cash cannon has had a colorful life, and if you ask him to elaborate on that, there’s a good chance that he won’t
born second in the cannon brood, cash was only a couple years younger than striker, but he treated his older brother like a rockstar
he followed his brother around constantly, two steps behind at all times so he couldn’t ever be left out
the two were thick as thieves but still opposites in their own right
while striker was the spitting image of their father, cash looked just like their mama, and even had her sweet disposition
she introduced him to books and music and taught him how to cook in the kitchen, and while his father considered those to be things a boy didn’t know how to do, that didn’t stop him from enjoying them
but music was his favorite — johnny cash in particular — and the boy couldn’t be found without his little radio that was a birthday gift from his mama
he was seven when he decided that he didn’t want to be called casey ray, and was adamant that everyone call him ‘cash’
but it was also around this time that he began to see the fury in his father’s eyes
for the most part he was shielded from it, hearing only broken glass and screams emitting from the kitchen while he hid under the covers of his bed or ran directly to striker’s room for protection
but as cash got older, the more he recognized the signs of abuse
his mama’s spirit broke more and more everyday, and by the time he was ten and dodge came into the world, he watched her disappear entirely
cash felt empty without her around, but his top priority was taking care of striker and dodge, and that’s just what he did
there were plenty of nights where he’d put himself between his father and his brothers, suffering injuries ranging from bruises shaped like fingertips to a broken wrist
but cash never put the burden of his abuse on his brothers, thankful that he could take it instead of them most days
his teenage years were spent causing a ruckus, often getting caught breaking into abandoned buildings or getting drunk in the park with a group of his friends
it was his version of being reckless, and getting away with it was further encouragement
that didn’t mean cash was a bad kid, though; he was still sweet as pie and as respectful as possible, and that was enough to get him by
despite her departure and lack of communication, cash was still bound and determined to make his mama proud
he worked hard and studied hard in school, making her his grades were picture perfect
when the time came to apply for colleges, he was accepted into every school he sought out, but ultimately chose to stay close to home
he majored in education with a minor in music, the real goal to become a music teacher so he could make a better life for himself and his brothers
thankfully cash was able to achieve that dream, making high marks and graduating from college with honors
he secured a job as a band teacher at the local high school, and despite not really having his shit together, he managed to hold himself professionally during working hours
but the rough home life persisted, and by the time he was twenty-eight years old, he and his brothers were packing up and leaving clarksville
it was better for all three of them that way, and cash knew he’d be able to get a new job elsewhere
when the cannon brothers crash-landed in roswell, it was like everything fell into place nicely
he got a job at the high school, bought himself a trailer, and shoved it onto the lot right next to his older brother’s
cash knew that he’d be able to afford a nicer place, but being in close proximity with striker and dodge was far more important

he still continues his reckless behavior, often spotted at the local roswell dive bars and dance clubs chatting people up in the hopes of bringing them home with him later on
it isn’t uncommon for him to be out until the sun comes up but still in his classroom by seven in the morning so he could teach
he has a fear of commitment since his mom left, his childhood dredging up a lot of terrible memories and thus resulting in his refusal to hold down a real relationship
he’s incredibly nurturing just by instinct alone, always the first to check up on you or bring you things to make you feel better
