omfg where do i start... i think this part of chapter 2 was so awesome because of the complicity. eloise staring at grace, "you inadvertently made me this way."
“I don’t know who she’s turning me into,” Eloise wails.

LIKE OH MY GOD BRUHHH so eloise leaving grace alive, knowing that it's a liability (<- somewhat. though their classmates at this point don't really trust grace that much so eloise plays it to her advantage but.) is like. well if i get caught and die, YOU will be the one to live with my mistakes. YOU will be complicit in this murder because you were the one who forced me to the edge
and i love how the fic ended with grace and eloise both understanding each other Less. even though they talked, multiple times, and revealed things about themselves, their pasts... in the end, when eloise is executed, they really never understood anything about each other. because the killing game both morphed them into people that they weren't.
(Omg not to make this abt crowsheep) but i just LOVE how this parallels wolfgang and eva in ch1 where they both understood each other TOO well. they saw themselves in eachother TOO much. eva was thinking "i have to kill him before he kills me," and that led to a quickly unraveling spiral where she felt 'forced' to do something. in the same vein, grace and eloise were unraveling, both trying to sabotage each other until the very end. while it felt that wolfgang always knew how eva would act, and eva automatically understood wolfgang's angle as he rallied the class behind him, with eloise and grace here it feels like they never 'got' each other at all, and that was their downfall. they didn't really learn anything abt each other in the end, because i don't think they understood themselves either.
a reason why im so captivated w the idea of grace&eloise parallels also is bc theyre both female athletes... i have so much to say on the matter, especially since golf and fencing r both indiv. sports.. i feel like they must have fought like crazy in their pasts. i think competition in sports is so complicated and it feels close to a type of murder (of yourself and/or your opponent, whatever gets you the Win) which is why i feel like they could be crazy in a killing game. they're used to being levelheaded in stressful situations because they're Ultimate athletes... in the same way that i see wolfgang/eva viewing the killing game as simply a complicated problemsolving exercise i think they would eventually view it as just another competition. IDK HOW IT'D PLAY OUT IN CANON Obviously we have the staff notes but its a bit sparse abt these two so far...

ALSO i really love diana here like soooooooooooo bad... My ultimate chameleon.... i love how grace gives up saying that she's emulating x or y and just saying "Ingrid says" or "wolfgang says" instead. because either diana is getting better at it, or it's trivial and doesn't matter anymore, or grace has just accepted that Yeah it is ingrid or wolfgang or mark or whoever. That's just how it is now
i also think grace's dialogue is SO good. she is kind of severely unilikeable and i love that. the classmates tiptoe around her but also readily listen to her and accept that This is how she is, and i think it's so good.... thank u for the 10 course meal
Been thinking about where I'd want Cassidy's character to go in an au where she isn't the mastermind, and my first choice is one that I think solves two problems at once: Cassidy replaces Ingrid in the victim lineup.
In my vision, it becomes increasingly unignorable over the course of the first few chapters that even since the beginning Cassidy has never really cared whether she or anyone else lives or dies. Every time she witnesses something horrible this gets a little less subtle. I'd say it's less that she drops the mask and more that it becomes more noticeably artificial, to the point where not even Diana Self-Destructive Positivity Venicia is capable of working with her.
Because of all that, her character arc ends up intersecting with Mark's. Mark is very intimately familiar with suicidal ideation, and around the time he comes to the conclusion that, based on Cassidy's behavior, she must want to die, he also realizes that he wants to live. So, he has (in his mind) a very obvious reason to target her. He knows from experience that her reckless disregard makes it easy to get her to walk willingly into what will become her grave.
I think there should be some deliberate ambiguity, though, to both the cast and the audience, as to whether Cassidy would've ever actually killed herself if given a say in the matter, or if Mark is just coping because he doesn't want to come to terms with the idea of having killed someone for no reason, now that he doesn't stand a chance of getting out. Failing to get away with murder reinforces the idea that he's worthless to him and at this point (post trial) he's clinging to any reason he can think of why he shouldn't have to feel bad about killing her.
I don't exactly have a specific cause of death in mind here but there's a vivid image in my head of Cassidy having this incredibly unsettling smile in her BDA. Take from that what you will
im always a huge sucker for female athlete charas esp if they have a complicated relationship w their sport (SMILES AT THE CAMERA!) so i was rlly looking forward 2 seeing any potential parallels btwn these two

also ik they had like 1 interaction in canon where grace was just chewing her tf out for having her blackmail but like Let's be crazy a little bit as a treat
a bit of additional context on wenona's motives for running things in ch2 (link). it feels reminiscent of v3 ch3 to me, where someone is imposing a familiar system in an effort to create order and keep people from killing, but it's also a system that benefits them and gives them power/comfort.
