"Don't look back... you're not going that way"
joiesamevans:
Oh, Spencer. She’s my best friend. ASL was one of her majors, but we graduated last semester. She’s some big time government interpreter now. That’s awesome tho!
That’s so cool she does that! The world needs more interpreters! I’m learning ASL in depth so I can communicate better with other skaters as a teammate or coach or physician.Â
keegan-fabray:
Oh, okay. That seems interesting. I’d love to attend that as well!
Do you have any dietary restrictions we should know about? We the students are making the food and are trying to make sure we’ve got all bases covered. I remember you said you’re a math major, do you know any languages after English?Â
jaxonmccarthy:
I don’t know when I’ll ever use that knowledge, but it wouldn’t hurt to learn, right?
Well it’s always a good thing to have more than just English in your lexicon so please do come by, we’re providing snacks too!
joiesamevans:
That’d be awesome actually. Spence teaches me stuff here and there, but I’d love to learn some stuff for the holidays for some of the kids at the center.Â
I’m sorry who’s Spence? It’s always great to know ASL if you work with kids, it would be great to have you Sam, each week we’re focusing on a different culture or religion.
keegan-fabray:
That sounds really lovely. What time slots are available?
We’re hosting lunchtime slots and providing some food options to encourage participation. This week we’re focusing on Hindu celebrations.
Over the next week my ASL social sciences class is going to be hosting workshops on winter holidays, so if you’d like to learn how to tell Santa what you want for Christmas, or ask how many candles are on a Menorah join us!
keegan-fabray:
What? Oh! No! My mind didn’t… even begin to go, um… that route… And thank you for the suggestion. I’ll definitely keep that in mind if I find myself in another last-minute situation in the future, but I was actually able to Door Dash a fairly nice-looking cowboy costume.
It’s wonderful to meet you as well. I’m majoring in advanced applied mathematics. And you?
Sorry, I was trying to think of ways ‘bounding’ could be painful, I suppose bounding as in leaping or jumping could be if you’re hurt?Â
Door-dash? Goodness me is Spirt Halloween on Door-Dash now? I’m glad you were able to find something! Are you going to the Carnival?Â
Oh wow advanced applied math sounds really hard! I’m majoring in Sports Science, so I do some math there but nothing like what you must do! I’m also working on a minor in ASL!Â
franniexfabs:
…Well, actually… He’ll be three in January… which is terrifying. But maybe I could sign him up then! It… hasn’t happened before for me since… grade school… so I guess I’ll see what that’s like.Â
No, really? But he’s still so tiny and adorable! I hope the terrible two’s haven’t been two bad! We have three group class sessions throughout the year, one starting january, one in may, and one in september so he’d be a perfect fit if you wanted to come to the trial session in January before you commit to the classes!
franniexfabs:
I have only been ice skating a handful of times, but I would totally love to get Ollie in some tiny skates. He’d be super cute. Awh, I hope so! Oh, yeah, no. I mean, he is. He’s just about to start here.Â
Oh my goodness tiny skates yes that’s adorable, our youngest classes start at age three so he has a while to go yes? They are so cute wobbling around. Well that’s fabulous getting to go to school with your brother! I’m loving being around my siblings.Â
keegan-fabray:
I definitely enjoy Disney, yes. I doubt many people don’t. I’m not… familiar with that term though. It sounds… unpleasant.
Hello. My name’s Keegan. …Um… he/him?
Don’t worry it’s nothing to do with being tied up if that’s what worried you! It uses everyday clothes to recreate the outfits of your favorite Disney characters without being too costume-y so you could use anything in your wardrobe! For example blue jeans with a yellow flannel shirt and a cowboy hat could become Woody, a blue dress and a white cardigan could become Belle.Â
Wonderful to meet you Keegan, What’s your major? If you don’t mind my asking.
keegan-fabray:
Um… hello, everyone…
…If anyone has any last-minute Halloween costume ideas, I would very much appreciate it. I wasn’t… really planning on participating this year until very late…
Are you a fan of Disney, and have you heard of Disney-bounding? It’s a good way to make a costume without having to run and buy something last minute! Hi I’m Cass, by the way, my pronouns are they/them!
franniexfabs:
Oh that’s awesome! I’m sure those kids will love it hopefully just as much as you did! I believe so, yeah, but first Ollie will be helping hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from the Boys and Girls Club that come around to the apartments. Then, maybe we’ll go to the festival with Hunter and my brother, Keegan.
That’s the goal! We’re trying to open up skating to be something everyone can do be it for sport and fitness or just fun! Wonderful! Sam’s my frat-dad and he talked about the kids a lot and they seem like a brilliant group, I’m sure they’ll have some ace costumes for Ollie to enjoy! Sorry I didn’t know you had a brother, does he go to school here too?
franniexfabs:
That sounds like a lot of fun! Maybe when Ollie is a little older, we can sign him up for some skating lessons! That would probably be fun for him and super adorable to watch! What are you going to be for your costume??
Peter Pan! I always did love Disney on Ice and watching him fly around the rink was my favorite part so I’m going to try and bring that joy this weekend! It’s also going to be a fun change from Spooky outfits! Are you and Hunter taking Ollie out?
I’m beyond excited for Halloween on Sunday! My Skating Club is doing open free skating all day for kids with some of our staff passing out candy and others teaching some fun stuff on the ice! We’re also dressing up and I have just put the finishing touches on my costume!Â
nikkolai-prescott:
We’re starting at Joie, then heading to The Sylvester Military Academy, then Dalton, and then the Center! I’m sure some of our kids would love to stop by and skate for a bit before trick-or-treating starts though! It’s a bit last-minute, but I’ll get a list of who’s interested and have Sammie work on some permission slips.
Is it ice skating or roller skating? Also, are there discounted prices on bulk skate rentals? I can guarantee that this will be a first-time experience for almost all of our members, so no one will have skates of their own besides Sammie and I.
Do you have sessions all day on the weekend for kids or is this just a special event for Halloween? Just curious. No pressure we don’t require reservations as we’re doing free skate all day from 10am until 9pm. It’s ice skating! Sorry I got over excited to offer the option there! You and Sam work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, right? Since it’s a registered charity I can just get a copy of your nonprofit registration and I can make sure any families who come in that day that use any of your services or if you want to bring a group we can get them have free skate rental. Do you and Sam skate often?Â
