((I love Iris. She's intelligent and hardworking, but I also regret to inform you that she's a little bit of an airhead. She's gullible and ditzy and so very earnest to the point it's a little sad. She's smart, just not bright.))
((Picturing Iris meeting the other princesses and being like. "Wait y'all were born magic? I had to McGuiver this shit myself." And having to explain who McGuiver is, because nobody here has a functional TV or old people channels.
NGL I feel like Iris would have a lot of imposter syndrome around the others. Rosalina is all magical and warm and loving, Peach is adventurous and a great leader, and Daisy is strong-willed with a deep sense of justice and fairness. Iris isn't necessarily any of those things. She's curious and intelligent, but she's also just a normal girl from a normal place, who got lucky enough to find a warp pipe that gave her a reason to stay alive. She's not really special or extraordinary...she just had the resolve to try. She was needed, and thus stepped in.
Also. The reason she's here is because I believe that any and every series can be improved by the addition of a goth girl. Prove me wrong, I'll wait. If you genuinely think the Mario franchise would be worse off with a cute goth girl, I'd love to hear how.))

((I feel like Iris is gray ace? She almost never experiences sexual attraction. She can appreciate looks and find someone attractive from an aesthetic standpoint, but she doesn't really need or even want that type of intimacy. She's a physical touch person and loves cuddles, kissing, hand holding, dancing together. Yeah ))

Yes, like a zoo animal. Give them a puzzle, a treat, a toy, anything you can think of! Rattle the bars of their cage and give them something to do!
"May I have this dance?" Nobody else was dancing, and if she has to be in a place with loud noises, she's going to have fun with her new friend.
The "princess" gives a curtsy (a bit hard in a knee-length skirt, but she manages) and offers a hand. "You may, your highness!"
It is pretty noisy, but hey, they can probably find a rhythm!
That earns a laugh, as well as a hand extended to Lorelei in joy. "You can just call me Iris...or Snapdragon if you think it sounds better! I'm glad either way."
Public appearances were supposed to be boring, and predictable, but balls? Those were carefully manicured chaos; you could break up three marriages in the course of an evening, but heaven forbid you spill anything on your dress. "I hope nothing crazy happens. I love music, I mean who doesn't? But when it gets loud, you never know what might happen."
"That's the strange thing, isn't it? In many ways, loud noise is the same as silence - you can't trust it to tell you anything."
She wishes she'd brought something nicer for this, but she didn't exactly pack before crashing onto this planet. So she takes the princess's extended hand and pulls her into a dance.
... A dance she already knows the steps for. Huh.
"I'll keep an eye out for any errant wine glasses that might try to stain our reputation. And, you know, our clothes."

Perhaps it was the company; something about this situation feels comfortable, like a dress that fits perfectly despite never having worn it. Something about her new friend, and these steps, felt familiar and almost to the point of muscle memory.
"If worse comes to worse, the spider ladies do an excellent job, and there are spare gowns in my room if you don't mind a lot of black."

Rotten right to the core. Man, folks like that really get him hot under the collar; folks like that used to make fun of him and Mario when they were little kids for no good reason except that they were bigger.

((Iris is definitely Sleeping Beauty coded. The plants, the ruined castle, the Nightmares, even the fact that the original Snapdragon kingdom fell 100 years ago...
She is not fond of Sun, Moon, and Talia. But!! She likes ballet. Having the problems she does with chronic pain and brain fog, she can't be a professional dancer, but she loves watching ballet.))

Iris is sort of permastuck in the late 2000's and early 2010's culturally/temporally. Her whole aesthetic is basically a 2000's deviantART goth girl who watches a lot of anime. But she's also the sweetest goofball you'll ever meet.))
