you're back to normal now, at least.”
“Nemona!” Cerbera laughs, leaning in to give her friend a hug, just as she had done with Arven. Nemona instantly brightens, picking up Cerbera and spinning her around. “Fucking hell, you scared the shit out of me! Don't do that again!” Cerbera complains, though there's still a grin on her face as Nemona sets her back down.
“Sorry, sorry!” Nemona giggles. “Y'know, I had this crazy realistic dream that I was battling you! It was awesome! Sign me up to have that dream again!” She confesses, bringing a finger up to her chin as she thinks back on her ‘dream’.
“That's because you did battle me, dumbass!” Cerbera laughs, gently punching his rival in the shoulder as he does. “You almost beat me, too! Since when did you get a Kommo-o and Milotic?!”
“What?! I did?!” Nemona's eyes widen in shock. “And I missed it completely? We have GOT to battle again to make up for it, you hear?!” She demands, her expression completely serious despite her frankly amusing words.
“N-Nemona really is…”
“Something? Yup. Sure is.” Penny finishes Kieran's sentence for him, nodding in agreement with the sentiment.
“Kiki! And… Cerbera?!” Suddenly, a new voice is heard over the footage. Carmine breaks through the crowd, rushing over towards her brother and their friends. Behind her, Yukito and Hideko follow, though at a much slower pace.
“Sis! Gramps! Grandma!” Kieran gasps, running up to his sister to engulf her in a hug. Carmine takes a moment to return the gesture, before she forcefully pulls him away to look down at her brother with narrowed eyes.
“What the heck is going on?! Why is everyone up here?! Why are THEY here?!” Carmine barks, pointing back towards the Loyal Three, each member giving smug smiles in response. “Someone better start explaining!” She grumbles. Though, after a moment, she pauses. She looks down at her brother, noticing the beginnings of relieved tears in his eyes.
“Actually… Huh. What a weird feeling…” Slowly, a soft smile appears on Carmine's face. “Somehow it feels like… I'm seeing you for the first time in ages.” She confesses, before she reaches out to bring her little brother into another hug. As the group gathers together and begins to discuss, the video ends.]
[The video begins in Mossui Town, showing Arven and Penny gathered on the empty road in front of Peachy's. Before long, Cerbera is seen sprinting straight up to them, with Kieran attempting to follow as fast as he can. “Arven! Penny!” Kieran shouts as Cerbera skids to a halt to stand near their friends protectively and scout for danger.
“There you guys are!” Arven gives Kieran a wide smile, though it does flicker a bit when he notices how riled up Cerbera has become.
“You.” Cerbera grumbles, looking both relieved and frustrated by the sight of both Arven and Penny looking perfectly fine. She points a finger, tapping Arven's chest. “What happened? Where's the townspeople? Where's the thing?” She demands, already reaching for one of her Poké Balls.
“Ah… Yeah…” Arven laughs nervously, rubbing the back of his neck with a hand. “I'm really sorry about hanging up on you like that. Probably gave you the wrong impression.” His shoulders slump in disappointment at having worried his friend, before he looks towards Penny.
“It was all Penny's fault.” He points with a thumb, earning a shocked, almost offended look from Penny herself. “She went into full panic mode and ran smack into me. With her head. So I dropped my phone.” Arven admits, a bit of audible embarrassment in his voice as he recalls what had really happened.
With a sigh, Cerbera slowly shakes their head. Now, they just seem more exasperated rather than frustrated and worried. Penny, noticing their reaction, springs up to defend herself. “Can you blame me?! Look at the people in this town! Something's seriously wrong with them! Never mind whatever that weird THING was!” Penny shouts, voice squeaking a bit as she does.
“‘Weird thing'? Is that what Penny was yellin’ about over the phone? What did it look like?” Kieran blinks, looking between the group in confusion.
“It was, like, round and little… and WEIRD!” Penny exclaims, waving her hands wildly, as if to prove her point. Arven, however, just scoffs and shakes his head.
“And just where is this little hallucination of yours?” He asks, turning his body about to look around with an exaggerated gesture. “You sure you weren't just seeing stuff?” He turns back to Penny, arms crossed as he questions them. At the accusation, Penny huffs, attempting to stand up straighter.
“It was real!!! I really saw it!” Penny shoots back, only growing more frustrated when Arven just shakes his head again.
“Sure you did…” Arven sighs.
“Well, it couldn't have been nothing at all if it's got Penny so freaked out.” Cerbera chimes in with his own input, still looking around. “Even if it really is nothing, we should still be on the lookout. We've still got to get to the bottom of why all this shit is happening.” He reasons.
“Thank you! At least somebody here believes me!” Penny replies, shooting Arven a pointed look as they do.
“... I think I might have figured out why everyone is acting so strange.” Kieran speaks up, taking a moment to think things over. “Until we know for sure, though, maybe we should all be careful around any weird mo–”
“Whoa! Heads up, guys!!! There's something up there!” Arven suddenly shouts out, interrupting Kieran's train of thought. Kieran nearly jumps out of their skin, while Cerbera is quick to follow Arven's gaze and grip his Poké Ball even tighter. “Look! Up there!” Arven points upwards, towards the top of the small building that makes up Peachy's.
The camera takes a moment to focus, but after a moment, it's clear that there's a strange, purple shape floating mid-air. Two small, beady eyes sit in its pitch black center as it observes the group closely, almost seeming to scrutinize them.
“That's the thing I saw earlier!” Penny gasps in recognition, adjusting their glasses to try and get a better look at it. “Is it… a drone?” They question, trying to identify what on earth it could be.
“No… I think it's a Pokémon?” Arven shakes his head, not taking his eyes off of the strange creature. Kieran, meanwhile, looks just as shocked as the rest of the group, and Cerbera is practically bristling, ready to intervene if necessary.
Suddenly, faster than any of the Trainers can react, the Pokémon's eyes suddenly spark with a dangerous purple glow. Its small shell quickly opens up, revealing a small, purple Pokémon with a long wisp of spectral energy trailing behind its head. More importantly, both inner halves of its shell light up, and a familiar looking Mochi spits out of them.
The food sails through the air, heading straight towards Arven, Penny, Cerbera and Kieran. With Arven and Penny's mouths open, still surprised and speaking, the mochi flies straight in. Before either of them can properly process what's happening, both automatically close their mouths to chew the strange substance.
Cerbera, meanwhile, suddenly dodges out of the way right as the mochi is about to hit them. They stare in shock, as if they hadn't expected themselves to move so suddenly. Unfortunately for the floating, purple Pokémon, the last portion of mochi misses Kieran's mouth completely, instead bouncing right off of his forehead and landing on the ground beneath his feet.
“Huh? Is this mochi?” Arven continues to experimentally chew, unaware of the horrified looks that both Kieran and Cerbera share just a few feet behind him.
“It's… kinda sweet. I like it.” Penny nods her head, and as they both swallow their respective portions of mochi, the Pokémon above them cackles mischievously.
“No, wait! Don't eat those!” Kieran shouts helplessly. Cerbera, meanwhile, despite looking like they wish to act, remain firmly planted where they stand, eyes wide.
“Whoa! What–?!” Arven looks down, slowly beginning to lift his hand. Already, it begins to radiate a strange, purple aura, almost akin to some sort of sickly sweet fog. Penny gasps in confusion, looking down at her own hands that have begun to share a familiar glow.
“You two… OK?” Kieran reaches his hands out, slowly shuffling closer towards Cerbera to stand beside him. At the sight of his new friends suddenly affected by the same predicament plaguing the townspeople, Kieran's expression is quick to turn to one of panic and upset.
“Mochi MOCHI!!!” Both Arven and Penny suddenly twist their bodies around, shouting in unison and breaking out into that strange, familiar dance. Their glowing eyes cause Cerbera's expression to twist, fingers twitching against their Poké Ball. Now, more clearly than ever, they look truly frightened.
“Mochi… MOCHI!!!”
“Mochee MOCHEE!!!”
Both Penny and Arven slowly approach, with the strange Pokémon, now concealed within its shell, floating ominously behind them. “¡Carajo… Arven! You still in there?!” Cerbera makes a frustrated gesture with their hands, seemingly trying to stifle their rising panic. As they try to search Arven's unnaturally purple eyes for any sign of him, the boy tilts his head away and averts his gaze.
“Mo… Mochichi!”
“Huh? Is Arven… embarrassed?” Kieran's panic briefly gives way to confusion at the sight. However, they quickly shake their head, trying to get themselves to refocus. “But more importantly– I'm so sorry! If only I'd managed to warn them in time…” Kieran quickly flashes Cerbera an apologetic look, but they're only met with them shaking their own head.
“Not your fault. I, just…” Cerbera tries to take a deep breath, before he practically snarls and bares his teeth at the small Pokémon puppeteering them. “We need to catch that little fucking shitbird of a Pokémon.” He points directly at it. In response, the Pokémon looks both ways, before realizing that Cerbera was indeed referring to it as a ‘shitbird’.
Kieran's eyes widen at the insult, and he turns his head towards Cerbera with a surprised expression. However, once again, he shakes his head, and tries to focus back on the confrontation. “Right! If the weird mochi came from that thing, it must be able to reverse everything too!” Kieran agrees.
However, as the Pokémon cries out a command, Arven and Penny shuffle back to stand in front of it. “Hey, no fair! That jerk's using them as a shield!” Kieran grumbles, though it's obvious that their frustration doesn't burn as brightly as Cerbera's. “We've gotta find some way to get the two of them to calm down…”
“Send out your Pokémon!” Cerbera shouts, launching her Poké Ball forward before anyone else has the chance. Kieran nearly jumps back as Lycoris the Basculegion enters the field, letting out a piercing cry as the mochi Pokémon commands Arven and Penny to send out their own Pokémon.
“I, uh– yes ma'am!” Kieran quickly nods his head, fumbling for his own Poké Ball to send out his Poliwrath. Arven and Penny, meanwhile, send out a Greedent and Umbreon respectively.
The battle quickly begins, first with a Close Combat from Poliwrath that immediately takes out Greedent in a single hit. Then, Lycoris is ordered to use a Flip Turn, rushing forward to hit Umbreon before retreating back into his Poké Ball. As soon as Cerbera sends in Lilium the Annihilape to replace Lycoris, Umbreon hits him with a Dark Pulse attack.
As Arven sends in his trusty Mabosstiff to replace the fallen Greedent, Umbreon opts to use Baby-Doll Eyes in an attempt to make Poliwrath weaker. “Lils, Drain Punch like there's no tomorrow, buddy!” Cerbera shouts out to his Pokémon, earning a nod from him. Lilium leaps up off of the ground, and brings his fist right down onto Mabosstiff with a powerful strike.
Although damaged, Mabosstiff still remains steady enough to use a Play Rough attack on Kieran's Poliwrath. However, Poliwrath is quick to strike back, with another devastating Close Combat attack taking down Penny's Umbreon.
“Keep it up, Poliwrath!” Kieran encourages, smiling when the Water Type flexes its arm in appreciation.
“You can't hide behind them forever, bitch!” Cerbera, although still angry and upset, manages to give the offending purple Pokémon responsible for all of the madness a menacing grin. The Pokémon squirms uncomfortably, happy to stay in its shell as Penny sends out her Sylveon next.
Although a Drain Punch from Lilium is enough to take Mabosstiff down, Poliwrath is only able to hit Sylveon with a single Liquidation before it too faints, this time from Sylveon's Moonblast attack. As Arven switches Mabosstiff out for Cloyster, Kieran switches out Poliwrath for Porygon-Z, the artificial Pokémon already beginning to charge up a Hyper Beam.
However, Arven's Pokémon manages to duck out of the way of the blast… only for Lilium to swoop in and nail its side with a Drain Punch. Cloyster manages to remain upright as Lilium retreats back to Cerbera's side, hitting Porygon-Z with a Liquidation while Sylveon targets Lilium with a Moonblast.
“OK, let's try that again! Porygon-Z, use Hyper Beam!”
The Pokémon twitches, before letting out a warped chirp of agreement. This time, Porygon-Z manages to hit its target, nailing Cloyster with a powerful Hyper Beam that sends it tumbling backwards, knocking it out for the rest of the match. While Lilium also manages to hit Sylveon with a Drain Punch of his own, he's quickly taken down by his opponent's Moonblast.
As Cerbera sends in Fiddleneck the Farigiraf to replace Lilium, Porygon-Z is forced to recharge after having launched such a powerful attack. While Fiddleneck uses a Hyper Voice attack that damages both targets, Sylveon uses yet another Moonblast on Porygon-Z.
After one last Hyper Beam that takes down Sylveon, Porygon-Z is the one to take itself out after recoil damage from its held Life Orb. With both Kieran and Penny's Pokémon taken out, they both reach for their remaining Poké Balls at the same time. Kieran sends out a Dragonite that lets out a mighty roar, and Penny sends out a Leafeon that's accompanied by a melodic battle cry.
Leafeon leaps forward to hit Fiddleneck with an X-Scissor, but even with the super-effective damage, the Farigiraf remains standing. And although Dragonite's Hurricane misses its mark, Fiddleneck is able to land a Psychic attack that finally secures them the victory.
“Mo…”
“Ch-chee…”
Both Arven and Penny grumble in defeat as Cerbera and Kieran recall their Pokémon. Both Trainers quickly rush over to their hypnotized companions, but Cerbera is already actively scanning the area for something.
“Arven… Penny… I'm real sorry, guys…” Kieran slumps, unable to look at them for too long. Along with obvious upset, he seems entirely disappointed in himself, especially as he seems to think that he might be the cause for their predicament. Then, slowly, he turns towards the Pokémon, who's been trying to subtly float away this entire time.
“There!” Kieran points, gesturing for Cerbera to see. “Where do you think you're going?! You're next!” He fumes. With both Cerbera and Kieran looking about ready to tear it apart, the Pokémon turns tail and begins to flee in the other direction.
“Hey! ¡Cabrón! ¡Me cago en tu puta madre!” Cerbera shouts, rushing forward to chase after the Pokémon. With both Kieran and Cerbera hot on the Pokémon's trail, the video abruptly ends.]
[Tally has posted two videos! Will you watch them?]
[Yes!]
[The video begins, once again showing Cerbera and the group in front of the house belonging to Kieran and Carmine's grandparents. However, this time, Carmine is nowhere to be seen, and the group look a bit tuckered out. They already seem to be in the middle of conversation, with Nemona giving an embarrassed looking Kieran a sympathetic look.
“You sure you don't want to stay with your sister?” She asks, briefly looking back towards the front door. The house's lights appear to be on, as evidenced by the bright windows and doors.
“She should be OK… Gramps and Grandma look after her during the day, but they must've taken their eyes off of her for just a sec earlier…” They sigh, head hanging low. Cerbera, however, doesn't seem entirely convinced. Their gaze is fixed on the house, arms crossed, a troubled and focused look on their face.
“Sorry for making you all help out with… that.” Kieran apologizes, lazily gesturing behind him towards the house. Arven shakes his head in response as he tries to give Kieran a reassuring smile.
“Oh, I mean it was no big deal at all. Happy to help out, but…” He pauses, looking elsewhere as he trails off.
“Yeah, I gotta ask. Is everything OK with your sister? She seemed pretty, uh, riled up… even Cerbera seemed a bit spooked.” Penny quickly picks up where Arven left off. They glance over towards Cerbera, and seem to notice the distant look in his eyes.
“She's not usually like that.” Kieran sighs, beginning to fidget with the sleeves of his jacket.
“Well, that's a relief.”
“Is it?” Cerbera suddenly looks back towards the rest of the group. “That already means something's up. I know Carmine. She hasn't ever acted like this. She'd probably rather roll over and die than ever do some stunt like that in front of strangers.” Then, her attention shifts towards Kieran. She waits for their input, furrowing her brows at the younger Trainer.
Kieran suddenly appears a bit nervous. He openly hesitates, before reluctantly speaking up to fill the silence. “... I think she was just really excited to get to meet you all.” He attempts, trying to avoid Cerbera's pointed gaze.
At that, Arven and Penny exchange a skeptical look. “You… really think that's what that was?” Arven asks, seeming to be more inclined towards his friend's open suspicion. Kieran awkwardly shuffles his feet, now looking away from Arven and towards the ground.
“Y-yeah. That's… that's gotta be why she's dancing that weird dance and screaming ‘Mochi Mochi’...” Kieran's voice squeaks a bit as they reply back. Now, it's painfully obvious that even Kieran themselves doesn't entirely believe what they're saying.
“Kieran, buddy, we both know this isn't normal.” Cerbera sighs, his frustration beginning to ebb away, if only for a few moments. He softens his gaze, and his expression turns more sympathetic. “You've gotta tell us what you know, alright?”
Kieran, still trying to avoid everyone's staring, turns around to face the house. “I mean… she's been like that since I sent you the letter, Cerbera.” They sigh, their free hand bouncing against their side as they finally begin to explain. “She was already dancin’ and all by the time I woke up the next day. No explanation.” They frown, before tilting their head a bit to finally look back towards Cerbera.
“... I guess… you're right. That really isn't normal, is it?” He sighs. Kieran glances away again, the concern he's been harboring for his sister gradually becoming more and more obvious. “Maybe the other folks in town are right… Maybe this really IS a curse…”
“Wh– ‘scuse me?” Cerbera sputters, first looking towards Kieran, then the rest of the group. Arven meets their gaze, looking just as alarmed as they do.
“Wait, it could be a curse?!” Arven nearly stumbles backwards entirely, his hands lifting in a shocked and defensive gesture.
“Wow, this trip just took a reeeal sudden dive into horror movie territory…” Penny cringes, an obvious panic beginning to rise in them as well. They look towards Cerbera for help, but Cerbera's attention has turned back towards the house. Strangely, she seems to be much more concerned than the rest of the group.
“I know zilch about curses, but could something like this have happened before? You ever heard any old stories or legends about it?” Nemona, unlike the others, remains surprisingly calm. As Kieran turns to face her, she tries to flash Cerbera a reassuring look.
“I don't know… Cerbera already took care of the whole thing with Ogerpon and the Loyal Three…” Kieran sighs, something that only proves to make the group even more uneasy.
“Sheesh, Cerbera. You really just rolled on through this town like a little hurricane, huh?” Even as Arven attempts to add some levity to the conversation, his shoulders still slump in obvious disappointment at the lack of any clear answers. Cerbera doesn't give a proper answer. They just shake their head, fists now clenched at their sides.
For a moment, Kieran gives a worried glance in Cerbera's direction before he continues. “My sis may have no filter… and be inconsiderate… and push people's buttons… but I'd still rather see her be her old self than whatever this is!” He hangs his head, looking thoroughly defeated.
“Yeah, for sure…” Nemona agrees with a sigh.
“We can't just leave her like this.” Cerbera finally speaks up again, turning back towards the rest of the group as he does. Although he still looks a bit frightened, determination now begins to fill his expression as well. “Whatever's going on, we'll get to the bottom of it. I just… hope it isn't…” Cerbera doesn't allow himself to continue. Instead, he sighs, and runs a hand through his hair.
“Right.” Arven nods his head in agreement, making sure to give Cerbera a soft, reassuring smile, just as Nemona had. “If there's anything you think we can do to help, just say the word!” He encourages. Kieran didn't look surprised at first, but at the sound of Arven's agreement, his head shoots back up.
“Wha–?”
“Sure, we'll help you out! I definitely don't believe in horror movie tropes like curses anyway!” Penny chimes in, a smile on her face as well.
“Yeah, let's do this! If we get to battle a curse, I'm so here for it!” Nemona pumps a fist up in the air, looking genuinely excited by the prospect.
“I sure wish you could battle curses.” Cerbera chuckles in agreement, some of the tension leaving their shoulders as Nemona gives them a wide grin.
“Y… you guys sure? You don't mind?” Kieran looks around at each one of Cerbera's friends, utterly shocked by how eager they are to help.
“Hey, c'mon. Friends help each other. We've got you and Carmine's backs, alright?” Cerbera, though still obviously stressed, manages to give Kieran a grin. When they gently nudge Kieran's shoulder, the younger Trainer hesitantly smiles back.
“Cerbera…” He shakes his head. “No, all of you… Thank you!” His smile gradually grows in strength as he addresses the entire group as a whole. “It's too late to start today, but I'd be grateful if you all could help me out tomorrow!” Kieran giggles, lifting a gloved hand up to try and obscure the noise.
“First we're gonna have a proper welcome party tonight at the community center!” At that, Arven, Penny and Nemona all give their own shouts of agreement. As they begin discussing further and heading back towards the community center, the video ends.]
[The next video begins inside of the community center, showing Cerbera, Arven, Penny and Kieran mid-conversation near the far right side of the room. Eventually, Arven seems to notice something. He turns around, obviously confused, seeming to be looking for something.
“Huh? Where'd Nemona go off to? She in the bathroom or something?” Arven frowns. Immediately, Cerbera snaps to attention, moving to stand beside Arven and look around the room themselves.
“No, I was checking around there earlier– I'm pretty sure I would've seen her go in.” Penny follows Arven's gaze before shaking their head.
“She didn't head into the rooms in the back either. I was by the door to the hallway this whole time.” Kieran chimes in themselves, beginning to look a bit nervous by the time Arven turns back around.
“I think I know what's going on…” Arven, noticing the tension, tries to force a smile onto his face. “She must be waiting to jump out and scare us!” He reasons, a small laugh escaping him at the idea of Nemona trying to do such a thing. Arven looks towards Cerbera to try and gage their reaction, but…
Cerbera seems to have stopped listening at some point. After just a moment's hesitation, they suddenly lift their head, eyes wide as they look back over the group. “Kieran, come on. We have to find her. Now.” Without waiting for a reply, Cerbera suddenly bolts past the others and towards the door. “You both wait here.” They look back towards Arven and Penny, both exchanging confused and concerned looks.
Before anyone can argue, Cerbera has already rushed right out the door. After a moment, Kieran runs over to follow, nearly slipping and falling on the tiled floor as he does.
The video suddenly cuts to new footage, showing an area of Reveler's Road that leads up to Kitakami Hall. The sky is dark, seeming to have transitioned into night. An elderly woman and man stand near a large archway and stone staircase, and soon enough, Cerbera and Kieran are seen running into frame and towards them. As the pair approach, the older man turns towards them, smiling with recognition.
“Hello there, Kieran. And to you too, Cerbera.” He greets, his smile gradually disappearing once he begins to notice the panicked expressions on both Trainer's faces.
“Grandpa! Grandma! What're you both doing here? Is Carmine OK?! And did you see a girl come by here?!” Kieran speaks quickly, trying to catch their breath in-between words.
“Slow down, Kieran. One question at a time.” Kieran's Grandpa slowly raises his hand, a worried look beginning to appear on his own face as well. “Carmine is at home, sleeping in her room. She must've tuckered herself out with all that dancing.” At the explanation, Kieran breathes a sigh of relief. Cerbera, however, still remains tense.
“Phew… So she's safe…” Kieran manages a small smile, even if it shakes with nerves.
“We thought we'd step out while she slept to get some of her favorite noodles from the stall here.” Yukito explains, gesturing behind him towards an unnaturally empty and quiet festival space. “A taste of her favorite food might help snap her out of whatever is going on with her.” He sighs, shaking his head. Now, it's clear he seems just as worried about his granddaughter as the others are.
“Oh… Yeah, I hope so. Good thinking, grandpa.” Kieran nods their head in agreement.
“You didn't run into trouble? Didn't see anything weird?” Cerbera urges, shuffling their feet impatiently, ready to sprint past and look for Nemona.
“No, not necessarily… I was separated from Hideko, but only for a moment. Other than that, it's just been… quiet.” Yukito shakes his head. “Now, what was that you were asking about some girl coming this way?” He asks, and at the reminder, Kieran instantly perks up.
“Oh! Right! Everyone in town is actin’ all weird. And one of the girls who came here from Paldea went missing!” Kieran quickly briefs, nervously bouncing his knee as he speaks.
“Her name's Nemona. She's wearing a uniform like mine, black hair in a ponytail, full of energy. ” Cerbera quickly chimes in with a description, gesturing with their hands as they speak. Yukito pauses, taking a moment to think back.
“Well, now that you mention it, we did run into a girl just like that not too long ago.” He muses, before turning towards his wife. “You spoke with her, dear. What did she say?” He asks gently. However, Hideko doesn't react. She simply continues to stand there, back to the camera, absolutely silent. “... Dearest?” Yukito tries again, tentatively reaching out a hand towards her.
Without replying, Hideko slowly holds out her own hands. Suddenly, with a blur of movement, a large porcelain plate is dropped into her waiting hands, with several portions of purple, donut-shaped mochi on top. Cerbera and Kieran startle backwards, exchanging confused and worried looks.
“Have some mochi.” Hideko's voice is startlingly even, almost mechanical in nature as she waits for her husband to grab a piece.
“I don't think–”
“Have some mochi.” Cerbera is directly interrupted, the request spoken with the exact same tone and cadence. Yukito regards her with open confusion, slowly shaking his head.
“Hm? I… I don't need any mochi at the moment.” He declines, briefly flashing a confused look towards his grandson.
“D-d-dear… have some… mo… chi…” Hideko smiles, slowly opening her eyes to reveal a sickeningly familiar purple glow. “Eat it… Eat th-the… mochi…” Her voice stutters as she attempts to force the words out, lifting the plate even closer towards her companion.
“Grandma?” Kieran gasps quietly, taking a small, uneasy step backwards, closer towards Cerbera.
“This is awfully sudden, dear. But I suppose if you insist…” Kieran's grandfather sighs, reaching forward to grab one of the treats off of the plate. Cerbera opens their mouth, clearly trying to speak… but nothing comes out. They simply choke on air as Yukito takes several bites of the mochi, until it’s disappeared entirely.
“All right, I've had some mochi, dear. Now can we get back to the question?” Yukito sighs, brushing the small crumbs off of his face as he does. However, after a moment, his movements stop. He freezes up, a confused, worried look slowly beginning to manifest onto his face.
Suddenly, his eyes close shut. His head tilts downwards as a silence hangs in the air, with Cerbera unable to move or speak. Kieran, however, eventually finds his voice. “G-Grandpa? You OK?” He asks warily, now eyeing the mochi with even more suspicion.
Suddenly, both Yukito and Hideko turn towards the two Trainers. “Mochi MOCHI!!!” Yukito cries out, flapping his arms in an ever-familiar dance. Instantly, Cerbera and Kieran's faces switch to one of panic and horror.
“Huh–?!” Kieran stutters out, watching as his grandmother joins in as well, shouting along with her husband. “You gotta be kidding me!” Kieran flinches backwards, watching as both of his grandparents, still dancing, grab one of their Poké Balls.
“Well, at least it's not what I thought it was.” Cerbera grumbles through gritted teeth, standing protectively beside Kieran as they pull out a Poké Ball of their own. “If it's anything like last time, we just have to battle them, and they'll leave us alone. Then we go find Nemona.”
“R-right!” Kieran nods in agreement, watching as an Arbok and Chandelure are sent out onto the makeshift battlefield. “Aw man, why'd this have to happen… Come on out, Poliwrath!” Kieran tries to ignore the shouting of his grandparents as he sends out his own Pokémon. Cerbera is quick to follow his actions, sending out Lycoris the Basculegion to help Poliwrath out.
Poliwrath is the first to move, launching itself forward to strike Chandelure with a super-effective Liquidation attack. Lycoris, meanwhile, vanishes mid-air, disappearing from the field as he readies himself to use Phantom Force. In the process, Lycoris is able to dodge the incoming Shadow Ball from Chandelure, but Poliwrath still ends up in range for Arbok to use Screech.
“Something must be producing that weird food that's made people into… fucked up mochi puppets.” Cerbera grimaces at his own wording, watching as Poliwrath takes out Chandelure with another Liquidation attack before Lycoris can hit it. “If we find the source of that, maybe we can figure out what's going on. I just hope it hasn't gotten to Nemona…” As he continues, his brows suddenly crinkles in worry for his friend.
“Y'think so?” Kieran briefly glances towards Cerbera as Lycoris finally reappears to hit Arbok with spectral energy. “I guess that'd make sense, actually… Gramps only started actin’ all weird when he ate that ‘mochi’.” He shudders, before quickly shaking his head and refocusing on the battle, just in time to watch Poliwrath get hit by Arbok's Gunk Shot.
With Chandelure having fainted, Hideko is quick to send out her next Pokémon, a large Mamoswine. Just as it hits the field, however, is when Poliwrath takes out Arbok with another Liquidation, and Lycoris instantly takes out Mamoswine with a Liquidation of his own. Now, Hideko can do nothing but stand and watch as her husband sends out his Weezing.
Both Poliwrath and Lycoris work together to attack Weezing with two Liquidation attacks, but the Poison Type remains standing. Poliwrath is able to survive the initial hit of Weezing's Sludge Bomb attack, but after being poisoned, Poliwrath finally falls and is forced back into its Poké Ball.
Although Kieran still sends out their Hydrapple as a precaution, Lycoris picks up the KO with one last Liquidation. Without any Pokémon left to send out, the hypnotized Yukito and Hideko are only able to hang their heads in defeat, their shouting reduced to quiet murmuring as Kieran and Cerbera recall their Pokémon.
“Aw man… No way… Gramps and Grandma too? Everyone's losing it…” Kieran sighs, his shoulders slumping at the state his grandparents are now in. Then, his eyes widen in alarm as he processes his own words. “It's just a matter of time until it gets me… I'm gonna end up like all the rest of ‘em!” He cries out, hands moving up to tug at his hair in a panic.
“Kieran! ¡Cálmate!” Cerbera shouts back, stepping forward to firmly shake their companion’s shoulder, trying to snap them out of it. “Nothing like that is gonna happen, alright?! We've got each other's backs. We're gonna figure this out together.” Cerbera's expression and voice, although still obviously tense, is now filled with open determination.
Kieran takes a moment to try and calm himself down, quietly sniffling and rubbing at his eyes with his sleeve. Eventually, he nods his head, and tries to put on a brave face. “S-sorry… I kinda panicked there…” He whimpers, trying to avoid looking at his grandparents for too long.
“Hey, it's okay to be scared. I'm scared too. Doesn't mean that we don't got this though, y'hear?” Cerbera offers Kieran a tight smile as they bring an arm around his shoulders. Eventually, Kieran is able to return the smile.
“... Thanks, Cerbera.” They let out a sigh of relief, lifting their gloved hand up to their chin as they ponder over the situation. “OK, let's think… Before Gramps started acting like Carmine, he ate some of that weird mochi, like you said… maybe there's something in it that--” Suddenly, Kieran's thoughts are interrupted by a familiar ringtone. The camera, Cerbera's Rotom Phone, zips down in front of them. Kieran, surprised, looks between the phone and the now open air as Cerbera accepts the call.
“Cerbera! How're you two doing out there?! You OK?!” Arven's voice is heard over the footage, spiked with concern. Instantly, Cerbera's eyes widen in realization, as if they had nearly forgotten who they'd left behind.
“We're safe, we've been trying to tail Nemona. What about you and Penny?” Cerbera asks, attention completely focused on the camera in front of them. Kieran, deciding not to interrupt, begins fidgeting with their sleeve.
“Yeah? Thank goodness. Just hearing your voice is helping me calm down.” Arven audibly sighs in relief at the reassurance. “We got worried because we hadn't heard from you in a while, so we decided to step outside… and things are WEIRD out here, little buddy.” As Arven begins to explain, Cerbera's expression is quick to morph into one of worry and panic.
“You went outside?!” Cerbera hisses, running a hand through their hair. “Arven, what happened? You aren't hurt, are you?” Although noticeably frustrated by their friend's decisions, they don't seem to be directly mad with them.
“Yeah, we're okay, but we were attacked by all these folks shouting ‘Mochi mochi!’ at us, and we couldn't spot you anywhere, so I was beginning to fear the worst!” Arven, like Kieran and Cerbera, sounds just as concerned and confused about the situation at hand. “We're holding tight by that Peachy's place for the moment, but–”
Suddenly, Arven is interrupted by a familiar voice over the phone. “Eek! Eyaaauuughhh! There's something there! There's SOMETHING THERE, Arven!” Penny shrieks. Immediately, Cerbera tenses up, and Kieran worriedly leans in closer to the camera.
“Is that Penny?! Arven, what's happening?” Cerbera urges, firmly grabbing the phone in both hands.
“Penny, wha–? GYAH!” Arven doesn't reply, a strange cry being heard over the camera instead.
“What's wrong?! Are you two OK?!”
“You better answer us before I come running over there, cabrón!”
“Hang on! Oh crud, this does NOT look good!” Arven doesn't directly answer any of their questions, instead seeming preoccupied with whatever is happening on the other side of the phone. Suddenly, before Arven can continue, a loud crash is heard over the call, as if from some sort of collision.
“ARVEN!” Cerbera shouts, only for the call to promptly disconnect. Suddenly, Cerbera lets go of the phone to instead grab at their hair and audibly groan in frustration.
“Something must've got them!” Kieran gasps, before directing his attention away from the phone and to his friend. “I… It'll be okay, Cerbera. We're a team, right? You don't have to try and protect everyone all by yourself all at once.” When he places a gentle hand on their shoulder, Cerbera noticeably hesitates. Eventually, they let out a long breath, and nod their head in agreement.
“We'll focus on finding Nemona later, but right now we have to get to Peachy's. C'mon!” Kieran urges, quickly taking Cerbera's hand to drag them along with them.
“I… Right.” Cerbera nods again, making sure to grab a Poké Ball off of her belt as the pair run out of frame. After a moment, the video ends.]
[The video begins, showing four familiar looking students in the streets of Mossui Town on a bright, sunny day. Cerbera, Arven, Nemona and Penny all stand together, with Nemona looking especially excited.
“Oooh, so this is Mossui Town?!” Nemona beams, looking towards Cerbera with enough excitement to make her jump and fidget in place.
“Yeah, it's–” Cerbera attempts to reply, but as soon as Nemona has gotten the confirmation, she runs off to get a closer look at the community center up ahead. “Aaand there she goes. Nemona! Don't wander too far!” Cerbera calls out, laughing as he does.
“I won't, promise!” Nemona gives Cerbera a thumbs-up, before she takes a deep inhale. “You all smell that, right? It kinda smells different than Paldea!” She points out, looking back towards the group, as if waiting for them to follow after her.
“You mean, like, the fresh country air or something?” Cerbera snorts in amusement, before turning back towards Penny and Arven. Noticing Penny's particularly tired expression and squinted eyes, he frowns, and approaches to gently touch their shoulder.
“Hey, you good?” She asks, only for Penny to let out an exaggerated groan.
“My head's still spinning too fast to see anything… Are we there yet?” They complain, putting a hand up to shield their eyes from the sun. Cerbera just nods and pats his friend's shoulder.
“Maybe you wouldn't have gotten so carsick if you hadn't stared at your phone the whole bus ride.” Arven sighs, casting Penny a look that seems to be something between concern and mild disappointment.
“Hey, what else were we supposed to do?” Cerbera grins, laughing when Arven casts her an annoyed look.
“Do literally anything else, Berin! Don't start taking her side!”
Penny manages a quiet giggle at her friend's antics as she gives Cerbera a grateful look. “Plus, I didn't know if we'd get signal here…” She admits, pulling out a Rotom phone with an Eevee case. “I had to load up on internet goodness while I could…”
“See? Have some pity on our poor souls, Arven.” Cerbera puts a hand on Arven's shoulder and lowers her head, pretending to look distraught. Arven slowly shakes his head in disbelief, but before he can reply, an elderly man emerges from the community center.
“Why, hello there!” He greets, standing near Nemona to look over the group. At the sight of the caretaker, Arven is quick to trot over. Cerbera, however, stays behind for a moment to make sure Penny comes along as well.
“Hiya!”
“Hiya, indeed.” The caretaker laughs at Nemona's peppy greeting. “I'm the caretaker here, and it's a pleasure to welcome you to our town. And Cerbera! It's wonderful to see you again.” He extends his hand forward for a handshake, and smiles when Cerbera accepts.
“Good to see you too, señor. How've the Loyal Three been?”
“Oh, they've been a great help to our community ever since you entrusted them to us. All three of them have really been cleaning up their act! And bringing in plenty of tourists, of course…” He enthuses, making sure to mention that last part much more quietly. As the two disengage from the handshake, both Nemona and Arven flash Cerbera a curious look.
“Anyhow… Kieran had mentioned you all would be coming. Cerbera aside, this is everyone's first time visiting Kitakami, is that right?”
“Yeah, that's the long and short of it.” Arven nods his head in confirmation, making sure to give the caretaker a polite smile when he addresses him.
“I see, I see.” The older man nods sagely. “Well, again, you're most welcome.” He briefly looks back at the building behind him. “You can sleep here at the community center. All the rooms have been freshened up for you.” The caretaker assures, which receives some quiet, excited clapping from Penny.
“Whoa… Now that's some thoughtful service!” She grins. At the compliment, the caretaker laughs and lifts a hand to harmlessly wave her off.
“It was no trouble. Now please, relax and enjoy yourselves– but most of all, enjoy Kitakami!” With one last wave, the caretaker turns to head back inside the community center.
“Thank you, señor!” Cerbera waves back, visibly restraining laughter as soon as he notices Nemona's exaggerated two-handed wave.
“Thanks very much, sir!” She yells, her voice loud enough to startle a nearby Yanma and send it zipping off somewhere out of frame. As soon as the caretaker disappears inside the building, Arven turns towards Cerbera, both arms crossed across his chest.
“So what about that Kieran guy? Have you heard from him at all?” He asks, to which Cerbera subtly shakes their head.
“Nah, not yet. Not like he can text me, though. He doesn't have a Rotom phone or anything… I imagine if we just wait here, or maybe find his grandparents–”
Cerbera is suddenly interrupted by a loud, incredulous gasp from Penny. The young girl looks visibly shocked, and even Arven has his visible eye widened in surprise. “EXCUSE me? He doesn't have a smartphone?! How is this kid even alive?!” Penny squeaks out, almost beginning to look a bit concerned on his behalf. Cerbera, meanwhile, can't hold in their laughter any longer.
“He must not want any distractions from training!” Nemona reasons, smiling as if her idea was a genius one. Cerbera seems to have to force themselves not to laugh even more. “Think he's at his house? Should we go meet him?” She suggests, already beginning to look around, even if she doesn't even know what Kieran or his house looks like.
“Yeah, I know where his grandparents live. We can walk there, actually. Just follow me, alright?” Cerbera points to himself with his thumb, already beginning to lead the way forward.
“This better not take long… I feel like I'm about to collapse from this heat…” Penny sighs, reluctantly following behind.
“Maybe if you took your sweater off, you'd feel a lot better.” Arven suggests with a huff.
“You're literally wearing a vest! You can't even talk!”
“It's stylish!”
“Yeah, and so is my hoodie!”
“Oh come on, save the bickering for the ride home! We've gotta make a good first impression on Kieran and his grandparents if I'm going to battle him!” Nemona, still walking, turns around to point a finger at her two companions, nearly bumping into Cerbera as she does.
Just as the group disappears out of frame, the video suddenly cuts to new footage. Kieran, with his hair tied up, is standing in front of his grandparents house, nervously fidgeting with the familiar strand of dark hair that's freed itself from his tie. However, as soon as he sees Cerbera trotting up onto the property, his expression turns to one of surprise and quiet fondness.
“Kieran! What's good, man?” Cerbera grins, firmly patting his shoulder and bringing him into a side hug. Kieran, although clearly feeling a bit awkward, manages to return the gesture with a smile.
“Cerbera! Oh man, it feels like it's been a long time! Thanks so much for coming!” He laughs, some nervousness still in his voice as Cerbera pulls away.
“‘Course I came.” Cerbera grins down at his friend. It's clear that, even with the time and the struggles between them, Cerbera is still just as happy to see Kieran as he would be with any of his other friends. “Couldn't just reject a personal invite, now could I? How's it been at home? It's been like… what, at least two weeks since everything happened?”
“Oh, yeah… things have been crazy at home, especially since I got myself hurt back there.” Kieran winces at the memory and instinctually flexes his gloved hand. “That's, uh… partly why I couldn't come meet you at the bus stop. Sorry about that, by the way.” He frowns, casting his gaze downwards and beginning to fidget with his hair again as he apologizes.
“Hey, don't worry about it. I know my way around here too, y'know.” Cerbera is quick to reassure the younger Trainer, reaching a hand out to gently pat their shoulder. Kieran looks almost surprised, before some of his nervousness disappears, and he begins to quietly laugh instead.
“Ehehe… Thanks!” He lifts his gaze back up and lets go of his hair, now giving Cerbera a soft, reassured smile. However, after a moment, he seems to realize something. “But wait– did you come all by yourself?” They ask, leaning to the side to try and look behind Cerbera.
“Nah. Remember when we were down in Area Zero, and I said I'd already been there with some friends?” Cerbera crosses his arms with an amused smile. At the sight of Kieran's widened eyes and dropped jaw, he has to physically restrain himself from laughing. But, before Kieran can ask any further questions, Arven, Nemona and Penny are finally seen walking into the closed-in lawn.
Nemona is quick to smile and wave, while Penny awkwardly lifts their hand in greeting. Arven, however, eyes Kieran with an air of suspicion as he walks up to stand behind Cerbera. “Yo, we're here too.” He nods his head, earning a sheepish smile from Kieran.
“Hey, nice to meet you! I'm Nemona!” The Paldean Champion is already rushing up to the younger boy, forcefully taking their hand in a firm handshake. Kieran, obviously startled, gasps as they're practically jostled around by Nemona's shaking. “You're Kieran, yeah? Cerbera told us all about you! Like how you're great at Pokémon battles! Right?!” She beams, seeming totally oblivious to the state she's put Kieran in.
Penny can't bear to watch, averting her gaze and sighing as if she had already expected this to happen. Arven winces, and looks about ready to intervene and drag Nemona away if he has to. Cerbera, although amused, seems to be paying close attention to how Kieran may react.
“W-well, I don't know about that, but…” Kieran looks downwards, seeming a mix of shame and embarrassment as Nemona lets go of his hand.
“Dial it back a notch or nine. You're scaring him.” Penny points out plainly, ignoring the surprised look that Nemona gives her. “I'm Penny. Unlike a certain someone, I'm fine with taking friendships nice and slow.” Although Penny avoids any direct eye contact, her words remain sincere.
“And I'm Arven. Cerbera's absolute BEST friend.” As if to emphasize his point, Arven leans in to sling an arm around his friend's shoulder. Cerbera, although they remain quiet, give Arven a side-eye and an almost mischievous smile. When Arven makes direct eye contact with Kieran, the Blueberry Champion visibly flinches and lets out a quiet, nervous laugh.
“Staking your claim right from the get-go, huh?” Penny squints her eyes at Arven, giving him a disapproving glare. Arven, meanwhile, looks right back and gives a glare of his own. For several moments, the two seem to have a quiet stand-off, neither quite willing to begin a real argument.
“You guys have seriously got to calm down.” Cerbera snickers, carefully prying Arven's arm off of her. “Can we all act normal for, like, two seconds? Maybe?” She looks around at her friends, trying not to laugh when Penny and Arven both give her incredulous looks.
“But I am acting normal!” Nemona defends, turning away from Kieran now that her attention is back on Cerbera and the others. Now that the pressure is off of him, Kieran noticeably relaxes, letting out a silent sigh of relief.
“If by ‘normal’ you mean ‘off the wall, battle-crazed motor-mouth, then yeah, sure.”
“Penny!” Cerbera barks out a laugh, which then proceeds to dissolve into a full fit as soon as they see Nemona crossing her arms and giving Penny a pointed look. Penny, in response, just shrugs, as if she hadn't done anything wrong.
Kieran, meanwhile, finally lets out a real laugh, one that's much less nervous. “Well, I'm Kieran. I met Cerbera when she came here for that school trip. That's when we became friends.” He explains, softly smiling as he seems to reminisce on the good memories. Then, he pauses, trying to think of something more to add.
“Um… what else…? Oh, I'm a student at Blueberry Academy.” They pause again, as if suddenly remembering something. “Er, I mean, I WAS a student there– I'm on a break right now.” Kieran quickly corrects themselves, their free hand curled into a soft fist, continuously bumping against their side.
“Whoa, really? I know how that goes. Same thing happened to me!” Penny looks genuinely shocked by the information, as if she hadn't quite expected to already share so many similarities with this new stranger.
“Penny! Don't go sympathizing with the enemy!” Arven interrupts, an obvious annoyance beginning to flare up within him. “I thought I could count on you at least to keep this interloper at arm's length…”
Instantly, Cerbera's eyes narrow. They harshly jab Arven with their elbow, before whipping around to face him. “¡Oye, tipo duro! Pórtate bien.” Suddenly, Cerbera has a stern look on their face as they jab a finger at the taller boy. While Kieran just looks confused, and even a little startled, Nemona lets out a quiet whistle of awe.
Arven, although looking momentarily frustrated, quickly ends up deflating. He sighs, his shoulders sagging a bit as he gives a slow, reluctant nod of his head. “Sorry…” He mumbles quietly, avoiding Cerbera's gaze until they give him a forgiving smile and turn back around again.
“Eh. I just get the feeling we're pretty alike.” Penny can't hide the smug smile on their face as they look back at Arven, even as he flashes them a sour look.
Kieran, looking as if he's not quite sure what to make of this, tries to hide his laughter behind a closed fist. “Wow, your friends seem like a quirky group. Kinda like you, huh?” When he receives several quick nods from Cerbera, he giggles even more. “Anyways, a friend of Cerbera's is a friend of mine! I hope you all have a good time staying in Kitakami!” Seeming to have gotten some of his confidence back, he gives the group a smile.
Arven looks as if he's about to say something, before Nemona swiftly cuts him off. “Thanks! Now let's battle!” She excitedly raises her gloved fist, feet already fidgeting in excitement.
“I, uh… what?” Kieran stares back at Nemona, looking genuinely lost. Cerbera is trying not to laugh all over again, and both Penny and Arven have to stifle audible groans.
“That space in front of the community center looked like a good battle spot!” Suddenly, Nemona has turned around, and begins to dash off at lightning speed. “Vamos! C'mon!” She shouts past them, not even bothering to wait for them to catch up as she runs.
A moment of stunned silence follows after Nemona's departure until a few quiet chuckles sneak past Cerbera. Kieran looks over towards them, that awkward, confused look back on his face. “Does she want me to go with her? Am I supposed to go battle her…?” He asks, looking between Cerbera and the direction Nemona vanished off into.
“It's whatever you want, Kieran. But… it's kind of hard to tell her no when it comes to battling.” She laughs, lifting a hand up to rub the back of her neck.
“Tell me about it…” Arven shakes his head.
“But it'll be fun! Promise. Nemona's always a good sport.” Cerbera quickly reassures Kieran, gently slapping a hand down onto their shoulder and giving them a subtle shake of encouragement. “Just, uh… good luck, m'kay?”
“Good luck…?” Kieran raises a brow, before quietly sighing and shaking his head. “Aw man… She's just as pushy as sis is… but, like… different.” With some momentary reluctance, Kieran walks past Cerbera and the rest of the group to follow after Nemona at a much more reasonable pace.
“Oh no.” Arven only speaks once Kieran is out of earshot, watching him leave with a guilty expression. “I… I think I might have made a terrible mistake. This Kieran kid might actually be a good guy!” He turns to Penny, but is only met with a deadpan look of utter disappointment.
“Of course he is. He's friends with Cerbera!” Penny, still somewhat annoyed, slowly shakes her head in disbelief. However, at the sight of Arven trying to hide his ashamed face, she can't help but quietly laugh.
“Y-yeah… Yeah, that's true.” Arven sighs, putting both hands on his hips, seeming a bit reluctant to be the second to follow after them. Cerbera finally steps forward to stand in between Penny and Arven, unable to hold in his laughter as he gives Arven a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
“Hey, don't sweat it. He's not gonna take it personally.” Cerbera smiles, flashing Penny a side-eye when she gives an unconvinced hum. “Besides, you've still got plenty of time to make it up to him. Which you're going to do, by the way.” Suddenly, the hand on Arven's shoulder shoots up to violently ruffle his hair. Arven shouts in protest, attempting to swat Cerbera's hand away while Penny laughs, louder than last time.
“I know, I know! I said I'm sorry!”
“Yeah, to us, you dork. Forgetting someone?” Penny rolls her eyes.
“... You two can be so insufferable sometimes, you know that?”
“You wouldn't have it any other way.” Cerbera grins back, before taking a few steps forward in the direction that Nemona and Kieran had run off into. “Now c'mon. Nemona's probably already wiped the floor with Kieran by now.” With a gesture of their hand, Cerbera begins leading the way, with Arven and Penny being quick to follow behind.
The video suddenly cuts to new footage, this time showing the group back in front of Mossui Town's community center. They seem to be in the middle of conversation, when a tall, familiar figure begins to walk into frame. Carmine's motions are almost robotic, and as she stands ominously behind Arven, her usually golden eyes now seem to have a strange, pink glow to them.
Arven slowly turns, and after taking a moment to process the sudden appearance, he jerks away. “Whoa! Who the heck are you?!” He raises his hands up defensively, eyes widened with concern and suspicion. Now, the entire group has turned to look at Carmine. While everyone looks confused, it's only Cerbera and Kieran whose faces light up with recognition.
“Sis!” Kieran smiles, but rather quickly, he seems to notice how strange Carmine is already acting. “... You OK?” He asks tentatively, looking between his sister and Cerbera with a puzzled expression. When he makes eye contact with Cerbera, they just shrug their shoulders, seeming equally as lost.
“M… mo…” Slowly, an unnervingly wide smile begins to spread across Carmine's face. Suddenly, she lifts up her elbows, and begins to dance unnaturally. “Mochi MOCHI!!!” She shouts, the sheer volume of her voice causing Penny to cringe. For several moments, the entire group stares in shock, trying to process why this could possibly be happening.
“What the fuck.” Cerbera deadpans, having to visibly bite his lip to keep himself from laughing. “Carmine, are, uh… You good, jefa?” He asks, uncertainty and even a bit of concern clear in his voice. However, even when Carmine turns to look at him, she just continues her strange chicken-like dance.
“Mochi! Mochi! MOCHI! MOCHI!!!” She continues to shout, her voice only growing louder with each repetition of the word. Cerbera leans back a bit, squinting their eyes as they now study Carmine with an obvious air of suspicion.
“Is this your big sister, Kieran? Do you think she wants in on the battle fun too?” Nemona smiles, oblivious as ever, stepping forward to wave a hand in front of Carmine's face. Strangely, the taller girl barely even reacts.
Penny shoots Nemona a dumbfounded look. “There's no way that's what's going on here…” She sighs, shaking her head as she watches Cerbera join Nemona's efforts and try to snap their fingers to snap Carmine out of it.
“S-sorry, everybody, but could you help me just, uh… just carry my sis somewhere safe?!” Kieran attempts, looking horribly embarrassed and horribly concerned at the same time.
“You want us to pick her up and drag her off?! I mean… if you say so…” Arven looks at Kieran, surprised by their sudden request.
“Wait, we're seriously just going to leave her like this?” Cerbera frowns. Instead of looking towards the others, they focus on Carmine, looking deep into her eyes. “There's something definitely wrong here. And her eyes…”
“Well, what else are we supposed to do?” Penny sighs, walking behind Carmine to try and lift her up. “It's not like we– know what's– up with her…” They heave, before letting out a loud, exasperated sigh. “Okay, Arven! You're dealing with this. Nemona, make sure to help grab her legs.”
“Right!” Nemona rushes up to help Arven in his efforts. Even as the group carefully haul Carmine off of the ground, she doesn't stop her dancing.
“This is some bullshit…” Cerbera shakes her head, before reluctantly joining the group. As they begin carrying Carmine off in the direction of her grandparents’ home, the video ends.]

[VIDEO ID: The video begins outside, somewhere within Area Three of the South Province. The camera is angled upwards, showing Cerbera and Cernuus the Koraidon atop one of the large pillars of red stone. "You recording?!" Cerbera hollers, cupping his hands near his mouth to project his voice. After he seems to receive a cue of some kind, Cerbera gives the camera a thumbs-up, and hops up onto Cernuus.
As soon as Cerbera is ready, Cernuus leaps off of the stone, and spreads their wings to glide. However, instead of slowly descending downwards, they suddenly begin to fly up. Without needing to land, Cernuus easily flies about, doing several loops and other maneuvers in the sky. Cerbera raises her hands up in the air, and starts shouting excitedly.
Eventually, Cernuus finally begins to lower themself towards the ground. Once they've landed a foot or two in front of the camera, the video ends.]
