                ❝   OW,   ❞  BRUNETTE  HUFFS  under  her  breath,  hand  retreating  to  her  side         where  the  blow  took  place         acting  as  a  barrier  to  ease  the  pain  that  was  slowly  disappearing.  that  was  normal  activity  within  the  area.  though,  she  was  lucky  she  found  a  place  that  gave  her  more  air  room  to  breathe,  it  was  slowly  closing  in.  thankfully,  her  stop  was  soon.  with  an  intake  of  breath,  she’s  ready  to  give  out  the  normal  response  when  situations  like  this  occur;  sounding  rehearsed.  that’s  when  she  looked  up  at  saw  CASS,  a  bright  smile  lighting  up  her  features.   ❝   hey   !   you  know,  if  you  wanted  to  talk,  you  could’ve  pat  my  shoulder.  inflicting  pain  isn’t  the  proper  way  to  go,  cass.   ❞

“well, you know me - always trying to make an impression,” cass joked, halfheartedly. honestly, they were suprised to see valencia here - close encounters on the subway didn’t really sound like her cup of tea. then again, it was difficult to imagine anybody willingly subjecting themselves to this. even cass, prone to lingering in crowds, was beginning to wish they’d forked out for a taxi. “it wasn’t a killing blow, was it?” they questioned, briefly returning her smile. “how’ve you been? i mean, aside from getting attacked by gangly weirdos on the subway?”

gabriel huffed sharply when the elbow collided with his back, whipping his head round to glare at the culprit behind him. he was taking up a fair bit of room himself but trying to show all of his american football stuff into one bag was nearly impossible. he’d ended up holding onto his helmet. “i think you broke a rib or so- hang on a sec. do i know you?” he raised a brow at them, narrowing his eyes a bit. “wait. did we meet at church? didn’t you always sit in the back row?”

“gabriel!” cass exclaimed quietly, deeply relieved to see a familiar face in such an uncomfortable situation. sure, they weren’t exactly the best of friends, but that didn’t mean that cass wasn’t glad that they hadn’t bruised a complete stranger. “yeah. i mean, mostly. sometimes i sit in the middle,” they corrected, “but close enough. what’re you doing here? with -” they craned their neck to look down at the sports equipment that he was clutching, wary of jostling anybody else, “- sports equipment?

Not to sound cynical or anything but 2017 sucked balls,” Noah sighed before rolling their eyes in annoyance. “And people are posting ‘highlights’ of their year all over social media, too, which is such bullshit. Like, you can’t convince me you had so many good things happening to you in one year. It’s so pretentious.”

“You mean there’s nothing nice that happened to you that you’d want to tell people about?” Cass countered, raising an eyebrow. “Not one thing? I mean, yeah - okay, some bad things happened, there was the whole deal with the-election-of-which-we-shall-not-speak, but - really? Nothing?”

     “i would hope that you’re not intentionally trying to harm someone,” selina quipped. she wasn’t hurt at all — if he thought a simple nudge was going to hurt her, he should watch her on the soccer field — that’s where some real elbows come into play. although she never really had to take public transportation, selina supposed that there was something humbling about it. business men shared trains with homeless people, it was a funny contrast to her. “i don’t suppose that anyone in new york hasn’t the concept of respect for other people? that man nearly ran you over.”

“yeah - no. we should be so lucky. pretty sure it’s more of a keep out of my way and i’ll keep out of yours kind of town.” cass sighed, casting the businessman a disappointed look. getting (as anticipated) absolutely no acknowledgement in response, they returned their attention to the girl they’d knocked into, rolling their eyes. “see? hopeless. do you, uh - do you need some more room? i can try needle some space back, if you’d like.”

nikolai stood there wide-eyed, looking like a deer caught in headlights. “um, i - i think i got it.” he slowly stammered, falling quick to his knees to begin scooping up everything and trying to avoid direct eye contact. “sorry for waking you up.” why they were sleeping at a table in public was beyond nikolai, and in his head he thought they sort of had a rude awakening coming eventually. “literally, this would only happen to me…” niko mumbled to himself, the shaking of his nervous hands slowing down the process.

“what? no. you didn’t wake me up,” cass protested, moving their feet out of the way. “no. i’m completely... awake. for sure,” they asserted, deciding after watching the poor guy scramble around for a few moments that not to help would be some kind of cruel, no matter what he’d said. they slid their chair back and ducked under the table, pushing a few far-flung objects in the stranger’s direction as they continued to speak. “don’t sweat it. one time i was in here and the whole base of my bag gave out. notecards everywhere. not much fun.”

Levi, despite the numerous chauffeurs at his disposal at all times, still liked to take the subway–it was diverse, full of culture, and flooded with impossibly INTERESTING conversations, actions, and people. With his headphones in (but nothing playing, like he typically did), Levi hopped on the subway car, clearly unaware of the rush hour times, making a mental note to study subway traffic whenever he found the time to. A dull, but sudden pain shot into the side of his rib; his eyes met the owner of the elbow that had just jabbed him. Removing one of his headphones in an effort of politeness and DECORUM, he offered a small smile. “No worries; can’t really get around this foot traffic much better, can we?” Levi glanced over at the pair’s company in the car, eyeing the businessman and leaning into the other closely. “Maybe you should elbow him, too, y’know, just for good measure,” he joked.

cass shot the stranger a quick smile in return. sure, they’d apologised, but they hadn’t been expecting a response further than a muttered whatever. not that it was a problem - on the contrary, they were more than happy to have somebody to talk to on the ride home for once. “i don’t think i should be selective about who i’m accidentally beating up. that probably makes it a lot worse.” they huffed, lowering their voice as the other got close enough to not necessitate shouting over the background noise. “beside, look at that briefcase - i’ll bet that packs a punch. i’m pretty reluctant to take one of those to the face,” they mused, eyeing the businessman warily.

nikolai-romero:

nikolai was working on school work, the numbers becoming more muddled in his head the longer he spent staring at them. with a quiet sigh, he gathered up the books and papers in his arms instead of stuffing them in the backpack that was on him. this proved to be a mistake when he began walking and tripped, belongings dropping to the floor. 

“oh, fuck me.” nikolai exclaimed, the words slipping out much louder than he intended as he stood there staring dejectedly at the fallen items. warmth and a pink hue spread to his face when he looked up to see if someone heard him and locked eyes. 

the book in front of cass had been interesting for the first few hours, but now the letters were starting to blur together on the page. surely, it wouldn’t be too difficult to just close their eyes, put their head down on the table, and - out of nowhere someone walking past their table swore, not particularly quietly; jolting them out of their daze. sure enough, when they opened their eyes there was a stranger looking back at them awkwardly. still half-asleep, cass let their eyes wander down to the collection of belongings on the floor. “do you need some...help with that?”

of all the trains in the city, apparently this was the one that half of the population had decided to cram into. rush hour in new york was never particularly forgiving, but for cass - being over six feet tall - deciding to take the subway to avoid the rain had been a special kind of bad decision. as they tried to move out of the way of a particularly irate-looking businessman, their elbow collided with the person beside them. “god, sorry, are you okay? i promise that wasn’t intentional.”

“you had to work at christmas?” cass questioned, a sympathetic frown already forming on their face. “in customer service? jeez. that couldn’t have been a thrill. are you okay?” holidays were tiring enough - they couldn’t imagine having to deal with caffeine-deprived customers on top of that.

u asked for this: i first roleplayed at the embarrassing age of 7 on the eclectic under 18s forums of marapets dot com. we had dial up internet. i didnt understand why people kept writing boys with cat ears because i hadnt found urbandictionary yet and didnt know what a furry was. people kept kicking me out of things when i was like ‘dont swear im 7′ bc im a fckign dumbass

hey hi, i’m liv, and i’ll be playing pearl a.k,a my nerd child cass!! all u need to know about me is that i’m a) a dog person  b) a virgo disaster human and c) a real sleepy b who lives for napping ?? more importantly: onto the good good character stuff! 

cass in five points, because i don’t know how to be short and snappy:

1. art history & archaeology major at colombia & worked really hard to get there. not many people know this. not many people know much about cass beyond the superficial, to be honest.

2. ‘vague’ is a really good word to describe them. ‘mild-mannered’ is another

3. very observant in a people-watching kind of way but tends to overlook the bad in people. way too trusting/forgiving for someone who apparently has a talent for hanging around the wrong kind of people (if winding up blackmailed is any judge of character)

4. a bit of a nobody - struggles to make friends and doesn’t really fit in with new york’s ~elite circles, but they hate being alone. they tend to spend a lot of time around crowds as a result, so you can often find them outdoors or loitering in public spaces.

5. & finally i listened to the national + typhoon + keaton henson (unholy miseryman trinity) a Whole Lot while coming up with their bio which explains...uhhh....most things
