Taryn bounced a little in her place as Jo spoke to her. She couldn't help but chuckle before she looked down at her friend's dress and then back up. "No way, Jo. First of all, you look absolutely fabulous in your dress. Second of all, I know you know how to move those hips so we could go out there and do a little dancing to pass the time." she grinned pointing to the dance floor. "It's also never too early for drinks. I can't do too much though because I have to hand out the breakfast to-go bags and coffee at the end of this whole thing." she smiled as she started walking them towards the bar. "Will having your first drink on me make you feel better?"
“Thank youuuu so do you.” Jo replied. She was used to being around her fellow smoke eaters at the fancy fundraiser galas so these always made her feel out of place. “Dancing for sure will happen. The dj is doing good.” It seemed to be a mix of everything. “Trust I know my limit so no worries there. I got you. Breakfast and coffee huh? Sold!” Jo usually skipped breakfast but she loved supporting Taryn and loved her food. “Count me in, so what are you having?”

where: big kid prom

“does this beat a firefighter gala of annoying white shirts pretending to like each other or are you reliving your prom right before your eyes?” jo handed her captain over a drink, a half pour to be safe. all this fancy stuff was not in her ministry but she wouldn’t turn down a dance floor moment. “this is my first prom so I hope it’s some what memorable.” the theme was fun, light hearted and it gave her all more reason to annoy theo off shift.

"This is so not my scene." She glanced from her dress to her friend. Jo had never been the prom type - in fact, she missed hers. It was the one thing her mom swore she would regret. She in fact, did not regret it but here she was in a black dress that screamed Wednesday Addams. "Is it too early for drinks?"
"They did, didn't they!?" She exclaimed and gave a nod, knowing fully well how they came in clutch when they were both kids. It was a nice memory to have, despite her childhood marred with some inconsistencies. Nodding as she finished setting up, "busy is good. And I know what you mean. I need to get myself someone. I've got the pet snf the kid, thing is no one wants the woman who has a child," she scoffed and shook her head. "Hmmm, I feel like living with someone else sucks. Unless like you're close with them or in a relationship with them."
“Nobody can handle busy women.” She rolled her eyes. It wasn’t going to be the last time she had to bail on bad dates or they couldnt handle that her job came before most things. Jo knew that men could barely take care of themselves. “That might be your saving grace. You don’t have to answer to anyone.” She commented. Cass had a great point and Jo loved her alone time even if it got lonely. “You right and I don’t have time to play baby sitter you know? It’s exhausting adulting I swear. It’s always something.”
"Let's see how much it helps you," Jayla laughed. She loved good, healthy competition. When Jordyn admitted that she hadn't played skee-ball in a while, it boosted her own confidence. She was excited to see if that worked in her favor. "Let's see! Do your best!"
It had been such a long time since Jordyn indulged in skee ball. She couldn’t tell you the last time she played it. Waiting her turn, she watched Jayla. Jordyn hoped it would be muscle memory like everything else. “Okay, you may just win this one.” She chewed on the corner of her lip. “I do not remember this at all.”

"That's true," they agreed. They might kept on losing but it was for a good cause. They were all for supporting the first responders in town. "All right. Here goes nothing," they said as they picked up a dart and gave a throw. It somehow just glanced the balloon and just hit the board instead. "Ha! Told you," they said, couldn't help laughing. Were they surprised that the balloon didn't pop? Yes. It wasn't even a bad aim. Were they surprised that they failed? Not really.
Jo had high hopes that Dylan would pop least one balloon. She was supportive of everybody being able to win something. Standing off to the side, she waited her turn. “It’s just the first try. It’s okay.” She smiled softly. When it was her turn, she kept her eye trained on the exact balloon she wanted to hit. Sticking out her tongue, she aimed and sent the dart flying hitting two at once. “Now see that was pure luck. If I can do it, so can you.”
"You got it!" Nadine gave a firm nod, already moving her eyes across the mixers present, debating which one of the offers she wanted to showcase at that moment. She had gotten to know Jordyn's taste whenever she showed up, so she moved with an assured manner. "Besides working- I've kind of been brainstorming ideas for my next project - seeing what sticks." With the new menu on her mind, writing had often been a forethought, but lately she was trying to hone it with each customer served as the weeks rolled by. With the drink presented- her take on a blueberry mojito, a hint of lavender as an extra addition. "Tada!" she presented with a flourish.
“Care to share with the rest of the clsss?” She teased with a grin. Jordyn appreciated catching up with people she knew. She felt like it wasn’t that often but she absolutely tried her best. The brunette watched the bartender make her drink as they had small talk. “If you want of course. No pressure.” She reminded. As Nadine showed off the final product, Jo clapped. “It looks so good.” She twirled her straw and took a sip. The lavender was the stand out. “Tastes really good as well. Okay girlie, I see you!”
"That's quite the confidence for someone who's about to get their ass kicked at skee-ball." Okay, ring-toss, not Jayla's best. But was it anyone's, really? She opted for a game she knew she was much better at to go next.
“It’s always good to be confident what can I say?” She grinned. She had all the confidence in the world. Even if she had to fake it until she made it, she was going to come out on top. “I will admit, I am a little rusty on this one so it may go in your favor.”
You know what makes me really, really sad? That some people will never experience the awesomeness of a rotational six CD player inside a car. You know the ones where you could put six in and then pick whatever one you wanted to listen to? Like, who needs an aux cord when you have that? Besides, albums are way more fun to listen to than trying to look down at your phone every three seconds because you want to skip a song.
“I know. I don’t even bother using my Spotify subscription sometimes. I would rather rotate through my favorite albums you know? My dad had one of those and I was obsessed with it. I am sure he got so annoyed that I was never giving him the chance to play the music he liked. What would be your six albums?”
"Oh," she paused, "we don't have to. I don't want to make you uncomfortable or anything." That wasn't who she was and she wanted to make sure Jordyn was okay. "I know they do," she pouted, "I'd say you get used to it but yeah you don't really. And I can't say that soot or smoke is worse than animals to be honest." She winced before nodding, "Okay we can do that. I'll feed them and you can pet them. And I have no idea."
“Now bestie, please be serious.” She looked at her. It took a lot and she meant a lot for Jordyn to feel uncomfortable. She knew that the one person that would never make her feel that way is Tash. “I am all good, I promise.” Maybe it was the fact that she almost got bit by a dog as kid, who knows. “Perfect, I am sure they find you more approachable. I am sure animals can sense that anyway.” She joked, finding the first animal to pet.
"My streak is awful so yeah, I'm sure. Got nothing to lose here," Dylan said with a shrug. They had only won one prize so far and it was a small one. They really had zero expectation about winning any of the games. "Let's go dart throw. The balloons are pretty packed together so I should be able to hit at least one," they briefly paused before giving another shrug followed by a chuckle. "Well, maybe."
“It’s all in good fun.” She promised. She knew that either way, it was a good cause for her fellow first responders. “Darts huh? You’re on!” She grinned, following after them. The balloons were packed together so it was easy to hit the target. “By all means, you go first.” She offered
"It is, and oh trust me I will. Boy is gonna be reading like I did as a kid to get those free pizzas," she chuckled and grinned. She would always be on top of her son's schooling and learning, making sure he did well even if she was still only in the first grade." Trust me, don't I know it. I've had so many clients who can't read or have trouble even with figuring out some things. And honey? You gotta sign a waiver before getting tatted so you better be able to read beforehand." That was certain and she saw it first hand. Nodding, "I think that's perfectly reasonable. Bigger than a quarter but smaller than a watch face." She grinned and started to get ready, changing her gloves after touching her iPad, and then getting things all ready. "They've been good, and how about you?"
“Amen! Those pizzas and prizes came in clutch back in the day.” She remembered those childhood summers fondly. She tried to read as much as possible these days but work took over. “Busy per usual but wonderful. Almost a little lonely. I feel like it’s time to get a pet but I don’t have pet time you know?” Jordyn hated the idea of leaving an animal alone for twenty four hours. “I don’t know if I should just get a roommate at this point or not.” She breathed
"Oh no, please." Aleja turned with a smile to the younger woman. "I think the only games i could win are the ones up to chance or maybe the ring toss, but I don't want to be carrying around a giant glass bottle of soda," she remarked. "Unless there's a game you know you're bad at."
“If I said no, will you hate me?” She grinned. Jordyn was competitive. She loved games, she appreciated playing games. She also loved getting out of her comfort zone. “Ring toss? Oh come on! I know you can do better than that!” She pouted. “For me? Will you try to step outside of your comfort zone? Challenge yourself… I mean your support for us at MFD is appreciated but I know you can do this.”
She was happy to see Jordyn on the other side of the bar, Nadine's shoulders loosening slightly. "Hi, Jo! Glad to see you out tonight," she gave a friendly smile. While she was quite familiar with regulars, she also knew those who came out every once in a while. Nadine always had a knack for remembering the faces and their drink orders, but was glad for the change every now and then. "Absolutely. Tell me, are you more of a fan of out-of-the-ordinary flavors, or the tried-and-true classics?"
“Mmmm… surprise me?” She raised a brow. Jo did her best to support her local businesses and friends. She had been to Mack’s enough to have a favorite bartender or two. Nadine was one of them. Jo knew her limit and she was off the next forty eight hours. “I trust your input so we’ll go with something new if I really have to make a choice.” She leaned against the counter. “How has everything been going with you?”
