Born to a single mother, Cassidy came into this world with the cards dealt against her. A teenaged mother unfortunately left on her own in a town she didn't know, hooked on things she never intended to.
By the time she was one, she was shipped down to her grandmother's in Louisiana. But fate would have it that she'd bounce around again. After suffering a stroke, her grandmother was unable to care for her. Not even five years old and the foundations have shaken beneath her.
At the age of three she was placed with the Dhingra family, a foster family that would finally build some stability in her life.
Between the ages of three and Fourteen she lived with the Dhingra family, with visitation by her grandmother.
Before high school, her mother got clean and finally regained custody of her, moving her back up north to Merrock.
However, each summer she'd go down to Louisiana, visit her grandmother and the Dhingras, whom she considered her found family.
She had always been creative, an outlet to help her. And she had always loved to draw and sketch. By the end of high school she knew she'd do it for a living.
Opting to become a tattoo artist, she got an associates degree and then an apprenticeship. Now a successful artist in town, she has even traveled to conventions for her craft.
Her home was Merrock and that's where she set up her life. Now living with a young son in a small trailer not far from her mother, she has become a part of the Lupine Lane gang with some more found family.
Taking in a deep breath before letting it out, she nodded alongside Xander. "Yeah, and wanted to make sure it's bright and flowery too," she smiled and wiped her brow again to make sure the sweat was gone. "Some flowers, and beachy, kind of tying those in together," she smiled and dropped her supplies on the ground. "How are you enjoying things?"
Flowery and beachy. Xander was definitely getting those vibes from the artwork. Plus, bringing the beach in was a nice idea, seeing as this whole event was about saving part of that area. "It's working," he answered. "It's really nice, I'm sure everyone's going to appreciate it." He didn't really know if that was what he meant exactly, but it made sense to him. "Oh. Yeah, it's good," he said. "I like this kind of thing."
Reaching for her water, Cass sipped it before nodding. "That's good, I was hoping people would like it and understand it." Sometimes ones visions didn't always translate, so taking her training as a tattoo artists, she hoped it would help for this. Looking at him, she paused, "you sure about that? You're usually the quiet one and can imagine the crowds can be intense."
"Exactly," she smirked as she readied everything she needed, checking and rechecking, going through her mental checklist like she always would. Laughing out loud, she nodded, "we do," and mirrored what Jordyn had just done with her fingers. Then waving her off, "girl it's all good. Trust me, thoigh if it were anyone else I'd be a little less understanding." Which wasn't exactly true, but she and Jordyn were close so it was all good. Pulling up her latest flash designs, she scrolled to the latest ones and handed her the iPad. "Totally up to you. Could do a couple of tiny ones or just one. It's up to you. I am at your service."
Being a lover of art, it was a surprise that Jo didn't have a arm sleeve of tattoos by now. She appreciated good tattoos and was glad she waited until she was older so she would not have any regrets. Tattoos were premenant and she did not want to get anything lasered off in the new future because she hated the tattoos later in life. "How is the little homie by the way?" She asked as she looked through the options on Cassidy's ipad. She made a mental note of what she liked right off bat. "Don't give me decisions, babe. This is hard." She vibrated her lips. "Uhhh, okay I am debating between these three." She pointed to the small heart comma, the little airplane and the dagger. "Open to letting you be creative though."
She had gotten everything all set up, just had to put out the ink into each little cup she set up. Unless Jordyn didn't want a tattoo with any color, in that case she'd just pour out some black ink. Either way, Cassidy was all set up and ready to go whenever her friend was. At the mention of the little homie, Cass smiled widely, "he's good. A menace and growing like there's no tomorrow. But he's good. Looking forward to the summer which I don't blame him honestly." She laughed as she looked at her iPad, "okay okay," she looked at the designs and thought for a moment. "I could try to combine the three, like a heart with a dagger through it, as a decal on an airplane wing. Just depends on how big or small you wanna go."
“Cassss! This is so cute.” Naomi had knew she was doing sidewalk art. She had to get in on the action because she had time to kill. Perks of over preparing the past few days. “A little nostalgic too. How’s it going over here?” She handed over a fresh water bottle. “For you, just in case.”
"Thank you!" She said with a wide grin, letting out a long deep breath as she stood up and took a step back to admire her work. "I was definitely aiming for a mixture of spring, nostalgia, and like a beachy them," she spoke and gestured about, "like to encapsulate the feel of Merrock as a whole." Rowing up in town there was a certain feel that it's streets brought to her. "Oh my gosh thank you. I needed this more than anything! How's it going with you?"
Dep iin thought and sidewalk paint, she stood up and wiped her brow while taking in a breath. As she added some coloring to the corner of the sidewalk, she saw her friend and neighbor. Giving him a quick wave before finishing, she took a break to take in the bigger picture. "Honestly just something spring like and uplifting," shaking her head, "not really. Just seeing what flows ya know?"
A nod was Xander's immediate response as he took in what she'd painted. He'd never been all that good at artwork on a large scale, but he did enjoy doing smaller projects on the daily. He'd have been lost without his art, honestly. "I understand that," he answered. "I can definitely see the vision there..." He gestured idly toward the painting.

Xander had been standing there watching for a minute or so, taking in what Cassidy was doing with interest. He loved all forms of art, of course he did, so he couldn't help but be curious about what she was doing, a gentle smile on his features. "What's the goal here?" he questioned lightly. "Do you have something you're working from?"
Taking a break from the sidewalk art, Cass made her way through the different booths and event. Her mom was taking care of Carter, so she had the freedom to do whatever she had pleased to. Seeing everyone out and about made her smile and she was excited to get to taste all the foods and drinks, and see all the crafts. "Howdy neighbor," Cassidy replied as she slid on next to Lena, "how are ya enjoying the event?"
"I'm definitely more of a sweet girl than savory when it comes to desserts, but I can do savory if it's like… perfect," she laughed, shrugging both shoulders, "granted, I can't think of a single example off of the top of my head. Maybe something that's salted caramel? But then the caramel is sweet, so that's a good balance." If you could get the best of both worlds, why not? There had to be a good way to make it happen. "Or like, desserts that people make with vegetables? What's up with that?" her nose scrunched, "I guess something like carrot cake or pumpkin bread gets a pass, since they make those taste good, anyway, but… there are some that just shouldn't happen." That was one of the hills that Ashleigh would die on. She watched parents who made their kids healthy birthday cakes, taking away that joy, and realized that it was never going to be her lot in life. Thankfully. "So right in the middle," she nodded her head, "I was that way, too. I had a good group of friends, but it wasn't the whole school, you know?" And that was okay, she had made out pretty well as a teenaged girl just looking to study hard and have a good time. Taking a bit of her gelato, she let it rest on her tongue before swallowing and nodding her head, "I feel like it was a good decision to make the move here."
"See, I can't do a savory dessert," she laughed, "call me weird or old fashioned or whatever but I don't know." She lifted her shoulders, and didn't really have much of an explanation but she had her opinions and that was okay. "Okay salted caramel is good but that's definitely still sweet in my book," she nodded and agreed, not being able to think of any other savory desserts either. Shuddering she laughed again, "don't even get me started! Like those sweet potato brownies or zucchini stuff? No thank you, maybe the zucchini muffins for breakfast. But dessert? No way." She never realized how heated she could get regarding desserts but it was a good kind of heated, more passionate than mad. Nodding, "exactly. And yeah though school itself wasn't exactly my favorite thing. The learning part I mean. But hey I turned out okay and it seems like you did too." smiling before taking a bite of her own, "it's a magical place I'll tell you that."
"Macabre," they said with a loud laugh, "I like it." Cassidy wasn't entirely wrong -- it wasn't really a bad thing to have a sign of life coming from the person next to you, even if that just meant that you were hearing them snore a little bit. Better than nothing. "No, I'm pretty sure that's illegal, right? I don't know if they'd pull you over if they saw it -- they'd have to be looking pretty close -- but why risk it?" Stelly didn't want to get into any legal trouble, no matter what it was. They liked to keep their record relatively blemish-free if they could. "I wouldn't say everything," Stelly reassured her with a soft smile. "You've done a lot of good for yourself, Cass. He just happens to top the list." And there was nothing wrong with that, everyone needed their biggest achievement. "True, although... some jelly aficionados might be really particular about jelly flavors!"
"You should know me by now, I am very dark and twisted, macabre like," she said and made a gesture with her hands like a witch would before bursting into a laugh. "We're both from Louisiana baby, you know that's a macabre state there," she was just teasing but it was true. Though not from NOLA, she was still from close by and there was a certain spookiness to the whole state. Shrugging, "honestly I have no idea but I'm not about to try it and see. I don't need that kind of thing hanging over my head." She didn't want to attempt it or get into any trouble and risk things. Especially not with her mother's history and being a single mother herself. Her smile softened, "thanks. And he does top the list. He's definitely the light of my life I'll tell you that." She grinned and then laughed, "oh for sure. I'm sure the strawberry versus grape jelly warbwill tell you that. Just like the chunky versus smooth peanut butter one too."
“Gotta have balance.” She laughed. Her set schedule was routine at this point which she appreciated. She also enjoyed having a life and making sure she kept up with her friends. “We see each other!” Jo agreed waving two fingers between her eyes and Cass. “I promise I am more prepared, usually.” She also trusted Cassidy knowing that her work was amazing. “Ooooh, show meeeee.” The firefighter sang, kicking her feet back and fourth. “I don’t know if I want a bunch of tiny tats in one sitting for funsies or not.”
"Mhmm," Mandy hummed softly. She tapped on her phone to put on her playlist and then grinned. "Cheers!" she said happily, setting herself down in front of her easel. "Oh, but that is also always exciting," she said. "Did the tooth fairy come to visit?" she asked with a grin. Mandy wet her paintbrush and looked over at her friend again. She nodded slowly. "Yeah, it feels like it's so much, and all at once too. They're not even telling us anything about it except that it's happening. I don't think that's a good idea. Like they asked for our opinion but aren't listening to it either."
As the music started to come through the speakers, Cassidy started to tap her foot to the beat. She put down her glass after clinking it with Mandy's and settled in at her easel. She smiled, "yeah. It was his first and she did. Boy got a whopping five bucks too," she chuckled. "She's earning a better wage then when I was his age," she grinned ay how her baby was growing up. As she picked up the brush, she paused before starting to paint. "Yeah, it's sketch, and like something doesn't feel right to be honest."
"No, but… one of life's many joys, I guess," they said with a laugh, shrugging both shoulders. "But I think I can tolerate it more when someone's in the next room snoring than when you're stuck in a car with someone and can't get away," because then you were going to feel like crawling out of your skin, since it was right there, very close to you. The idea seemed pretty awful. Stelly's smile softened into something more sincere when Cassidy talked about her son, nodding their head with understanding, even if they could never actually understand what it was like to be a parent, to put yourself out there like that. "Exactly. I can't really imagine if we butted heads over the whole thing and couldn't see eye to eye -- I mean, that's one of those differences that I don't really know if relationships can survive."
"Exactly, at least it means they're alive too," she shrugged, always trying to look on the brighter side of things though in most cases she just turned out to be cynical. "Same, and at least you could use earplugs or headphones in those cases. Not when you're driving though," she winced, driving while distracted was not good and if one couldn't hear their surroundings it was even worse. As Stelly smiled, so did Cass as they both spoke about Carter, Cass' pride and joy, "he's one thing I did do right, even if everything else I didn't." She was being a bit self deprecating but in reality her son really was her greatest joy. Nodding again, "I get it and honestly same. It's not like something simple like not liking the same flavor jelly or something."
“See, I get to be your last client and we can do whatever after.” She peeled off her fire department jacket tossing it in the opposite chair. Jo had purposely decided to make sure she was Cass’s last client so they had time to actually hang out. “And I already know it’s real strict at your house so you won’t even be out late.” Jo teased gave a scout’s honor. “Honestly, I don’t even know what I want forreal so we could kind of wing it unless you’ve done new flash tats lately.”
Cassidy grinned as she was setting up her station, cleaning and disinfecting everything including her hands before anything. "See that exactly why we're so close," she quipped at Jordyn and gave her a quick wink before finishing up the first step she always took with a client. As she gathered everything she needed, including the ink and paper towels and other supplies, she added, "by strict you mean my son asking me why I was home so late? Because we both know he's only six but he's definitely going on sixty." She laughed and then clapped her hands together, "I actually do have some flash designs I've been filling around with!" She turned and grabbed her iPad to pull up her most recent sketches.
"Right, and it's basically a sin to have a dessert that doesn't taste good," which was true -- what was the point in that? You didn't want to eat something that didn't make you happy, and something that tasted bad… well, she wasn't going to want that. "I remember being in school and being so excited when there would be a really good looking dessert, only to get it, try it… and find out that it's horrible," she scrunched her face. Granted, that might have just been the fact that they had to eat such healthy foods as school children, and Texas was no different with that, but… still. "High school would be the formative years, that makes sense," she said with a smile, thanking the woman that handed her gelato over and taking hold of the dish with both hands, listening as Cassidy talked about what it was like. "See, that's the vibe I'm getting. The town itself has been great, such good food, nice bars, it's clean, seems safe… but the people have been my favorite part so far."
"A dessert that doesn't tastes good is absolutely a sin, and a waste, plus it better be sweet. I don't want any savory things for dessert," she gestured with a wave before breaking into a grin. That would just defeat the purpose of dessert, a little something sweet after a meal. "Gah same!" She scrunched her nose up and could remember the disappointment even as an adult when you were so excited for dessert for it to turn out tasting horribly. "It was alright, like I wasn't the most popular but I definitely wasn't an outcast either," she was thankful to be somewhere in between and thankful it didn't affect her in a negative way. "Honestly the people here are the best and like I don't mean to try to like talk selling points but it's true."
The last thing that someone wanted to do when tired was get behind the wheel -- although that was what those five hour energy shots were for, as long as you were prepared to deal with the crash that came immediately afterwards and ended up knocking you off your feet. "Unless you like the sound of someone snoring away in the backseat," they said with a laugh, scrunching their nose. It happened every now and then, though. Someone conked out and that was louder than the radio. In those cases, it was better to hope that everyone was sugared up and could handle that little bit of an adventure. "It's a good thing," they assured her with a warm smile, "it's a good thing to have a place for all of that love to go. And to surprise yourself with how much he's changed your life." In the best way possible, of course. "Kinda sorta, yeah," they laughed, nodding their head, "as she goes, so goes my nation, basically."
"I don't think I like the sound of anyone snoring anywhere," she joked back with a soft laugh, though she was guilty of snoring sometimes, especially in the car. But sugar and caffeine were your best friends when it came to a road trip; that and a full tank and a jamming playlist. She softened and smiled at Stelly, "I honestly can't even begin to describe it. Or explain how he has but he surely has." Her heart fluttering with the thought of how much she loved her son. Nodding, "yeah and true. I mean you're each other's worlds so they sort of bleed into one another. Therefore her thoughts and feelings towards it meshes and blends with yours."
