Powtoon is a great multimodal resource for both students and teachers to use.

Powtoon is a great way to fight any distractions within a class, by grabbing students attention through making learning materials come to life.

Powtoon is great for creating cross curriculum links, as it can be used to integrate both educational and IT resources.

Week Seven Prompt - Two Resources to Help Promote Teachers Personal Knowledge and Skills in Language, Literacy and/or Literature

One of my goals for this trimester is to promote my understanding of how to teach language, literacy and literature to students; in a way that is meaningful to them.

Resource One - Classroom Strategies

Classroom Strategies

This resource provides teachers with ‘effective, research-based classroom strategies to help build and strengthen literacy skills in print awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and writing’ (Reading Rocks).

This resource promotes teachers understanding of what the four skills to language are and how to implement them in a classroom. This resource also provides teachers with strategies and activities to increase their repertoire.

Week Three Prompt - Children’s Literature Resources

Education World is a great online resource that helps teachers find good, quality children’s literature.

This website not only gives teachers access to children’s literature materials, but it also assists students and parents.

For teachers and parents; Education World provides ‘author interviews, book reviews, lesson plans’ and 20 other websites that ‘bring children’s literature to life’ (Education World).

For students; Education World makes learning enjoyable by targeting the interests of students. They provide online books, audio, video and animations resources.

Week Two Prompt - Supporting Students to Remember Something About Writing

Whilst on my previous placement at Bellbrae Primary School, I have taken some photos of the classroom layout as well as an explicit teaching/worked example session.

The purpose of these photographs is to support students in their writing. Within her classroom, the teacher displayed anchor charts for students to refer to. I thought that this was a great idea in that it enabled students to first resolve their problems independently and then refer to their teacher for further assistance.

During her explicit teaching session, the teacher showed students worked examples of how to write letters in their correct formation. I thought that this was a great idea in that it catered for some students that required that visual learning ontop of a verbal explanation.

As a child, I was fascinated by the storybook “Sleeping Beauty”. This was my favourite bedtime story. Whilst my parents were trying to expose me to various storybooks, I often preferred to be read Sleeping Beauty. I would read the book myself as well as watch the, original, animated movie of it. I loved the main character and the idea of princesses. I particularly enjoyed the storyline from beginning to end; reading how characters encountered conflict and how they overcame it.
