Concerning recent media releases...
Having recently seen Backrooms, Iron Lung and now The Amazing Digital Circus: Last Act in theaters recently I can fully say I feel like I've taken the time to breathe air and exhale a bit of trepidation that I've been feeling about popular media.
It's my own special kind of inner darkness that I must contend with, now that these things are in the world in front of audiences. It summons up something within that I remember from the first time I walked out of The Matrix at the same theater I just watched TADC:LA at.
I had this notion that the world would be different, feel different. Be on a different track. Instead things went how they went, and I suppose that's what they were always going to be like. It wasn't as if I could see much of this coming in the ensuing nearly three decades hence, but I felt like it would at least put some jolts into the common collective brains and it never seemed like that occurred.
Seeing these bits of independent media get the popularity they are experiencing now has me cautiously hopeful, but honestly reserved as it feels cyclical more than not. I'll be watching to see how the bigger houses view this success, how they react, what gets room to grow now, but honestly I don't think we're going to see much from the mainstream.
TADC:LA was a beautiful experience, I'm glad I went to the theater to see it on a big screen. Thank you to all those involved, it's rare that something has me in tears that much.
(edited for formatting, honestly you guys why even let me format in post writing if you're just going to vomit it onto my feed and make me go back to fix it :/ )
