i read the outsiders awhile ago and while reading it dally/johnny’s dynamic was my favorite and i realized afterwards that it was bc they remind me of kandrew

some of my connections:

like both of johnny/dally have been abused and/or neglected. as a result dally closed himself off, like andrew, and both of them are viewed as violent/aggressive. johnny being more anxious and still wanting his abusers attention/care, like kevin with his anxiety and how he still loved riko despite it all. also reminds me of the quote “He clung to Riko the way a weaker power clings to a stronger, needing some sort of support and stability to rebuild his broken life around, and although he feared Riko’s cruelty he didn’t understand at the time how wrong and unfair it was. It was just life, as he knew it, as he’d know it for the next many years.”

and the scene where dally, who others see as selfish/uncaring towards others, goes into the fire to save johnny. like how protective over kevin andrew is. paired with the quote “johnny was the only thing dally loved” (also reminds me of the “I was the first person who ever looked at Andrew and told him he was worth something.”) and how no one else rlly understands what is up with kandrew

then johnny dies and dally commits suicide. like that one draft where kevin dies and the toll it takes on andrew 💔 also, kevin’s side of the deal being to give andrew a reason to live/something to build his life around, and with kevin dead, andrew is never given that reason

I need so much kandrew angst in the queen's game. Give me Kevin trying to pull away from Andrew, thinking that now their deal is done and Andrew has Neil it's all over. Kevin leaving the dorms and practice without telling Andrew first or where he is going. Kevin suddenly stumbling into their dorm room late at night, with hickeys and way too drunk for Andrew's comfort. Give me Kevin pulling away from Andrew before Andrew can pull away from him. It took Kevin a long time, but he's gotten better at leaving.

Give me Kevin who flinches when Andrew gets near and an Andrew who wants to break something every time it happens. Because Andrew doesn't feel regret, doesn't believe in it, but the broken shards of Kevin's trust are sharper than he'd realized in those early months when he'd been focused on putting Neil together after Baltimore to notice Kevin slipping farther and farther away (almost at the same pace as the fingerprint bruises vanished from his neck).

Right now, okay?" kandrew 😞 [i can’t go a second w/o mentioning them]) - “Kevin stared at him a few seconds longer, then got out of his chair almost fast enough to take the whole table with him. Abby was at his side in a heartbeat, expression pinched with worry. Kevin couldn't seem to manage words, but he gestured for her to follow and started for the door. Abby took a step after him, then hesitated, torn. "Go, Abby, go." Andrew shooed her with both hands. "Bring him back when he's drunk. We've got Neil. Right, Neil?" Neil had used all his words on Kevin, so he just nodded. Abby hurried after Kevin, but she looked across the court toward the Ravens' table.” - abby being the only one to bring up kandrew’s attachment to each other when andrew was being sent to easthaven
