Dark roads at night

There is something about dark roads at night, driving alone with music playing, that brings a flood from the past. Memories of people and places. The passing car headlights illuminating images, thoughts and feelings. Loneliness. Regrets. People you miss. Places forgotten. Dreams faded away. Fears of the future and not living up to something. Even if life is going right at the moment, a nighttime drive alone brings it back. There is no escape from these thoughts. It haunts me. It always will.
