How to convert for HQ yourself

Hey all!

I sometimes take quite some time to convert the new packs, so I added a VERY brief tutorial to the CC creator section of this blog. This is for those who are familiar with sims4studio and wouldn't like to wait. I will continue to provide HQ replacement files until I retire from the community.

I've been playing with it for a couple of months and it's such a game changer.

But sadly, when my sim is sunbathing, the game crashes to desktop after canceling the interaction. I've read somewhere someone said it's probably a HQ mod issue, but couldn't find a fix for it. I really want to keep playing with HQ on):

To investigate whether it is indeed a HQ mod problem, could you try whether the crash also happens without the replacement files in your mods folder?

Sunbathing is part of the EP20 Adventure Awaits, I assume? I will look into potential changes made by EA after we provided HQ mod replacement files.

HQ mod update 16th of nov 2025 (Basegame)

The Base game (BG) HQ replacement files have been updated for game version 1.119.109.1020 DX11.

In addition to the new textures, I attempted to fix the compression artifacts in sims skins again (forehead and chest) and while not entirely gone, they did improve compared to version 2025-07-22 (see below).

General notes:

BG_HQ file names contain the date to allow better tracking of which version you have in your game. An older version is kept on googledrive just in case. Please download the newest version, which goes by 2025-11-16.

WW-users, be aware that WW skintones are separated and are to be placed in an overrides folder. See here: LINK. Any default replacement that would clash with HQ mod is advised to be placed in an overrides folder.

Hi, we appreciate all your hard work!! I wanted to ask about items from the SDX delivery the last couple months and if those can be added as HQ textures as well. I believe it is mostly skin details and newer skintones, thanks!

hey! Unfortunately I will have to re-convert the entire basegame files to include these, hence why I'm waiting for the update on Nov 4th that's supposed to be a bit bigger. I appreciate the notice though!

hi! i was wondering if the HQ converter works for skintones? i have some skintones by lamatisse that aren't HQ compatible and i tried to upscale them using the converter with no sharpening, but it froze saying "DDS Texture 1043 of 1043" and would not progress. do you have any ideas on how i could fix this, or is it just not going to work? thank you!

In my experience, the last step takes the longest and it usually finishes after a while (can also be a long while).

Hello, I'm new and I'm probably doing this wrong, but I cannot find the files for the BS replacement files. I go to google drive but the folder is empty.

Hey there, I am having a problem with the HQ mod. I have all of the replacement files in the mod folder, and I converted my cc to HQ with the converter (which took forever...). When I load my saved game my sims now look completely off. They have nude colors with mostly all color not working. When I go into CAS the cc is also showing a nude texture on it? None of the cc has their normal texture and color, and they basically have the shape of the clothes but have nipples and such... what did i do?

That's a common sign that you still have non-HQ items in your game, likely something that affects all sims (maybe a default replacement?).

First, recheck whether the basegame replacement files were downloaded fullly and try it without CC (you can just rename your mods folder, the game won't recognise it then). That way you can find out whether you set up HQ correctly.

EP19 (Enchanted by Nature)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Wings are now working fine with HQ mod. Using the predefined wings, you can change their colours as well.

However, do NOT use paint mode while HQ mod is on. It will cause your game to crash! Paint mode automatically creates a nonHQ texture and the mismatch in size likely causes the crash. This is a known problem for all paint modes, no fix in sight yet.

In googledrive, you'll find 4 files and you need them all: EP19_HQ, EP19_HQ_eyes, EP19_HQ_skins, EP19_HQ_wings. I separated them for easier maintenance in the long run.

You can replace EP19_HQ_eyes with a fairy eyes default replacement. However, we strongly recommend to use an overrides folder instead (here's a tutorial: LINK)

The skins have been adjusted to work with WW

For future reference: wing textures work like pet/werewolf fur templates and need to be in uncompressed dds format (L8). Gimp can export in that format

I keep getting unhandled exceptions when trying to convert CC using the HQ Texture Converter v2.7. Skintones and skin details seem to convert fine weirdly enough, but most of my recent cc acquisitions convert unsuccessfully. It doesn't matter whether an item is old or new. It all comes back with the same error: destination array is not long enough. I've tried separate installations and forks of the program with no success. Do you think there's any solution to this? I'd rather not convert 100+ items by hand

Hey! I just tried the converter and unfortunately, neither do I experience the same issue nor do I know what can be done about it. In your 2nd ask, you mentioned that you're on windows 11. So far I refused to upgrade, so maybe that's that (?).

Posting for exposure. Any ideas? Any experience from other windows 11 users?
