Set in stone and cast in steel.
Look who’s back, and just in time for Cast in Steel’s release on Friday! I will probably just focus on A-ha related matters from now on and just ignore the rest of this ridiculous website, but we’ll see how things go.
For now, I’m going to rank the songs from the Cast in Steel album in order of my own personal preference. This list will initially be based on what I have heard from the short one and a half minute segments (aside from the songs which have already been revealed in full), but I may edit this when I hear the entire album upon its release. I’m also including The End of the Affair but not the FotM remixes, as I’m not classing them as new songs.
Overall, I’d say this is a decent A-ha album which isn’t tied to one set style/generation of music like most of the other albums are. Some of the songs are undeniably some of the most impressive A-ha’s ever made. But even though it’s great that there are a variety of influences in this album, it’s very, very apparent that the songs weren’t a cohesive effort. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s something I feel a little bit uneasy about. Either way, I do like pretty much every song on the album, and my first two preferences in particular are amongst my favourite A-ha songs of all time! It was hard to rank the middle selection of songs as there are some which I like equally but for different reasons, but I’ve used my best judgment for now. And the last few songs aren’t ones I dislike, but rather there just because I prefer all of the others!
List starts under the break line!
Quitting Dumblr again.
I’m done with all the negativity here over a complete non-issue. Typical Tumblr making something seem like the scum of the earth when it’s honestly not. It’s nothing to do with the A-ha fandom, so don’t you guys worry. It’s just ticking me off so much and I don’t want to become a super angry or hateful person again as a result of staying on this ridiculous website. I’ll probably come back during the Autumn, when all the hate directed to this one thing should have hopefully died down.
You can still talk to me on Twitter - I’m Chaowzee there.
To my lovely A-ha family here: I’ll miss you guys. To the idiots who just find fault in everything: I won’t miss you at all.
I’ve been tagged again by sidney-98!

Tagging anyone and everyone!
A-Ha fandom 24/7
Reminder that vine has a trend going around that is semi-based in A-Ha
I’ve been tagged by sidney-98 (and possibly others, but I can never tell from mobile notifications!)! Thanks - here goes!
1) Spell your name with song titles. Reset - Charice Heaven Cast - Morten Harket I’ve Been Losing You - A-ha All You Need Is Now - Duran Duran Now My Heart Is Full - Morrissey Never Had No One Ever - The Smiths Any Other World - MIKA
2) Why did you choose your url? Nabbed it as soon as A-ha’s new album was revealed! Before that, my URL was SeeminglyNonstopJuly, another A-ha song which is beautiful and mentions my birthday month.
3) What is your middle name? Amber. Eek! Don’t think it suits me.
4) If you could own a fairytale/fictional pet, what would it be? Jigglypuff. Please make it happen.
5) Favorite color Crimson, but I’m very partial to pink nowadays, too.
6) Favorite Song Oh my. It changes a lot, but Summer Moved On and The Sun Always Shines on T.V. both have massive emotional value to me.
7) Top 3 fandoms? A-ha, Pokémon and generic 80s shenanigans.
8) Why do you enjoy Tumblr? I don’t really know, to be honest... =P Nah, I love the A-ha community on here (so many lovely people!) and it’s been awesome seeing some of the old photos of the boys.
9) Tag people Again, anyone can do this. I give you all permission. Yay!
Take on This!
—-Pickled Herring—-
Every time a reporter comments on how young the lads *still* look—especially Morten—I have to chuckle.
Maybe it’s because the looks on their faces covertly let on to the fact that they are 937% done with hearing that question. Or perhaps it’s from the responses that come after. Whatever it is, I almost want to hear the dreaded observations from the reporters—just to see their reactions.
Mischievous, I know.
I’m sure they’ve heard it all. But to be honest, the interviewers do bring up a valid point. Now, we know that the boys don’t like to address their youthful appearances, but let’s face
it—they really have aged incredibly well.
The sheer fact that, for most of the last decade Morten didn’t look a day over thirty-something, is incredible. And the last five years have been very kind as well. Let’s face it…they all look about fifteen years younger than they actually are. Maybe it’s the water in Norway; perhaps it’s the cold crisp air. Personally, I’d like to think that it’s a combination of fantastic genetics and a healthy lifestyle.
And the fact that they’re just drop-dead gorgeous to begin with.
Or…it could be one of many other hilarious options.
We’ve all heard the rumors.
Morten is a vampire? You do have to admit that most entities of the sanguine variety tend to have youthful appearances. I mean, who wouldn’t? Eternal life? Sleep all day, stay out of the sun. We all know too much sun is bad for you anyway.
Personally, I really don’t like confined spaces, so sleeping in a coffin would be out. And the whole blood drinking thing? That’s a big fat no.
But Morten and his dry sense of humor took it all in stride. When Akira the Don brought it up in a 2009 interview, rather than shoo it off or be offended, our favorite Norwegian took it to another whole dimension.
“You just need access to the blood bank. You don’t have to…you know…”
Clearly he’s thought this through. He isn’t into biting necks. He understands the logistics of a clean blood supply.
Our quick-witted Norwegian lad had once again landed an epic comeback.
Reporters ask what kind of moisturizer they use, whether or not the freezer-like quality of Norway’s climate has anything to do with their youthful appearances throughout the decades.
I think one of my all-time favorites came from a morning talk show chat in 2002. Before I get into the details of what was said—and how Morten reacted—let me first just say that he was SMOKING HOT in this interview. Like, on fire.
//falls down//
Which, I’m sure, lead to the comment from the interviewer—who just happened to be a man.
The session started off with your typical intro by one of the two reporters. She gave your run of the mill intro about A-ha and Take on Me, and how the boys were back with a new album and single. She even mentioned to get in a crack about them being “the best thing to come out of Norway since pickled herring.”
And let me tell you, the female reporter wasted no time in getting into the subject that the lads have said time and time again they’re sick of talking about.
“Didn’t all that ‘sex god’ thing embarrass you?”
Aaaaaand here we go…
Morten’s expression says it all. It’s as if he was thinking, “Oh man, not again.”
“It does now.” He’s quick to point out that you can’t take any of that stuff seriously. I’m sure it’s haunted him his whole career—even life. I mean, he didn’t start being that handsome only when he decided to be a pop star. He’s been dealing with this his entire life.
But you could see from Morten’s expression after the fact that he was dreading the question/remark he knew had to be coming. I just bet he wasn’t expecting it from from a guy…
“You must know that you’re exceptionally good looking.”
I’ll even admit that I was shocked. Usually, it’s the women that are making those observations, most often with flushed cheeks.
Some even fan themselves in Morten’s presence. And he sits there gracefully and accepts the affection.
But his response?
Pure Morten.
“Okay.”
He admits it. He doesn’t try and deny it. He knows he’s a handsome man. His answer is short and sweet.
And then “let’s move on.” He’s a professional question-avoider. Just ask Terry Wogan. He’s obviously a little embarrassed by all the attention paid to his looks and seems just a tad relieved when the male host obliges him and changes the subject.
He’s heard that phrase in one form or another so many times that one might think he’s almost immune to it.
Almost.
But he’s very quick to point out one very important fact.
“…but there’s a difference between us and pickled herring. We *are* fresh.”
And there you have it.
So, I guess it comes down to this secret: vampirism and a good moisturizer.
And maybe a little bit of pickled herring. As long as it’s fresh.
Keep that in mind, people.

Under the Makeup of a comeback
Single: Under the Makeup Artist: A-Ha Album title: Cast In Steel Release date: September 4, 2015 (July 3, 2015) Duration: 3:25 Genre: New Wave Rating: 7/10
The fuss. The drama. The joy. The tears. The happiness. The surprise… whatever you can think of and even more – that’s what the whole A-Ha fandom has felt during the last 6 months. That’s what the Norwegian trio – Morten, Magne and Pål – did to all of their fans.
They’re back, and with all the grace and the glory. What seemed impossible and improbable has become reality. On July 3, A-Ha released their brand new song called ‘Under the Makeup’ as a teaser for their upcoming album Cast In Steel which is set to be released in early September. After the band announced their break up in 2010 with the last gig played in Oslo in December of the same year, followers around the world were left broken-hearted. But as many events were coming into their way (e.g. Ceremony in memory of Utoya victims, St. Olav Order Ceremony, etc.) – it feels like the reunion was bound to happen sooner or later (Thanks heavens that it happened soon-er!!!). And the reunion is not going to happen with the old songs, rather they are going to release new music and with the very first single we can predict the album to become No. 1 in the UK and Norway charts. (Am I setting my hopes up high?..Eh, I doubt that!)
‘Under the Makeup’ is more of a ballad possesing the melancholy and the mystery of the precise moment. It’s a mixture of ‘Summer Moved On’ (Minor Earth Major Sky, 2000) and ‘The Living Daylights’ (Stay On These Roads, 1988) both of which belong to the best works of the band. Melodically the song doesn’t lack much, almost nothing. With the nice dreamy beginning, it escalates into quicker pace hand in hand with the chorus that is precisely sang by Morten Harket who gives the words their meaning and their feeling: “I wanna hold you, like it’s the first time, like you’re still mine.” (His voice causes the chills to run down the spine.) It’s noteworthy how the band decided to rely on the orchestra – giving the song its very own emotion – the one that comes from the cold lands of Scandinavia. That is why the band has been so different from many of their contemporary rivals, they have brought something cold yet still emotionally warm to the music, and to be honest, I doubt that there is going to be a band that will take over this one.
Pål Waaktaar-Savoy, the mind behind most of the band’s lyrics, had done incredible job with the words. Simple but still complex, describing the end of a difficult, troubling but damaged relationship, using the retrospective to draw the picture of the past of how it used to be. Also, there is this hope, for it to be as it used to, but both of them know that there is no chance of the recovery. (Or you can see there your own interpretation…I just let the imagination flow with the song…) The simplicity of his writing with the mixture of Harket’s voice is good old potion.
What it lacks though, is some kind of interaction by Magne Furuholmen, the third man of the pack. His contribution was always there but with this song it’s nowhere to be found. That’s why it doesn’t feel like A-Ha yet, but I see them taking the right road.
New single by A-Ha feels like a marvellous start for the band reunion. Now we only have to wait patiently for September to come to (hopefully) blow our minds away with the new album.
