Dean isn’t in a happy or peaceful place while being possessed by Michael. After screaming and yelling at him to give him control again, Michael got fed up and sent Dean into a looping dream. Not one of him, Sam, Jack and Cas all at the beach.

The dreams are of Cas and him fighting. 

Cas telling Dean he hates hi.

Cas leaving him behind, sometimes for someone else.

Cas beating Dean up.

Dean knows what Michael is doing. And he tries to break free, he tries to gain control but the visions of Cas are so real he starts to question if they’re even dreams at all. Eventually he gives up and lets them happen. He doesn’t try to get them to stop. And they don’t stop.
