Nicky Hemmick needs to crash out. Like, in a Huge way. Y'all can't tell me that his 'happy ray of sunshine' attitude has actually fooled you. This man has been kicked out of his Christian family home, ostracised by his parents and only allowed to come back in when he brings his cousins, sent to conversion therapy, finally found the love of his life and then immediately went back home to care for two cousins that have no one to take their anger out on but him, tries to make friends with his other teammates but can't because of their issues with his family, almost had a start at finally fixing his relationship with his parents just for his father to INVITE A RAPIST INTO HIS HOME TO HURT THE COUSIN THAT NICKY HAS LAID HIS LIFE DOWN FOR???!?!?

Like are you kidding me. Nicky loves the twinyards unconditionally, and despite the hard time that they give him, they definitely reciprocate those feelings. (Look at Aaron always running to Nicky when he breaks down. Look at Andrew going to jail and getting put on psychotic meds for him) He finally has a family that is willing to stay no matter what, and then his own parents do That to them. Nicky deserves an ancestral crash out actually. On everybody lmfao

the parallel drawn between abby and mary chapter two of the kings men… it kills me

it’s so easy to forget that neil really doesn’t have any sort of guide for what a healthy adult/child relationship is. mary is an abuser of his as well, no matter how well intentioned her actions were.

the hug neil gets from abby, where he directly contrasts it to how mary touched him - that gets me.

“she’d never held him like he was something to be sheltered.”

no adult had ever comforted him, acknowledged him as a child first and foremost. neil is an adult who has never had unconditional love from a parental figure.

oh, and it gets me right in the heart. abby loves her foxes so much. she loves neil so so much

Andrew, over time, starts letting go just a little of that constant tension and hypercontrol in moments when he’s genuinely exhausted. when he just wants to be a person for a while. and in those moments, Neil becomes something like a small fortress for him. It only really happens around people Andrew doesn’t doubt (or at least not as much): Abby, Betsy, and Wymack. when they all gather for dinner or spend part of the holidays at Abby’s house, and Andrew has no real desire to keep up with the conversation, he slips away into the living room. (and yes, Neil follows.) from the doorway, the scene is almost intimate in its quiet: Andrew is sitting on the couch, leaning back easily against Neil’s chest, Neil seated behind him. Neil’s arms drape over his shoulders, sliding down to hold him close at his ribs, while his legs are bent on either side of Andrew, boxing him in—shielding him, as much as possible, from the rest of the world. “We can leave if you want. It’s not too late,” Neil murmurs softly, his face pressed into the curve of Andrew’s neck. “We’ll go back in a minute. Stay a little longer,” Andrew replies, pressing himself more firmly back against him.

from her spot, one that offers the clearest view into the living room, Bee can’t help but notice the way Andrew’s eyes slowly drift shut, how he seems to slip out of the world entirely while Neil murmurs something quietly to him. the way Neil pulls him closer, nudges his nose into the short hair at his nape, then, after a moment’s thought, whispers something else and presses a soft kiss to the crown of his head, resting his cheek there. Betsy doesn’t say anything. none of them do. not about how Andrew changes in Neil’s presence. In their presence. and once again, Betsy keeps it to herself, not wanting to draw attention to them—but the thought lingers, quiet and certain: I’m so glad Andrew found someone he can be at peace with.
